If AO-C plays for England

I heard a rumour saying today's England appearance for Oxlade-Chamberlain made us £3.5m. It was from a mate of mine who can occasionally misread information to the point that he tells me something I already know and after about half an hour discussing it I've usually worked out what he must have read and how he must have misinterpreted it to come to that conclusion.

I expect there is a clause which triggers a payment after X number of either sub appearences or Y number of starts for England.

There is bound to be something as there were "add ons" in the deal.

Bet Arsenal didnt expect the England one to come quite so soon :-)

Nice piece on Mail on-line about AOC. especially like the caption under his photo in saints shirt: 'Talent school: Oxlade-Chamberlain is another recruit of SOUTHAMPTON'S FAMOUS ACADEMY'

Nice spot. Here's the article. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/euro2012/article-2150451/Xavi-Andres-Iniesta-showed-Alex-Oxlade-Chamberlain-size-important.html?ito=feeds-newsxml

I see that Alex's brother is the books of PFC's laughingly entitled 'academy'. Anyone know how old he is and if he is any good? Surely if his father has similar ambitions for him as he had for Alex, he will want him to move to us as well?

Mark has upset the apple cart with regards to his relationship to Southampton.

It may be a factor.

Can't imagine that we'd be very keen to take him on considering Mark Chamberlains behaviour whilst AOC was here.

If he was any good they would take him on. Being someone's brother doesn't make you good though.

The skates will try anything in their current situation.

As another said, Marks behaviour during Alex's time here means we probably wont be dealing with him again. Very unprofessional.

Chambo's dad was a pain in the arse but his job was to get the best deal for Alex not SFC, in that respect he did a professional job. using the press to engineer a move is part of an agent's job.

Saints made alot of money out of Chambo, if his brother was any good they would take him on if he wanted to be here. How his agent behaved wouldn't matter.

Given some of Cortese's offers and near-misses with players, and his reported stubbornness in transfer dealings, I'd be quite surprised if "how his agent behaved" wasn't near the top of the reasons for some of our recent non-signings.

Possibly. But I seriously doubt they would turn away a kid with potential because the agent might be a pain in the arse if a big club comes in with a multi-million pound offer for them.

If this is right we can expect to recoup half our Jay Rodriques fee at 1945 hours this evening :-)

Doubt it. Will probably be something like £300K for every start for England (excl friendlies) upto 10 games IMO.

But the basic point remains that we will have got some of the J-Rod fee back by the end of this European Championship, either way...

Doubt it. I am not ITK, but these things are usually payments when a certain number of appearances are reached, not each time he makes an appearance. I would guess it is when he has made 10 competitve appearances. So maybe we will be 30% there by end of this tournament. It is the same with domestic payments of this type, bit like why the Skates could not pay a player after so many appearances because one more game would trigger a payment to his previous club. Look for AOC being withdrawn from an England team when he is about to make his 10th (or whatever it is) appearance.

No, they'd probably advise him to get a new agent.

anyone else see this on the bbc website:

Asked if he had spoken to watching Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger he said: No I haven't, the boss does clever things and he'll always be watching. I've got to try to impress him with every chance I get. It's been a mad year for me, but any young player could learn from what I've done. Two and a half years ago I nearly got released by Southampton, and did not get offered a scholarship never mind a professional contract

not entirely sure that last bit is correct is it?

I saw this interview on BBC this morning and that annoyed me. I'm pretty sure two and a half years ago he was given his debut by Pardew against Huddersfield? Not nearly being released!
