Re-Claiming PPI

As I'm actually going to be in the country for more than 5 mins, I've decided I might have a go at re-claiming my PPI. However I don't intend to use one of those companies that you see advertised everywhere.

Has anyone else tried it and did you have any success in doing so?

I claimed back £7,000 from my two loans so it was well worth spending an hour reading up on it from that moneysavingexpert website, then half an hour filling out the forms.

Same. Although I used the very similar CAG Forum. Just amended the various template letters and I got the money back pretty quick. This was about two years ago though.

Apparently now everyone knows about it though it can take a very long time and the paying out companies have become wiser and have started using stalling tactics.

But those stalling tactics can work in your favour. I already mentioned this in the previous thread - my SiL applied and was promised a result within a certain time frame (I think they're obliged to settle within a set period). Well, they didn't and my daughter (his wife), who is a compliance / complaints manager, chased them up. When they eventually coughed up, they paid a significant amount of 'interest'.

A friend of my wife claimed about two grand herself & got paid out in about 4-5 months without any fuss, yet my secretary (who on the face of it is more intelligent than my wifes mate) used an agency to make her claim, it was all approved & 2 years down the line, she is still battling the agency to get her cash.

I'm a lawyer. My firm bought in a bit of this work last year. The claims are a doddle. Don't pay someone, just do it yourself. There's loads of specialist forums out there for guidance etc.
