We would still be below Swansea in the pecking order

No matter what you think

And he won't be joining saints. Which was my point

Also. My PM facility does worn

The only reason we would be is because it has been a team he has been at all season. That would be the only reason, we are a bigger side that would be willing to pay bigger wages.

How do you know what wages we would offer

Can you show us please

Cheers

I don't, and you know that, but to think that we wouldn't compete with a side like Swansea is laughable.

You also said he'd be going to Liverpool, Juve, Man Utd or Arsenal, and that he was being linked to all that lot, so frankly I'm surprised he's gone to a team that I would hope we'd be challenging this season. Do you think we'll struggle to compete for players with the likes of Swansea They only finished 11th, 2 points ahead of 14th, they have a strict wage structure, and they average a crowd of 20k. Why shouldn't we compete with them?

If we can't compete with Swansea for transfers, we're in serious trouble.

This may be a one-off and not even a target, but if the strong view of most players is "Swansea is a much better club to play for than Saints", we're screwed.

Serious question - is this totally unknowable?

I mean I can't believe we'd know to the last £, but must be possible to derive what the broad salaries could be. At a broad guess, I'd say we'd pay around £1m pa for a first team player.

Ever thought that we might not want Sigurdsson ?? It's not a case of competing with Swansea really,we have Lallana so really

what would we do with Sigurdsson? Anyway he obviously likes playing for Brendan Rodgers and didn't get on particularly famously with Hoffenheim it would seem. Horses for courses and all that. I'm sure that whatever our targets actually are we'll get our men.

Err, yes....that's why I said "this may be a one-off and not even a target". My point was a general one - I don't believe Swansea is a typically preferable location for a player, TDD seems to.

Terrible logic. They play in different positions and are hardly similar in style of play.

Swansea is a preferable location for Gylfi Sigurdsson. The world is a subjective one, not an objective "general" one. Sigurdsson was never going anywhere else. Rodgers, guarantee of first team football on a regular basis in a team that suits him perfectly and in keeping Rodgers has a bright future and some loyalty to the club who gave him a chance in the Prem.

Forget it. This is SaintsWeb. We want every player that can kick a ball with any conviction - and a failure to sign such a starlet means management and ownership should be sacked.

What I'm trying to say here (and I get your sarcasm) is that the role that Sigurdsson players, left sided offensive midfielder and playmaker,is occupied in our team by Lallana, now if Lallana isn't perceived to be as good, nor as effective as Sigurdsson then perhaps he needs a kick up the backside because if you play both of them you're going to be lopsided..

How do you work out your pecking order?

We're a bigger, richer club with a more illustrious history in a more desirable part of the country.

The average premier league player is on £33k a week, so if want anyone half decent then £1m PA is no where near enough.

How do you know we're richer? They've finished above us for the last 4 seasons plus have a years worth of TV money and premier league prize money in the bank. That alone means their turnover is more than 4 times what ours was last season. Got to love the arrogance of our fans.

Ominous. We played this game last summer and were lucky to get away with it. We need to act decisively in the transfer market and lossen the purse strings or I will be predicting us to finish bottom of the league !

How on earth does that equate to how much the team is worth. The club is worth or weather we were going to sign Eden hazard? Why not, billionaires and all that

But you just don't know that. We should have the financial muscle to outbid Manchester united too.

Even forgetting the fact that we are owned by billionaires.

Swansea will average around 20K, season tickets from £449 to £499, Saints will average around 30K, season tickets from £495 to £780. If we are ambitious as our chairmans says we are we should easily be able to compete with Swansea.

What about the years worth of prem money on the bank?

Should have loads if, according to some. They have stuck to their strict wage structure

Cracking signing for Swansea, very very good player. Can see them establishing themselves in this league as they have a very good nucleus there.

They could probably do with another goal scorer to compliment Graham, but they do have a nifty little team there.

Swansea have got £40m in the bank from this seasons TV money, plus the premier league winnings £8m, plus we haven't sold a single season ticket they have. Please explain based on that how we can outbid them, dumbass.

Well, that's a shame, he'd have been perfect for us, but there was always a good chance he'd stay where he was. He doesn't appear to have signed for any of the top sides though, so you'd have to assume we'd have at least made enquiries - IF we were interested... he did fit the profile though.

Overall, Swansea splashing £6.8m ? Christ, what's the world coming to ? :o

Come on dumbass, let's do this another way. I'm sure it's quite simple for you to explain. Forgetting our owner, Swansea earnt at least £48m more than us last season. Please explain how we can outbid them. It should be easy for you to do.

We will have a bigger turnover than Swansea next season and we have owners who have shown they are willing to invest. It's not rocket science.

But that is not money we have already earnt is it. That's money that will come in the future. Swansea have already banked this seasons money. Are you suggesting we spend money we don't have? It was you that said forget the owners don't forget.

Swansea have f*ck all in the bank, this season's Prem money has just paid for the losses before and this season's wages...

http://www.fcbusiness.co.uk/news/article/newsitem=1614/title=swansea+city+pay+for+premier+league+ambition

"Swansea City’s latest accounts have revealed the true cost to them becoming the first Welsh club in the Premier League.

Securing Premier League football contributed to a loss of £8.2m in Swansea City's financial results for the year ending May 30, 2011.

The accounts released by the club earlier this week reflect the cost of the club's liabilities which arose immediately after the final whistle was blown at Wembley in May when they beat Reading in the play-off final.

They include player and football management bonuses, additional transfer and loan fees, compensation to Football League relegated clubs, plus the loss of the club's share of Wembley gate receipts ceded to the losing play-off finalists.

However, the Board of Directors is confident that the increased profit from the club's first campaign in the Premier League will cancel out those losses and the club will end the financial year at May 31, 2012, in a sound financial position.

The club's operating budgets for 2011-12 are structured for this to happen in order to maintain the club's philosophy of running a financially stable football club.

A statement from the Board of Directors read: "The Board of Directors is pleased to announce that the club completed its third and most successful season in the Championship, gaining promotion to the Premier League and is proudly wearing the mantle of being the first Welsh club to do so.

"While the accounts reveal an overall loss after tax of £8.2m, which was consequently unavoidable after our Wembley win, the large amount of income generated in the Premier League has subsequently enabled these liabilities to be adequately met in the current financial year.

"The accounts for the current financial year ending May 31, 2012, will be adversely affected by an increase in operating costs, particularly payroll, but our resolve is to realise sufficient profit to counter the 2010-11 loss and our operating budgets are structured to make this happen."

Please explain how we can't compete with them....

/\ a loss of £8m, covered by the prize money for 11th place finish. Leaves them with the £40m TV money plus whatever else they've made from gates, merchandise, sponsorship etx.

They predicted a profit for this year and according to your report are in a sound financial position with a "modest" wage bill. As per the below report.

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/teams/swansea-city/9013702/Swansea-manager-Brendan-Rodgers-aims-to-convert-long-ball-believers.html

So the prize money alone wipes out last years losses without touching the any other income.

Meanwhile Saints turnover was around £12m last accounts, Sigurdssons fee alone is more than half that. Are you suggesting we spend half our total turnover on one players transfer fee????!!!

Come on dumbass, you need to try harder.
