derry Posted 12 June, 2012 Share Posted 12 June, 2012 "absolutely 100%" is redundant; if you really need to stress what you are say 'absolutely' or '100%' would suffice but I would be happy with just 'That is not true'. Similarly, "as it is at this moment in time" is redundant. The more people use phrases such as these the less likely I am to believe a word they are saying. thegaffer Posted 12 June, 2012 Share Posted 12 June, 2012 Hi Dave.Shoulder is still playing up but hoping to get it sorted soon.Green had made up his mind to leave WHU ages ago and it was nothing to do with Sam or WHU he just wanted a change and once he made his mind up there was no way he was going to change it.Malaga was a big possibilty but looks like QPR have done a deal which was one of the three teams mentioned. I dont think we were ever in for him. Adkins has to get a quality G/K in very soon as there arent many around that are available.A centre half I thought would of been top of the list as well.Hi Dave, Sorry about the shoulder. I believe it's all about money. We were never going for him at twice our cap. WHU weren't going to pay either. Decent keeper though.

He would have walked it, worst keeper in the league and Id say most of the backups are better than him too. The word is QPR have foster at 1st choice but hes not sure if he wants to move down south, probably hope WBA match the price and wages. We will go for Green as 2nd choice if we cant get Foster. It has the potential to ruin them. Source of mine told me that one of the main reasons Warnock got the sack was because they were **** scared of relegation, seeing as the gate receipts are so low due to Loftus Road's capacity that they come nowhere even close to covering their Premier League player's wages. If they'd have gone down, they would have been monumentally screwed.

If Robinson is a no go then I reckon Gordon would be worth a punt. I suggest Robinson a while back and a lot of people didn't rate him either. Over the hill, makes too many mistakes, won't want to move south and overrated I believe were some of the reasons. I understand Craig Gordon wouldn't make a good signing either as he is not good enough for Sunderland and injury prone. Rob Green? Forget it, the England number 2 is an average keeper that makes too many mistakes. Butland? too young and inexperienced. It seems TSW considers Davis to be irreplaceable. Armchair Posted 13 June, 2012 Share Posted 13 June, 2012 Also Nige once described Jonno Quick as "unplayable" in training. Maybe he's a star in the making as well? Adkins clearly recognised Jonno quick had limitations in his game but quotes like these are a trademark of Adkins in that they are purposeful in keeping confidence high amongst the players. When it comes to scouting new players Adkins will be far more objective. We have a very good keeper in Davis who deserves to start as no.1 for next season but makes perfect sense to have a young talented keeper to challenge him. Butland is clearly well thought of, young and english which fits the bill!! Time well tell if he fulfills his ability but being part of 'the Southampton way' will give him evey opportunity to do so. saintstr1 Posted 13 June, 2012 Share Posted 13 June, 2012 I dont understand why so many on here use the phrase "He wont move South" , You can drive from the north to the south of England in under 5 hours and fly in less than a hour, Reading some of the Carp on here you would think Southampton was in South America . it was repeatedly said on the J Rod thread that he wanted to stay "Op North", well "J" blew that out of the water, yet still a lot of guys think it is a problem for attracting a keeper. If the deal is right and the keeper likes the set up he will come from anywhere......Rant over , Back on subject, IMO Craig Gordon is as good as any and will not cost a fortune. He has been a bit unlucky with injury last season but he is a cracking keeper at a good age and will still improve yet.
