stu0x Posted 29 May, 2012 Posted 29 May, 2012 We will be 'linked' by the tabloids, along with Reading and West Ham, with every ageing journeyman, every player from the championship who wants a move, and every relegated player - as these are the three types of players newly promoted clubs are apparently suitable to sign. In the same way every European superstar they've ever heard of will be 'tracked by' United, City, and Chelsea, and every European superstar they've never heard of will be 'on the radar of' Arsenal, Spurs and Liverpool. I will bet my left knacker we don't sign Yakubu.
Saint Fan CaM Posted 29 May, 2012 Posted 29 May, 2012 Bit of a bargain for £1m TBF, but I cannot see this guy fitting in with the 'Southampton way' - not one for the future like Jay Rod.
egg Posted 29 May, 2012 Posted 29 May, 2012 I'm not sure about this. We need a few "been there, done it" players. He's cheap and a decent player. Stranger things have happened.
Papa Shango Posted 29 May, 2012 Posted 29 May, 2012 Might be in the minority on this one, but I'd love for us to sign Yakubu. Proven Premier League goalscorer. Can't see it happening though.
Draino76 Posted 29 May, 2012 Posted 29 May, 2012 West Ham need a new striker because they haven't very many.

I kind of agree I think we need a couple (not loads) of PL experinced players...is Yakuba that player I'm not sure. 1 milion seems a bargain compared to 6.5 for a champ striker who didn't outscore either Rickie or Billy last season though.
Mattio Posted 29 May, 2012 Posted 29 May, 2012 I mentioned him in January and got shot down, I don't want us to sign him but he'd be a decent one to bring off the bench, I mean look at RL, he wasn't exactly young when we signed him

TopGun Posted 29 May, 2012 Posted 29 May, 2012 Not for me. Sends all the wrong signals. I'm sure Adkins is laughing his head off at the Daily Mail.
Guest Dark Sotonic Mills Posted 29 May, 2012 Posted 29 May, 2012 Not for me. Sends all the wrong signals. I'm sure Adkins is laughing his head off at the Daily Mail. As do most people; except the people who believe what they print, such as the seriously disturbed and Stanley/Dune.
This Charming Man Posted 29 May, 2012 Posted 29 May, 2012 Can't see us signing him. Did look good this season though in a very poor Blackburn side. Could imagine Reading being interested, an upgrade on Jason Roberts if you will.
fareham saint phil Posted 29 May, 2012 Posted 29 May, 2012 West Ham need a new striker because they haven't very many. This is true!!, West Spam have first refusal on all strikers FACT!!!!!!!! or just made up!
The9 Posted 29 May, 2012 Posted 29 May, 2012 http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-2151341/Yakubu-leave-Blackburn-Reading-Southampton-West-Ham-interested.html Such a load of gash that we'd be interested in Yakubu.
The9 Posted 29 May, 2012 Posted 29 May, 2012 I mentioned him in January and got shot down, I don't want us to sign him but he'd be a decent one to bring off the bench, I mean look at RL, he wasn't exactly young when we signed him He was 27, which is the upper limit for any player we're likely to buy, by my reckoning. The only exception to that since Adkins took over has been Hooiveld, still only 28 when we signed him - and he was about 3rd choice centre back and the only option left at that point of the season. It would take an absolute superstar to change up our recruitment policy, and even that would be a gamble. Signing hungry young players who don't get pensioned off isn't much of a gamble in comparison.
