Coming up to the European Championships, I was wondering who was top boys in Europe these days. I know England on their day could destroy anyone with their numbers but that doesn't seem to be the case these days........

England on their day are untouchable but most are now banned and some of the drips that travel with England these days are embarrassing.

Best I've seen is Croatia. The Serbs and the Polish are also rather nawty.

Tarquin & Jerremy will run them ragged.

They weren't the slightest bit bothered about us when I went to Ukraine with England a few years ago.

Yeah that could be interesting, though Donetsk is more Pro-Russian than Pro-Ukranian, so will be interesting to see how bothered the locals are.Yeah I'm doing the 3 group games and then the QF and Final if we make it that far. Got accommodation sorted, staying in Uni halls and all our trains are booked as well. Though where the locals have priced nearly everyone out of travelling, you can get some decent hotels, in decent locations for a decent price. Unfortunately our bookings are non-refundable, oh well.Noel Gallagher is playing in Kiev whilst we're there as well. I'm probably looking forward to that more than the football, ha.

Whoever voted for the Turkeys haven't a clue! They are good on home soil as a club team, but hate each other so much that they would never join up as one, plus they can't leave the country without a good reason, and most Turkeys don't have passports!!

They are just a crazy nation full stop.

Most people I know who went to Turkey in the 80's with England say it's the worst football violence they've ever seen. The game in Izmir was supposed to have been bedlam.

There's a lot of stuff happening in Germany in different leagues currently, but I may lack expertise to give a proper comparison.

Germany is probably one of the safest places to watch football in Europe. It's well policed and the German's can hold their beer. The Ultra scene there is massive at the moment but the violence is quite minimal.

Greece has got to be the most dangerous places to watch football with the violence from the political protests spilling onto the terraces.

I do live in Germany and follow a club for over 20 years now.

There's a problem with violence, e.g. car chases on the Autobahn, Ultra movement becoming more violent, trying to steal scarves and banners from each other and things like that.

The Secretary of the Interior is even publicly demanding removing standing from the stadiums and raising ticket prices.

Does that sound familiar ?

Plus media hyping every outbreak of violence to the maximum.

It's just a question of time - and I think it might be 5-6 years - before Taylor report measures will hit Germany as well.

Sorry if it was too off-topic.

It got a bit lively towards the end of the season, but generally German football is very well behaved. I've done a fair few games over there and they don't even bother with segregation on the concourses. Can imagine they might try and cut down on the use of flares etc, but there is no way they will get rid of terracing unless something really major happens.

Lulz. You are on a special orbit of your own. How out of it do you have to be to tell a German football fan what the situation is in Germany and what the German political position towards sport will be going forward.

That was just a knee-jerk reaction to the pitch invasion in the Dusseldorf v Berlin game - which was a light hearted pitch invasion celebrating promotion, they just went on a few minutes too early. There were women and kids on the pitch and most of them had come from the seating areas. Trying to get on the pitch from the terrace there would be a nightmare with the fence, the drop off from the stand and the netting. They won't remove the standing area, they know they're on to a good thing there and that the crowds would massively drop off with the introduction of all-seater grounds and price increases.

Off course some of the teams have some moody followings like HSV, Dresden and Hansa Rostock but on the whole, most of them are quite tame and more interested in their tifos and their organised marches to the ground.

I saw them in November against Greuther Furth and loved it there. Decent ground, nice terrace and a good atmosphere.

Done a fair bit of Germany and Europe in general and Düsseldorf is the best drinking city I've ever come across. Shame them and Koln bypassed each other or otherwise that would've been a must-do for me next season.

Go to Fortuna - Moenchengladbach instead.

It's fierce rivalry and they haven't played each other in ages.
