toofarnorth Posted 4 June, 2012 Share Posted 4 June, 2012 Sadly, Saints fans have always liked players that run around at 100mph for 90 mins (MLT being the exception!) rather than those who are quietly effective. Rasiak got a hell of a lot of stick the season he scored 20 or so.
Reggie Dunlop Posted 4 June, 2012 Share Posted 4 June, 2012 Rasiak got a hell of a lot of stick the season he scored 20 or so. And the reason he got the stick was he scored 20 or so in the first half of the season and a big fat diddly squat from there on hence na na na na na na gregorsz rasiak, rasiak - he is ****ing crap

I could be wrong of course but that's how I remember it.

Pointing out that he had a slow start and wasn't performing as well as Tadanari Lee isn't giving him stick. sorry to disagree with you lighthouse but at palace i was ready to deck the mong next to me for the non stop moaning he was giving sharp,i had to move and my son also asked me to back off cos i was ready to lay the idiot out.i cant believe some will boo, give abuse to a player when they are in the red and white of saints, you get behind them and support them

Ŷou see a good or bad black/white player As do I, but as blakey pointed out, would Guly have come in for the stick he's had on here if he'd been light skinned? He is one of our most skilful players, possibly second to Lallana, but the crap he gets from the SMS faithful baffles me. Ok, he doesnt get stuck in and get his leg broken every other game but he is a very accomplished player. I remember some gobby f*ckwit screaming at him through an entire match in kingsland corner, the most printable comment being "you useless black c*nt". I hate to even think it, but if anyone here is convinced that racism has been eradicated here then I can only say I disagree.

IronCitySaint Posted 5 June, 2012 Share Posted 5 June, 2012 As some others have mentioned, Glenn Cockerill got terrible stick in his last year with us. I always remembered him as a great player for us and thought at the time that it was a bit harsh. Remember one game in particular from under the West Stand that everytime he got the ball he got a volley of abuse and you could see the confidence being sapped out of him during that game. Then he scored a brilliant one-on-one goal and hardly could be bothered to celebrate - he must have been so ****ed off. But, he was rubbish that season and ended up at Leyton Orient to prove it.A bit later on Kevin Moore used to get quite a bit of stick but he was a victim of the Branfoot era. Not a bad defender but not up to the standard we had been aiming for before Branfoot arrived.

Crazy Diamond Posted 5 June, 2012 Share Posted 5 June, 2012 (edited) I feel compelled to point out I've never booed a Southampton player. Ever. I'll never do so either. I will however call it as I see it. As for Guly, I can't understand someone who fails to see that the guy isn't very good sometimes. There were all these threads started by holier than thou people with the title of something like 'Lay off Guly' because to them, pointing out that one of their blessed Saints was rubbish on one or two occasions wasn't supporting the team. He had a bad ratio of good to bad games. Simple as. Edited 5 June, 2012 by Crazy Diamond

I'm more p*ssed off that any criticism (sustained or otherwise) of any non-white player will be seen as racist when the reasons for it are based on performance. We have had scapegoats of all races. The frankly lazy and slanderous implications of some individuals that these criticisms are motivated by race strike me as a complete anachronism. The point is that the 'some criticism' is such a tiny percentage it's irrelevant in the context of such a massive group of people. These isolated knuckle draggers are out-liers, statistical anomalies. Stop saying things like, "a white player wouldn't get this kind of abuse." What you actually mean is, "a white player would only get this abuse from 99.9% of the people criticising him".
