aintforever Posted 28 May, 2012 Posted 28 May, 2012 /\ a loss of £8m, covered by the prize money for 11th place finish. Leaves them with the £40m TV money plus whatever else they've made from gates, merchandise, sponsorship etx. They predicted a profit for this year and according to your report are in a sound financial position with a "modest" wage bill. As per the below report. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/teams/swansea-city/9013702/Swansea-manager-Brendan-Rodgers-aims-to-convert-long-ball-believers.html So the prize money alone wipes out last years losses without touching the any other income. Meanwhile Saints turnover was around £12m last accounts, Sigurdssons fee alone is more than half that. Are you suggesting we spend half our total turnover on one players transfer fee????!!! Come on dumbass, you need to try harder. They will make a profit because of the prize money but the TV revenue is swallowed up with operating costs and debt - that article is pretty clear. You havn't yet explained how they have got that £40mill in the bank, please do...
Turkish Posted 28 May, 2012 Posted 28 May, 2012 (edited) They will make a profit because of the prize money but the TV revenue is swallowed up with operating costs and debt - that article is pretty clear. You havn't yet explained how they have got that £40mill in the bank, please do... Where does it say the TV revenue is swallowed up by operating costs and debt? It actually says the increased revenues made them meet their liabilities and return a profit. Not something that a lot of premier league clubs have achieved for a long time. It really isn't a difficult concept to grasp dumbass , how old are you?. They earnt £48m minimum more than us last season. Thier bills went up, so did their income. Remember we aren't taking into account owners wealth here. Why do you think we are so much richer despite having earnt at least £48m less? Edited 28 May, 2012 by Turkish
SaintBobby Posted 29 May, 2012 Posted 29 May, 2012 Come on dumbass, let's do this another way. I'm sure it's quite simple for you to explain. Forgetting our owner, Swansea earnt at least £48m more than us last season. Please explain how we can outbid them. It should be easy for you to do. Yes, it's very easy to explain that. Their income was higher, but their expenditure was much higher too. Their anticipated budget over the next few years is lower than Saints, most likely. I'm not sure what you mean by "forgetting our owner". The fact that we can risk big losses (by the look of it) enables us to both (a) gamble and (b) plan over a longer time horizon. Once again, if we can't outbid Swansea (which we can) we are in serious, serious trouble. This doesn't mean we can outbid Spurs, Man Utd, Barcelona etc. Just that we can outbid the two or three smallest teams in the top flight.
SaintBobby Posted 29 May, 2012 Posted 29 May, 2012 Terrible logic. They play in different positions and are hardly similar in style of play. Swansea is a preferable location for Gylfi Sigurdsson. The world is a subjective one, not an objective "general" one. Sigurdsson was never going anywhere else. Rodgers, guarantee of first team football on a regular basis in a team that suits him perfectly and in keeping Rodgers has a bright future and some loyalty to the club who gave him a chance in the Prem. Sure, that may apply to him. That's fine. I get that. Similarly, Kelvin would probably prefer to stay at Saints than move to, say, Fulham. Each case is separate, of course. But, overall, on aggregate, we should be able to outbid and outspend Swansea and attract better players. That doesn't mean we should have bought Sigurdsson. Or that he didn't have some particular attraction to Swansea. Maybe we shouldn't. Maybe he did. But - in total - we are able to spend more money and attract better (new) players than Swansea. Anyone who doesn't get that basic point is just wrong, sorry.
Tamesaint Posted 29 May, 2012 Posted 29 May, 2012 Anyone who doesn't get that basic point is just wrong, sorry. Cue another page and a half of posts from Turkish and his little chum Dell Days boring the pants off everyone and attacking anyone who dares to suggest that Saints are not the a r s e wipes of the Premier League. This time last year Turkish was going on and on about how we were deluded to expect Jack Cork to prefer lil'ol' Southampton to giants of the English game like Burnley. God only knows how much more c r a p is likely to come out of him and his little chum between now and the start of the season.

For the record I never said we can't outbid them. Just that it's incredibly arrogant to assume we can and players will be falling over each other to join us when Swansea have done better than us for the last 4 seasons and already have a year of premier league money.

No, I said it was arrogant of us to expect it, we were only just out of L1. Which it was. It seems we are happy to slag off other fans for being arrogant and deluded yet at the same time applaud anyone who claims we are bigger than Everton, on an unstopabble march to the champions lewgue and players will be desperate to join us over established premier league clubs as ambitious. You can't beat the hypocrisy found on Internet mong boards.
egg Posted 29 May, 2012 Posted 29 May, 2012 Nobody can dispute that we earnt less than Swansea did last year but that we somehow need to compete with them and others in the transfer market, but why thread after thread of drivel about it. Go out and enjoy the sunshine people.

