Danbert Posted 30 May, 2012 Share Posted 30 May, 2012 From the Grauniad: "Meanwhile, Vincent Kompany has reportedly let Barcelona know he has no intention of leaving City any time soon. Of course, Barça would be unlikely to be able to afford him anyway. With Spanish banks on the brink of being bust and therefore disinclined to empty money into the pockets of Real Madrid or Barça, Manchester United fancy their chances of competing with that pair for Bayern Munich's versatile 19-year-old David Alaba. Arsenal could gazump the lot of them, but, as ever, it seems that Arsenal are content to know that they can spend big rather than actually do it. So they'll be hoping that Southampton and West Ham don't start getting serious in their pursuit of the Real Madrid reserve striker Joselu, who is also kind of wanted by Arsène Wenger." pingwing Posted 30 May, 2012 Share Posted 30 May, 2012 Was under the impression Real Madrid offered him another year in the B team to develop because there isn't space in the first team for him yet. A bit like when we offloaded Paul Wotton to give Gobern a space in the first team, but Real cannot do that this season. 5m price tag is because they know he's good, just not displace anyone at Real good just yet, but don't want him to feel stifled as an individual by forcing him to stay in the B team. Pretty reasonable of Real to give him the reasonable choice of what to do with his future like that. Either way if we are in for him it might upset the balance of numbers upfront... How would it upset our 2x strikers?

Not sure that it will and really we only have 2 fit out and out strikers at the moment - Lambert and Sharp. Lee did well in a cameo spell last season but won't be fit for a while and will need time to get that sharpness back. Barnard missed virtually all of last season so using him at PL level for any length of time would be a huge risk, he'll probably get a season's sharpness back under his belt at Millwall or somewhere else NPC on loan. DC has been released and it seems Guly prefers midfield. I was surprised at us seemingly being after 2 strikers but when you look at it like that it makes sense.
