Special K Posted 23 May, 2012 Posted 23 May, 2012 Anyone organising or attending one? Looks like there will be over 10,000 organised http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/the_queens_diamond_jubilee/9282611/Queens-Diamond-Jubilee-take-to-the-streets-its-party-time.html We've got one in our street and it looks like there will be over 120 people attending. Should be good fun, with a mixture of games, food, music and i daresay, a little bit of booze.
badgerx16 Posted 23 May, 2012 Posted 23 May, 2012 I'm hoping for a fine day so I can go for a long bike ride and miss the whole darn thing, just like I did last year with the royal wedding. Humbug !!!

badgerx16 Posted 23 May, 2012 Posted 23 May, 2012 (edited) Effort to miss a party? I doubt many give a toss about the actual event, it's just (hopefully) a couple of days off in the sun getting drunk with mates. Who wouldn't want that? Drink and slag off the monarchy if needed. Better still, drink and completely ignore them. I wouldn't dream of celebrating some rich family's bizarre birthright to power, but I'm happy to use any excuse for fun. Much like Christmas. What if you don't drink ? Anyhow, it will be nigh on impossible to avoid - there is bound to be all day 'live' coverage on the TV and radio, with plenty of vox-pops with flag waving folk in union flag decorated plastic party hats, and the newspapers will be bulging 'souvenir' editions. Sorry, I didnt make my point clear. I dont mind the royals at all, or the Jubilee - it's the media crap that is going on around it I cant be bothered with, and so to avoid 24 hours of crap TV I will be getting on my bike and getting out for the day. I family BBQ is planned for the long weekend, but I refuse to watch TV saturation coverage.
Tokyo-Saint Posted 23 May, 2012 Posted 23 May, 2012 This thread has been active for 4 hours now and Dune hasn't replied yet. The Queen and flag waving has been mentioned but not a sniff yet. He is either dead or on a march. This is very worrying, can someone please check please?
JackanorySFC Posted 23 May, 2012 Posted 23 May, 2012 Botley are having a whole weekend of Jubilee related stuff, including shutting the high street for a street party. Really looking forward to it and all the pubs/ shops/ businesses getting involved in one way or another. Botley, proud to be British.
badgerx16 Posted 23 May, 2012 Posted 23 May, 2012 Botley, proud to be British. You can be proud to be British and prefer to not celebrate the jubilee.

All in the name of celebration of course. Celebrating another bank holiday that is.
trousers Posted 23 May, 2012 Posted 23 May, 2012 Avoid all the TV with a giant drink up in the street with your neighbours. All in the name of celebration of course. Celebrating another bank holiday that is. Apart from all the republicans who will obviously still go into work out of principle and hypocrisy avoidance...
badgerx16 Posted 23 May, 2012 Posted 23 May, 2012 Apart from all the republicans who will obviously still go into work out of principle and hypocrisy avoidance... Do non-Christians all go to work on Christmas Day, Good Friday, or Easter Monday ? Do arch-capitalists all do the same on May Day ?
trousers Posted 23 May, 2012 Posted 23 May, 2012 Do non-Christians all go to work on Christmas Day, Good Friday, or Easter Monday ? Do arch-capitalists all do the same on May Day ? Wrong + wrong = right?
trousers Posted 23 May, 2012 Posted 23 May, 2012 P.s. 'May Day' was celebrated before being hijacked by socialists as was 'Christmas' before the Christians got hold of it. I'll give you Easter though.
badgerx16 Posted 23 May, 2012 Posted 23 May, 2012 Surprised none of the Daily mail readers haven't posted a link to this, ( or did I miss it ) : "The Queen's Jubilee Bank Holiday could keep Britain in recession" http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2145710/Jubilee-Bank-Holiday-Britain-recession-warns-Mervyn-King.html Damned stupid Nu-Labour idea undermining Osborne's economic recovery plan.
landford.saint Posted 23 May, 2012 Posted 23 May, 2012 Apart from all the republicans who will obviously still go into work out of principle and hypocrisy avoidance... I'm a Republican and I'm working.
Minsk Posted 23 May, 2012 Posted 23 May, 2012 P.s. 'May Day' was celebrated before being hijacked by socialists as was 'Christmas' before the Christians got hold of it. I'll give you Easter though. Easter was an old Saxon festival (to the Goddess - Eostre) before Cristianity came along. As for Jubilee celebrations..... obviously no street parties here, but us ex-pats, the Embassy staff and selected guests will have a bit of a bash (p!ss-up).
