BrokenGusBus Posted 26 May, 2012 Share Posted 26 May, 2012 How much money do you think Nige will get to play with this summer? Most of the media think we won't be reaching to far into that £90 million pound treasure chest.. http://www.goal.com/en-gb/news/2896/premier-league/2012/05/26/3126911/cole-foster-and-cox-the-players-west-brom-wigan-reading? Turkish Posted 26 May, 2012 Share Posted 26 May, 2012 Why do they think West Ham and Reading have a budget of £10m more than us?
Smirking_Saint Posted 26 May, 2012 Share Posted 26 May, 2012 I have geard rumours of 30m, but then I have heard previous rimours of our Lg 1 & ccc wage budget that would somewhat refute that.
craigthesaint Posted 26 May, 2012 Share Posted 26 May, 2012 Why do they think West Ham and Reading have a budget of £10m more than us? Because they are clueless I would say. I cannot believe that Cortese will only sanction Adkins to spend 5m this year and expect us to be competitive in the Premier. Only my view but I believe that our previous record signing figure will be broken on more than one occasion before the first ball is kicked. capitalsaint Posted 26 May, 2012 Share Posted 26 May, 2012 Why would we only spend £5m but indebted West Ham spend £15m? Odd article.
Saint-Armstrong Posted 26 May, 2012 Share Posted 26 May, 2012 From what Wolves are saying we'd be lucky to get Jarvis for £5m. And what about these Hooper and Rodriguez bids? What a nonsensical article. Mind you, it is from Goal.com
Nigel=God-Poyet=Sod Posted 26 May, 2012 Share Posted 26 May, 2012 Another load of tosh. I forget that Goal.com are the first place for transfer news..... Expect nothing less from the sports media biased to all London teams. But, are any of us bothered about what goal.com's second rate, BBC reject reporters think our transfer budget will be? Didn't think so.
MOSaint Posted 26 May, 2012 Share Posted 26 May, 2012 I can't see any PL team spending that little on new players this summer, any that do will probably be met with fan discontent. I wouldn't take that article seriously, it's goal.com for starters.
S-Clarke Posted 26 May, 2012 Share Posted 26 May, 2012 They probably still think we're in financial trouble.
Ewell Posted 26 May, 2012 Share Posted 26 May, 2012 It really is not just about the outlay of a transfer fee for a player there is far more to it than that. There are signing on fees, agent’s fees, buy out clauses and many more costs that we are unlikely to hear about. Also added to that there will have been clauses activated on current staffs contracts which give them pay rises, bonuses and additional payments. Of the 90 million windfall as you put it we will probably outlay 10-20 million in actual transfer fees, but you can rest assured the other 70 million odd will be going to someone else in some manner and we will probably just about break even in our first season back. That is Premier league football and why the players and agents wouldn't have it any other way. I just hope we sign the right players, in Nigel and Nicola I trust to do the right thing by the club. westofshannonsaint Posted 28 May, 2012 Share Posted 28 May, 2012 This is an interesting article about last years promoted teams spending. He continues it here. Out of interest, what are the estimates of our spending for each transfer window since NC arrived?
Black Sea Saint Posted 29 May, 2012 Share Posted 29 May, 2012 Cortese and Co seem to be prudent operators, 5m seems realistic for a club our size to be honest.
buctootim Posted 29 May, 2012 Share Posted 29 May, 2012 The writers are just young, inexperienced freelancers writing for low budget blogs and mags because they are cheap to hire. You cant put any credibility in what Goal write. Better off reading the Mirror or Lancashire telegraph.

Professor Posted 29 May, 2012 Share Posted 29 May, 2012 Eden Hazzard says he's going to Chelsea. Couldn't SFC pop in a spoiler bid of £35m and £250K wages? After all, football is supposed to be played on a level playing field?
S-Clarke Posted 29 May, 2012 Share Posted 29 May, 2012 Cortese and Co seem to be prudent operators, 5m seems realistic for a club our size to be honest. pingwing Posted 29 May, 2012 Share Posted 29 May, 2012 Considering we have been looking to splash 7m on Hooper or Rodriguez we have to assume there's something double or tribble that (20m odd) there to spend, maybe more if we can get the right deals, plus a lot of space in the wage budget to accommodate some new signings. Got a feeling this is one of those seasons where "how much" isn't really of interest but who and how quickly can they integrate into the squad is much more important. Ashby Saint Posted 29 May, 2012 Share Posted 29 May, 2012 We have much more than £5m available to spend, which has been confirmed by Burnley's acceptance of our £7m bid. I agree we probably have more to spend than £5m if we want to. However, the £7m bid for Jay-Rod is probably the top-end figure with all add-ons. Up front figure may be only £5m. I remember we sold Walcott for £12m but only received £6-7m.

What a totally ridiculous article that is. We are after Cole, Foster and Cox? We have a 5m budget compared to at least 15m for the others (including Reading). Further down the article it says we are after Simon Cox of West Brom, Kenwyne Jones from Stoke, Jay Rodriguez of Burnley, Conor McAleny of Everton and Kevin Doyle from Wolves... 1 from 5 ain't bad right? suewhistle Posted 29 May, 2012 Share Posted 29 May, 2012 Just had a look at that article. I know Wigan and Reading have benefited from Premiership income and parachute payments, but to have us down at only £5m to spend is stupid. I know crowd numbers won't be as important as before but we have much healthier attendance figures and aren't paying off debt. I suppose Wet sham will be as eager to stay at the top next season as they were to get promoted, but that's purely survival instinct for them at the moment, given their debt situation. Up front figure may be only £5m. I remember we sold Walcott for £12m but only received £6-7m. We only received the lower figure because we went back and renegotiated the figure downwards in order to get more money sooner when we were desperate and in admin., it's hardly a good example for "increments don't always produce the full figure", because Walcott is still racking up England caps, has scored an international hat-trick and will probably add to his international goals tally at some point too - short of a clause for more money when England win a major tournament, we'd have probably got the lot for Theo, had we not decided to cash in a lower amount. The9 Posted 29 May, 2012 Share Posted 29 May, 2012 It doesn't even matter if we spend nothing, provided the frees we get in are Prem quality players, they'll be paid appropriately, but no-one ever seems to talk about the wages, just the fee. £20k a week is about a million a year, so for a 4 year deal there's another £4m in expenditure immediately... yet apparently that's not worth considering. TopGun Posted 29 May, 2012 Share Posted 29 May, 2012 The total transfer money available will be dependent on the contracts agreed with the first couple of signings. If Rodrigez agrees personal terms that substantially reduces his salary if Saints are relegated this season then that allows more flexibility with the current transfer budget which could be balanced by parachute payments. david in sweden Posted 30 May, 2012 Share Posted 30 May, 2012 the " so-called " budget clearly means money to acquire and pay someone for a contracted period, and depends on the players status at the time. JayRod being under contract to Burnley, and being "valued" by potential buyers / and his club at £7 million, or whatever figure is finally agreed - will cost is a lot over 4 years. But we are sure to sign others who are OOC / Bosman / free transfer players/ with much less initial cost and probably lower salary than Jay Rod will demand. In the end Cortese (who surely understands financial issues as well as any League Chairman) will make available as much as he thinks necessary - (and I don't expect him to confide that info. to the Echo). Though he surely has a bottom line and he won't overstep that....except in extreme circumstances.
