Where's your Jubilee Party?

Went to the Royal Wedding party and it was genuinely one of the most mental outdoor events I've ever been too - absolute quality (Youtube Newcombe Road Royal Wedding Party)! This years will be nowhere near as good, I wasn't going to go but now the echo and OB are against it I might be persuaded to attend...

Also how British is your area in terms of flags, bunting, events etc? Botley looks brilliant, council got right behind it and decked the place out in Union flags & bunting. Worth a drive through just to check it out. Loads of events on throughout the weekend (hence my reluctance to schlep into town) including whole main street shut all day Sunday until 5.00pm when it reopens after a scheduled rendition of GSTQ, there's a real community feel to the place with lots of residents and all local businesses getting involved, as it should be.

God save the Queen!

Girl at work is like "what is the jubilee bout anyway is it her birthday?" and I'm like no you idiot it's her wedding anniversary.

Turns out we is both wrong! Who knew?

As unfunny as ever.

I really couldn't be any less interested.

So some old bint is celebrating 60 years of living in obscene luxury at taxpayers' expense, all because her great great great great great (?) grandfather happened to be a bloodthirsty, war-mongering megalomaniac. Whoop-de-doo.

And don't anybody give me "Oh but she's such a wonderful lady", I'm not disputing that. I'm sure she is a warm, loving and humorous person and all that, but so are many people I know and none of them will ever or would want want to be afforded the luxurious lifestyle of the monarchy.

It's high time we rose up out of the dark ages and scrapped the idea of hereditary rule IMO.

ignore the reason..why don't you do it to go out and mingle with people you would not normally...dont people complain there is no community spirit..?

yet, here is an excuse to do so...and people moan

I'll be working over the weekend, bank holidays included, but in honour of our monarch I will be playing the sex pistols at full blast in the van. With the windows open. So if anyones jubilee party is interrupted as a black sprinter drives past, my apologies.

Up in Braishfield there's all sorts of guys/scarecrows dressed up as the queen on people's driveways. Is this a countrywide thing or just a weird village thing?

Looks kinda Children of the Corn. Do they get burned? If so, surely that's anti-royalist?

Went to Newcombe Road last year and it was quality. Got there when there was a couple of hundred people, and there must have been a couple of thousand by the time I left.

Will probably go again this year.

Didn't realise it was on Sunday, what a stupid day to have it, the Carl Cox boat party is on. Balls to that then.

Wake me up when it's all over.

Why are councils wasting tax payers money on this rubbish?

If the Royals want a celebration , they should pay for it out of the millions they've robbed off working people over the years.

You stay at home then the rest of us are out enjoying ourselves with our neighbours and friends.

Things like this make a mockery of the whole system...

Why support any of them? They just happen to be the descendants of warlords born into their position through a fluke of birth.

If you actually watched that you would realise it's much more than a 'fluke of birth'

I have watched it. The system is meant to work through fluke of birth linking royalty back to Dark Age Warlords. However the program highlights an illegitimate link in the chain, rendering the last 500 years of Royalty as a sham. Even if they were all legitimate, it is still a fluke of birth that they were born into a family related to those Dark Age Warlords who killed and plundered their way to power. What is there to celebrate about that?

Dark Age Warlords, who had power over regions of the British Isles both militarily and in civil control through using a non centralised military force. Nothing to do with Skaro at all.

If there hadn't been the break in the family tree in the 15th Century the video link I posted showed then it would be from these Warlords from which the modern Royal Family got their position. Is that anything to be proud of or celebrate? Flukes of birth into a dynasty achieved through oppression and brutality.

You take yourself very seriously. Your grasp of English history is very loose. Go and enjoy yourself you are missing out.

I've already volunteered to work, double time, and on call over 4 night's. I can then use the lieu days I also earn to spend time with my friends and family.

Thank god I will miss the "celebrations".

Anyone would think we were still living in the 1950's.

Dont forget to doff your cap, when Queenie comes on the TV screens.

I'm not sure that there's as much going on as the media would have us think. Been out and about today, covered quite a few of the local villages, and into Cleveleys and Fleetwood - probably no more than 1 in a 100 houses have any sign of bunting or flags, together with a few pubs, but nothing at all in terms of street decoration. Out of what I've seen, there are more St George's flags up for the Euros than Union flags for the Jubilee.

I am not sure where you drove through. Every village I know around us is having a jubille bash of some sort.

Well I am spending the "bank holiday weekend" working. All 4 f*cking days.

I don't give a flying f*ck about those horse-faced toffs or their party, but I am annoyed that I won't get to have a nice relaxing time after finishing my exams.

It's like this where I live. But then I live in a rural Tory area where people tend to be more civilised.

That would be the sort of 'civilisation' that hunts animals for sport and accepts social rank is based on God given heredity ?

The clues are there !

With respect the North West is quite grotty so it's hardly suprising the people aren't making much effort. If they can't make any effort to keep their gardens tidy and have baths they aren't going to show any civic pride now are they?

Well you know full well i'm a staunch supporter of country pursuits. As a townie that's seen a few episodes of escape to the country one wouldn't expect you to understand.