So it's arrogant to suggest that a player would rather sign for Southampton than Swansea! I've heard it all now.
Turkish Posted 29 May, 2012 Posted 29 May, 2012 So it's arrogant to suggest that a player would rather sign for Southampton than Swansea! I've heard it all now. Nathan Dyer preferred them to us. Oh dear dumbass, you really aren't very good at this are you.
Dibden Purlieu Saint Posted 29 May, 2012 Author Posted 29 May, 2012 Nathan Dyer preferred them to us. Oh dear dumbass, you really aren't very good at this are you. They were in a higher division a, had been out on loan for a season to various clubs cos we couldn't afford him and we were in admin. You're assertion that Saints can't hope to compete with Swansea is misguided and frankly idiotic.
Dibden Purlieu Saint Posted 30 May, 2012 Author Posted 30 May, 2012 It's got little to do with Swansea/Soton so much and a lot more to do with having already been at a club for 6 months, having enjoyed it and played well. Lots of players would rather stick with what's working wouldn't they? Be interesting to see how he does. I thought he was good at Reading, but his form in 2012 has been amazing. Not sure he can keep up that standard, if so he'd be one of the best midfielders around. He'll still be very good though. I miss having that sort of midfielder that just shoots from crazy distances every game. We need a partner for Morgan or Cork who can shoot! Surely it would also be about playing for that Manager too. That looks like it could change now.

It was dumbass that arrogantly assumed every player we bid against Swansea for will join us because we richer and the fact we charge more for season tickets proves this. I know if you've reinvented yourself as a mong board hardman recently but at least try and read and understand posts before entering a conversation with a cyber windmill.

I assume that 'if' wasn't meant to be in there. I don't see what I've posted recently as any different to what I've posted in the last 7 years of me posting? :confused
Charlie Wayman Posted 30 May, 2012 Posted 30 May, 2012 How do you work out your pecking order? We're a bigger, richer club with a more illustrious history in a more desirable part of the country. Racist nonsense.
Dibden Purlieu Saint Posted 31 May, 2012 Author Posted 31 May, 2012 It's your av what does it. No Nonsense. He is the Guvnor! Still, don't see how that means I've become a hardman? Better than becoming TDD's gnoshing partner I suppose.
The9 Posted 31 May, 2012 Posted 31 May, 2012 Surely it would also be about playing for that Manager too. That looks like it could change now. I mentioned this on the Jay Rodriguez thread. If Sigurdsson's not signed a contract yet, get back in an wave some money at him, Swansea's manager is going, there's no guarantee they'll play the same style or be as "successful" as they were last season, and as long as Rodgers doesn't whilsk him away to Liverpool there's still a chance. I have this mild obsession with Sigurdsson, it's true, but he does meet our criteria perfectly and has 6 months' experience playing in a side who do things on the pitch in a similar way to us, and have shown what we should aspire to as Prem-joining n00bs (at least for now).
Thedelldays Posted 3 June, 2012 Posted 3 June, 2012 ...and his 'Man United are intetested/I believe the bullsh!t written in The Sun'. We'll see what happens, but as I said, we really should have made an effort to sign this player. http://www.football365.com/news/21554/7782979/Sigurdsson-fee-agreed-Report off to liverpool now it seems thats me still told
farawaysaint Posted 3 June, 2012 Posted 3 June, 2012 off to liverpool now it seems thats me still told Chasing the manager, not the team. I know this thread is a pointless waste of time but you were wrong he agreed a verbal contract with Swansea just leave it and move on.
CB Fry Posted 3 June, 2012 Posted 3 June, 2012 Chasing the manager, not the team. I know this thread is a pointless waste of time but you were wrong he agreed a verbal contract with Swansea just leave it and move on. If he'd agreed a contract with Swansea he'd be a Swansea player. He hasn't. He isn't. He looks like joining a big club just as TDD said he would. How you divs can still say TDD is wrong just beggars belief. But then thats the standard of debate on this forum I guess.

The9 Posted 4 June, 2012 Posted 4 June, 2012 I must have missed the bit where delldays said Liverpool would get Swansea's manager in, because that seems to be the only reason he might end up there. They clearly weren't interested before getting Rodgers in though, as he'd agreed to sign for Swansea. The door opening for Liverpool opens the door to other options too, though admittedly Swansea and Liverpool will now be the frontrunners.
Dalek2003 Posted 4 June, 2012 Posted 4 June, 2012 Don't see why he'd choose us over a side a season ahead where he's already settled. Find the whole 'we should have bid for...' stuff odd given no-one knows our budget, targets or actually who we have bid for or think we can get. It's mainly people bickering over tabloid drivel. Its too early in the summer for us to make signings. The 'Saints way@ is to leave it to the last minute of the transfer window once the season is under way and after a shambolic start ! We don't do 'planning ahead'.
Dibden Purlieu Saint Posted 4 June, 2012 Author Posted 4 June, 2012 off to liverpool now it seems thats me still told Fairplay, I guess all that money you made on Rodgers being the next Liverpool Manager will do you well.
Thedelldays Posted 6 July, 2012 Posted 6 July, 2012 Spurs in the end. so, nothing to do with swansea or the ex manager and money was the factor
