Half time pint

I haven't even tried to get a pint since Walsall at home at the end of the season before last and that was only because someone we were with went down 10 minutes before the end of the half. Unless you are prepared to miss a big chunk of the football then you have no chance of getting a beer and drinking it before the 2nd half starts. I usually get one at away games though, so shows how crap the current system is.

Is it run by the ticket office? There are many similarities.

Surely something has to change. I know there are some quite strong views on here about 'why do u NEED to drink at a footy match' and 'people who miss 10mins of the half to get a pint are idiots' etc, but let's face it - beer and football is a sublime combination! I don't always have a pint in the ground, but on days like the promotion day it was so much more of a buzz having one at half time. The queues are utterly appalling and the strangest thing about it is they must be losing so much money by not being able to cater for the masses. The only easy thing I can think of is to employ people to walk around selling bottles out of coolers, but that's no long term fix.

I never try it, just going down to the concourse to have a p_iss at half time is annoying enough.

Let alone waiting in the never-ending queue to get a pint, just don't think its worth missing 10/15 minutes of the match for a pint to be honest.

There is a rumour that the smart card season tickets will also be used to pay for food and drink as part of a payment and loyalty scheme, but it seems likely that won't be the same as the ST cards because not all match attendees will be ST holders, but they'd WANT everyone to be on the same system.

This has to be our priority this summer. It's a disgrace how long it takes to get food and drink inside St Mary's. We're paying premier league prices now so want premier league service and premier league refreshments.

It would just mean a large moving queue following the vendor instead of a large static one standing at the tills.

When I've seen it, say at the Hammersmith Apollo, its not the vendor, its loads of them. You can get a pint anywhere in the venue within 60 seconds, they're all over the place.

That said, the next problem would be the extra queues for the toilets. Thats a whole new can of worms.

They have them at Anfield. I was there for a match a short while back and bought a pint from a guy with a rucksack on his back. Strangely there wasn't much of a crowd around him. I don't know how many they employ.

It's ridiculous whenever there's more than an average turn out in the NPC so in the PL it's going to be stupid, I swear they only employ idiots at the bars... All they need is correct change only bars & bottle bars scattered around, simples!

The beer is p**s anyway. Why don't they get some decent ale for example. Help the local community by selling micro brewery beers. It's not just about getting a beer at half time it's also getting people in before the ko to have a few beers and a pie. I don't live in southampton any more so only get to a few games. If the beer was good in the stadium I would love to get there earlier and have a drink. One last moan, why are the tv's so small? I have a bigger one in the kitchen. £300 from Tesco's.

Can't see why they don't introduce the multi-glass pourers, like Wembley. They also know they're going to sell 'x' hundred pints, so why don't they pre-pour 20 at each station five minutes before half-time. Same with the tea and coffee. Why do they have you queue up and have a runner to get your order when you ask? Tea and coffee are cheap, they make it hot enough to take the roof off the top of your mouth anyway, so again they could pre-pour.

Once punters realise they can get a drink quickly (see Blakey's post above), then they'll sell more and make more money. Not difficult to understand, surely?

Exactly, as much as to us its all about the beer, to them its all about the money.

Bloody good idea that , pre-book a half-time beer before the match and incur a £3 booking fee.

But only if you have been to 5 away games or have a mate who is also a season ticket holder, then you can put in an application to the ballot for a pint but must pay for it in person at least 7 days before drinking it.

Totally agree. Don't want to start an ale Vs lager debate but that would be so good for the local area and surely money wise would make sense for both party's.

As for the TV's, how bloody annoying is that! I have 20/20 vision but can barely see the scores thanks to the saintstv ad taking up a third of the screen! seriously WHO doesn't realise how crap that is?!

The vendors won't be able to sell alcohol anywhere other than the concourse as it's against regulations, so people would end up clustering around them downstairs, probably making it more crowded.

The best I have seen for this sort of thing is to do the selling in the queues or another position, the serving at the counter. You then get a ticket with full description and a number. When your number is displayed you just go and collect. No corrections or changes, just a refund if unable to supply.

It would not surprise me if the new software and hardware installed cannot help out. Pre-charged season ticket cards, member or swipe cards would allow all sorts benefits for addressing this issue.

Oh like you knew!

Whatever you say. I'm currently drinking a very nice Alberino (that's Spanish white). We regularly order cases of wine from a vineyard in Italy called Fattoria la Vialla, we've ordered the Sangiovese (that's italian red) and the nuberosa regularly. Just saying like, because obviously I'd have no idea what a chateaux Lafleur was, if you weren't around to tell me.

The internets a great thing isn't it.

If you are a wine fan & I personally only drink red you can't go wrong with most wines from Chile

And your right, it is a good idea I'm around to help you out xx

Of course, yes. I don't know what I'm talking about and just did a google search.

I'm also a fan of New Zeland Malborough whites. Tend to drink reds in the winter and whites in the summer.

Usually I agree on Chilean but had a dodgy one last night Valle Central Shiraz carbent Sauvignon. Or at least that's what google told me.

Especially with the half time fag-habits stinking the place out and blocking cubicles.

That's basically what I said, (plus the fairly obvious legal bit which I assumed everyone knew as it's been the case since the mid-80s) except for some reason the respondent decided to assume I meant there would only be one vendor with a long snaking queue, as opposed to numerous ones stuffing up the concourses.

And also why not have tokens that you can pre buy anytime instead of cash. So frustrating when the guy in front says sorry m8 i only got a twenty quid note and the seller is running about trying to find change !

So we should spend thousands of pounds a season on additional staff to be token sellers and the tokens themselves all because you get a bit annoyed waiting for your change?

Some premium lagers wouldn't go amiss at SMS.

Would love to see some Sol/Corona/Heineken sold in bottles/on tap.

Also think they could do with a queue system like in banks (where the say 'Till number 6 please' etc. or have individual queue lines made up for each server which would speed things up too I think.
