Saints ready to sign Robert Green

CLOTH EARS

This guy is a giant. Would be a great signing. Should have got the nod ahead of Butland in the England squad.

Whats he like? I'd never heard of him until we were linked.

Edit, just seen his stats 65 clean sheets in 117 games, impressive and still only young. Looks on paper a top signing.

Huge 6ft 7in and 24 years old.

Schooled in the Newcastle academy, had a full season in goal on loan at Norwich and two full seasons on loan at Celtic, all of which he has been the No.1.

Not seen a great deal of him, but what i have seen he's been very solid and a good one to challenge Kelvin immediately.

I agree, he's had some playing experience (unlike Butland), but I'm wondering how playing behind the Celtic defence in SPL can be compared with facing some of the front-line strikers in the Premier League?

Surely sounds a good buy, but not perhaps to replace KD so quickly - unless he loses last season's form quite dramatically !

wasn't a problem for Niemi.

.....are you comparing Niemi with Forster, Turkish?

You said you wondered how playing behind a scottish teams back for can compare with strikers in the Premier league, im saying it didn't seem to be a problem for Niemi. HTH.

Find me a few more examples and I might change my opinion. Unfortuantely, I think it unlikely that there are too many more "Niemis " around, and playing in one of the top sides in Scotland is no real measure against the general standard of the Premier League...is it ?

If indeed we do sign him, I hope you're right, and if there is anyone capable of signing a good keeper for the Prem....it surely must be Nigel Adkins.

Antti Niemi came to Saints aged 30, with around 250 games behind him and had been capped 40+ times for Finland since 10 years before.

He was later described as being one of the best keepers in the Premiership (as it was then called). He was one of the best Saints keepers I ever seen.
