It has been on the HCDAJFU thread since 5.30 this morning but probably warrants its own.

Plays central or wide, is pace one of his attributes?

Surely they could loan him out to a team playing in Europe next season - probably even the CL if they send him to France, Germany or Holland...

I guess it depends if they want him to get Premier League experience. Would be great as our RM, but just can't see it happening.

Hmm. I'm obviously the only one not to get excited about this. What is the point in taking a loan (no matter how good) unless here is an option to buy?

I would much rather see a Jarvis or Phillips in that role knowing that they are going to stick around and actually have a vested interest in where we finish in the table.

Yes, because Sturridge did really badly for Bolton the season before last...

Come on guys - this ain't gonna happen. I mean which first choice starter would he displace? Surely not Hammond, Schneiderlin, Guly, Lallana, Cork or Chaplow? Surely none of those guys...? (;

Butland

Clyne - Davies - Jos - Fox

De Bruyne - Morgan - Cork - Lallana

Lambert - Rodriguez

just dreaming....

Part of the loan deal is that they can't play against their parent club. Thats a Premier league rule not something agreed between clubs.

well I see your point, but eventually he may want to stay. It still takes a lot to get into the Chelsea side, let alone become a regular (see Jack Cork's case) - and he hasn't turned out too badly.

Don't like having players in the squad who can't play against certain teams. If we take him on loan it should be on condition that he can play against Chelsea otherwise it distorts the competition.

So you'd say no if he can't play Chelsea? Sheesh!

A season long loan? That wouldn't be in line with the plans for the club. If there is an option to buy it will be a different story. Do you really think that NC would accept Saints as a farming club to Chelsea? Our Chairman appears to have much more self confidence and much bigger plans than most contributors on here.

If this turns out to be true in it's simple form I'll be very surprised and will have to re-assess what is going on at SMS.

An outstanding young player is available on loan, in a position which we are short. If there was a chance and we opted against it our scouts deserve to be sacked for not making the recommendation, it's a no-brainer.

Then next season, when we're hopefully a bit more established, we can go out and buy a right winger. If money can be saved this season then I'm all for it.

As much as I'm all for this 'Southampton way' and building our own team, you cannot turn up opportunities like this.

Didn't Man Utd borrow Tevez? Before he signed or did he even sign?

I'm sure that NC will turn up opportunities like that, whilst a number of fans wouldn't. If we are going to be competitive in the PL it will be because we are doing things differently. One of the things we will need is to believe that we are up there to compete. If we get all weak at the knees about a good midfielder who sits in a big clubs , has no experience of playing PL football, but all the same is going to give us the benefit of his experience, then we need to ask ourselves questions both about the club's and our own confidence in the future. There is an echo of the exaggerated expectations of Iago Falque here.

It's all about small steps, and if we're going to turn into this mega club (Which i'm not even going to get into on here) then we'll need the occasional help from a current top 4 club, because they have much better players than we could attract oursevles. That's the whole point.

This isn't anything like Falque really, De Bruyne has been proven at international and CL level for a season already. He's top class and well beyond what we could current attract in terms of a full transfer.

I don't believe you need to worry too much, a good player but no where near the hype being thrown at him. When he signed for Chelsea in January, he was told he was staying in Belguim for the rest of the season, then being loaned else where for the following season, without even a sniff at the Chelsea first team. Magical right foot that likes to cut in from the left side (we'll have to play him alongside Lallana and forget about defending that side), Not so clever if shown down the line or starting on the right, but does have some very good close control. I can see him scoring a couple of wonder goals in the Premier, then just being shepherded into mediocrity there after. I am pretty sure Chelsea would love him to come to us, but I cannot see it making any sense at all unless it is with an option to buy. If we buy J Rod I see very little sense in a loan for Saints and goes directly against everything we are trying to do. What would make sense is having him as an option if the J Rod deal were to fall through.

No it wouldn't at all, seeing as they're both totally different players who play in completely different positions.
