Micky Posted 1 June, 2012 Share Posted 1 June, 2012 From Scott Gordon trainee in 2001. http://wp.me/p1mFFL-nB Scott is now actually one of my sons teachers, although I haven't actually met him yet, he has chatted about our Southampton connection with my son. Apparently a very nice guy and good teacher too - will carry / wear lots of Saints paraphanlia at the next parent / teacher meeting - won't miss me then...! Crazy Diamond Posted 1 June, 2012 Share Posted 1 June, 2012 Definitely a P.E teacher. His English leaves a lot to be desired - where instead of were, for example. Fantastic idea though, asking an academy player what it was like back then. Look forward to more.
Saint J 77 Posted 1 June, 2012 Share Posted 1 June, 2012 (edited) I'd hope we now will hold on to our more promising players longer now we are back in premier league. Last time we were here we had Lowe who saw our youth players as pounds signs he could turn into for his shareholding buddies. Hopefully part of the Southampton way includes getting these players to show some loyalty to the club and not to jump ship as soon as the big clubs come calling. Gordon Strachan spoke about our youth players who have left on TV during half time at the coventry game. He said the trouble has been they wanted to go, not that Southampton didn't want to keep them. And he is right. The trick will be making this next batch of youth players to want to stay and play for Southampton and not just to see us as a stepping stone to Arsenal or any other of the top 5 premier league teams.
