Sorry you could not join in. Cutting your nose off to spite your face.

"Cutting your nose off to spite your face", would indicate that I really wanted to watch and join in, but I dont. I can think of anything worse than watching people harking back to the 1950's .

As for the concert, Paul McCartney, Jools Holland & Stevie Wonder are the only 3 worth watching, and I've seen Paul in the 70's and 90's, so maybe wont even do that. I can see nothing worse than watching second rate washed up has beens like Tom Jones, Annie Lennox, Gary Barlow & Shirley Bassey, together with lightweight pop acts like Kylie, Robbie Williams and JLS?. To make things even worse that bore Cliff Richard will muscle in and no doubt that other long serving Queen, Elton will put in an appearance. ****ing hell, is that the spirit of rock and roll, playing in front of the establishment and a load of middle class people waving flags.

Time for the revolution.............

Some amazing scenes of our Country celebrating its Monarch.

Great to be British, even better to be English.

Get in there Lizzie

Err, you do realise that Liz is descended from Germans and that Phil is Greek, don't you?

Bah humbug..... you and your ilk are gutted.

Long live the Queen

I'm not the slightest bit gutted. If people want to stand around in the rain eating cupcakes and waving flags, while blowing sunshine up the 'arris of some old pensioner who had the extreme good fortune to be born into the house of Windsor and whose only real achievement that is being marked right now is having managed to thus far avoid dying, then that's their prerogative. Personally, I have far more interesting and stimulating things to do with my time.

Sad news about the Duke (my favourite royal) and it just goes to show what a legend he is for standing throughout the pageant. For a man of 90 he is an inspiration.

If you'd been waited on hand and foot and done cluck all for most of your life you'd probably manage the odd bit of standing about at 90+;)

Proud to be British

Lots of happy people celebrating, having fun with friends and family.

Even those who don't like it are able to express a view. Yesterday 1000 people demonstrated against the monarchy. None will be shot or disappear.

Long live the Queen!

Rule Britannia!

I'm a tad confused, the Queen's accession was 6th February 1952, her coronation was 2nd June 1953, so why are we celebrating the 59th anniversary of the coronation? Why were the no flotillas, gigs in The Mall & general bunting hanging back in February, when it was actually the diamond jubilee?

Fits in between the end of the Premier League and the start of the Euro Champs/Olympics.

many people I know (who are not in the forces) are not too bothered for the queen.

BUT they do feel it is great that in our miserable lives we are able and seems acceptable again to party, flag wave and just generally be proud to be British...look back at our great great (and at times, not so great) history. think of the amazing people that come from and who came from these islands.

times like this and celebrations like this that span the globe stop us from being completely tin pot and another belgium or other non/bland nations

obviously, I am very pro monarchy...but those who are not, why can't you just have a little fun, go out and chat to people that you would not normally do and just take a break from our miserable lives?

What is great is that more and more people are now proud to say they are Royalists. I've always been proud to say I am btw.

the royals will be here for all our life times..

also, people go on about how "community" is dead etc...then when there is a reason to re kindle that spirit, people moan

You can be proud to be British without being a monarchist (or royalist). I'm the former & not the latter. My opinion is that the monarchy is outdated & once the Queen goes, it should be ended. I don't want to be doffing my cap & fawning over someone who gets respect purely for an accident of birth.

Monarchy is not condusive with the bland control freakery of Socialists/Communists. Churchill summed them up well..

On leftists:

"They are the most disagreeable of people...Their insincerity? Can you not feel a sense of disgust at the arrogant presumption of superiority of these people? Superiority of intellect! Then, when it comes to practice, down they fall with a wallop not only to the level of ordinary human beings but to a level which is even far below the average."

"These very high intellectual persons who wake up every morning...see what they can find to demolish, to undermine, or cast away."

"Let them quit these gospels of envy, hate, and malice. Let them abandon the utter fallacy, the grotesque, erroneous, fatal blunder of believing that by limiting the enterprise of man, by riveting the shackles of a false equality...they will increase the well-being of the world."

On Communism:

"Bolshevism is not a policy; it is a disease."

On the contrary Serf. The extra long weekend has given me the opportunity to finish landscaping my garden as well as spending some quality time with the family. This republican is pretty happy.

I think you are a little confused as to what i wrote.

On the contrary of what ?

Fool.

Still in the minority though, I do not think people really care about the royals tbh, they're a novelty act nowadays.

I really don't see it

not when beacons etc and this celebration or what ever is being conducted all four corners of the earth.

im not saying everyone is dancing in the streets..but can't really think of any other king/queen/president (other than obama) would get such attention.

I don't really care what Churchill had to say about it. Aside from being a decent military strategist he was actually a crap prime minister who was an alcoholic and who changed parties as often as he changed his socks.

In my experience people that do not join in in our village are chippy and do not want to be part of the community. Sort of people that ring the council when you cockerel wakes them up.

In moy 'xperienz, folk as don' join in in ur villij ends up on the ol' gibbet down by the crozzroads on the moor.

Elsewoyze we brings out the ol' wicker man an' cheerz 'en up with ee.

'appy toymz
