VectisSaint Posted 22 May, 2012 Posted 22 May, 2012 Apparently he is running the lympich torch relay in swindon tomorrow, so is presumably planning to link up with De Canio next season. I will try to trip him up tomorrow as he runs past and see if I can get a scoop (he will presumably dive and roll around for a while first but I will stick by my task).
hamster Posted 22 May, 2012 Posted 22 May, 2012 Scored some great goals v saints. Makes our job of taking the title next year a bit easier. Adam's stock will increase at this news. Amongst others.

Thedelldays Posted 22 May, 2012 Posted 22 May, 2012 "Guingamp were looking in the region of £2.5 million for him, but Southampton were only willing to pay £1.5 million." HAHA you got to love the old southampton way...eh
Window Cleaner Posted 22 May, 2012 Posted 22 May, 2012 "Guingamp were looking in the region of £2.5 million for him, but Southampton were only willing to pay £1.5 million." And yet we paid nigh on 4 million for that dork from Ecuador and his cousin.

Thedelldays Posted 22 May, 2012 Posted 22 May, 2012 it was clear, every single person at the club said we HAD to sign him...for £2.5m...we said, no thanks LOL
Wes Tender Posted 22 May, 2012 Posted 22 May, 2012 What a **** Rupert Lowe was!! Well, you just know that the Lowe attitude would have been that he would have earned far less in his own country, so he ought to be grateful to come to us. Lowe would take him out clay pigeon shooting to build up team spirit. How many clubs were offering that?
buctootim Posted 22 May, 2012 Posted 22 May, 2012 (edited) Many of you now berating Lowe for his 'stupidity' in not signing a French second division player with a good but not outstanding scoring record for £2.5m 10 years ago would have used the same stick to beat him with if he had signed and flopped. Nothing worse than hypocrites with hindsight imo. Edited 22 May, 2012 by buctootim

I bet Lowe thought he was such a good businessman when he turned Drogba down. Duck off Lowe!

Nothing worse than hypocrites with hindsight imo. That is true, but hindsight has given us the perfect opportunity to berate him nonetheless. Even you admitted his stupidity. Did good for us by building St Mary's and building up our academy and we are all grateful for that, but he didn't really look too far into the future in terms of financial security, did he.

Would it have made it easier to read if I had put the 'stupid' in inverted commas? So he was stupid for being a tightwad with Drogba and also culpable for not looking into the future in terms of financial security...... right o

Hate to be a pedant but Drogba has never scored against us. Time for Torres to step up now, he's got some big boots to fill.
Matthew Le Tissier Posted 22 May, 2012 Posted 22 May, 2012 Billy Sharp is better imho This has made my day hahahaha
Legod Third Coming Posted 22 May, 2012 Posted 22 May, 2012 So we could have sold him to Chelsea for £24m in 2004 and staved off administration - well done Rupert, as graves go you did a fine job with the shovel...

Nothing worse than hypocrites with hindsight imo. Fans rarely berate a Chairman for showing ambition - they recognise he can't dictate whether the player is any good. His job is to employe people (scouts and coaches) to tell him this... And while our scouts often did, Rupert had this crazy idea that Lloyd James would grow into the role...

But you have no idea exactly what the scouts said, how much money Drogba wanted in wages, how much cash we had to spend - or indeed what Lowe thought of Lloyd James. Its facile to try and re-interpret with the benefit of hindsight decisions made 10 years ago. Yes Drogba turned out to be a missed opportunity. Bale, Walcott and Ox Chamb were opportunities which were taken. Some you win some you lose. Edited 22 May, 2012 by buctootim

buctootim Posted 22 May, 2012 Posted 22 May, 2012 (edited) Yawn... Must be tough to cling on to regime that bankrupted us with incompetence and not join in the fun now we actually have a future... Not clinging on to anything. Clearly where we are is better than where we were. Berating any manager or chairman because they didnt sign an average perfoming French second divison striker for £2.5m 10 years ago and they later turned out to be good is just the height of idiocy. Thedelldays Posted 22 May, 2012 Posted 22 May, 2012 Isn't a club out there that hasn't made bad judgements on some players. Hindsight doesn't half help. its a case it seemed...delagdo/drogba I wonder if our scouts/staff were saying such great things about 'tino....at the time like

You're right, apart from not signing Drogba, he proved himself a brilliant chairman.
Dark Munster Posted 22 May, 2012 Posted 22 May, 2012 And yet we paid nigh on 4 million for that dork from Ecuador and his cousin. Quite a bargain compared to the 4 million for Decrap (who was 3 times better than Drogba, according to the rosy cheeked bastard).
Smirking_Saint Posted 23 May, 2012 Posted 23 May, 2012 And yet we paid nigh on 4 million for that dork from Ecuador and his cousin. We could have got Forlan instead for 500k, but Lowe knew better, always stunk a bit that signing.
