kwsaint Posted 19 May, 2012 Posted 19 May, 2012 Now that Bialkowski has been released, and presumably Forecast would also have gone if he wasn't on such a long contract, who do you think that we will get in? Your thoughts?
Saintandy666 Posted 19 May, 2012 Posted 19 May, 2012 We should get in someone young who can take over from kelvin at some point.
fareham saint phil Posted 19 May, 2012 Posted 19 May, 2012 Craig Gordon, no fee needed and an experienced keeper and not a bad one too (for being Scottish and all)
Saint_clark Posted 19 May, 2012 Posted 19 May, 2012 Craig Gordon, no fee needed and an experienced keeper and not a bad one too (for being Scottish and all) Agents aren't stupid, they'll demand a high signing on fee seeing as the club doesn't have to pay a transfer one.
vince Posted 19 May, 2012 Posted 19 May, 2012 I think this fella would fit the bill: http://www.soccerbase.com/players/player.sd?player_id=35776 Might fancy a move back to the prem by now.
davefoggy Posted 19 May, 2012 Posted 19 May, 2012 We should get in someone young who can take over from kelvin at some point. I thought that was supposed to be Bart......great shame, always rated him. good luck Bart
Professor Posted 19 May, 2012 Posted 19 May, 2012 According to the Barnsley website, Luke Steele has a contract that expires at the end of next season. Wonder if he might be on Saints' radar?
Saint_lambden Posted 19 May, 2012 Posted 19 May, 2012 We need a long-term replacement for Kelvin either this season or next - players like Gordon and Carson are not it. Someone with potential, good distribution and who is a decent shot stopper. Shouldn't be too hard to find...
Bad Wolf Posted 19 May, 2012 Posted 19 May, 2012 Such a poor keeper. I really don't think he's better than Kelvin. If Kelvin is to be deprived of his top flight chance, it should be by someone good, not a proven dodgy keeper. IF KELVIN IS DEPRIVED OF HIS TOP FLIGHT CHANCE?!?! IF!??! This shouldn't even be on our minds. That man had the chance of the top flight when we were going under but turned it down because he wanted to have a crack at it with us. He's been our most consistent player for 5 years. I don't care who we get in, we could get in the best goalkeeper in the world for all I care (and because I don't particularly follow the foreign game, I don't really know who that is) Kelvin would STILL be our number one. He deserves this more than any other player from any of the three sides promoted and we don't even know who one side is yet.
stevy777_x Posted 19 May, 2012 Posted 19 May, 2012 I reckon we should bring in a French keeper. The quality of goalkeepers in the French league is greater than the Premier League and some playing for a mid table French side would cost much less that some of the names being mentionned.
Trader Posted 19 May, 2012 Posted 19 May, 2012 Craig Gordon, no fee needed and an experienced keeper and not a bad one too (for being Scottish and all) Would give the treatment room staff something to do, now Connolly and Holmes have gone.

If we can find better than we have them we should buy them and this goes for every position.
jjsaint Posted 19 May, 2012 Posted 19 May, 2012 Would give the treatment room staff something to do, now Connolly and Holmes have gone. This. Gordon never really lived up to the hype due to injury.
stev2001 Posted 19 May, 2012 Posted 19 May, 2012 (edited) IF we don't go for youth then I really think Allan McGregor would be worth a punt from Rangers. Would be great competition for Kelvin and a more than adequate stand in if he gets injured. British and ranked 37th in the world rankings below: http://bleacherreport.com/articles/813292-50-best-goalkeepers-in-the-world-football/page/15 Edited 19 May, 2012 by stev2001
VectisSaint Posted 19 May, 2012 Posted 19 May, 2012 Apart from Eric Martin, I have always had a problem with Scottish keepers. Gordon would be a better bet than McGregor. I see that Fabianski is leaving the Arse, we will need to bring in a Pole, otherwise the local support may drop off with Bart leaving :-)
stev2001 Posted 19 May, 2012 Posted 19 May, 2012 What about Samir Handanovic? Very good by all accounts and only 27 (but that might put him out of our price range)

Gordon would demand huge wages if he comes on a free and thats a huge risk to have someone on big wages who might not play many matches. Rangers are in trouble so need to sell players so we might get McGregor cheap and the wages should be much lower than Gordons.

We need a better keeper for the next level, and a few other players too.
Saint J 77 Posted 19 May, 2012 Posted 19 May, 2012 I'm not sure why the club don't just terminate Forecast contract. He must be very unlikely to make the 25 man squad. If he does somehow get in the 25 man squad its surely a wasted space? They must be pretty confident on there new goalkeeping target whoever he may be.

Do you think it's fair with all the unemployment at the moment for you to demand another one be added just because you don't like them?

Saint J 77 Posted 19 May, 2012 Posted 19 May, 2012 (edited) Do you think it's fair with all the unemployment at the moment for you to demand another one be added just because you don't like them? I never said I didn't like him. I have never met the guy so I could not tell you either way my opinion of him on a personal level. I just don't believe he is a good enough number 2 keeper for Saints in the premier league. Anyway who is to say he would end up unemployed that's you assuming no one will want him. If you are assuming that then you can't have much faith in his ability either can you? Edited 19 May, 2012 by Saint J 77
Dr. Kucho Posted 19 May, 2012 Posted 19 May, 2012 That Newcastle goalkeeper on loan at Celtic, Forrest or Forster whatever his name is, seems to be a decent goalie and wont be Nr 1 at Newcastle with Krul around.
david in sweden Posted 19 May, 2012 Posted 19 May, 2012 We should get in someone young who can take over from kelvin at some point. there are VERY few good, young keepers. Man Utd bought two younger ones and they are both a bit in and out, no real consistancy. It has taken Joe Hart years to get the top spot and he's around 30 now. Most good keepers don't start to get good until they're 30+ and there are several Prem.clubs with goalies around .. 40. Age is important for outfield players, butnot for keepers who are best when they are older.

Age is important for outfield players, butnot for keepers who are best when they are older. Several? I'd say there are maybe 3 teams with first choice keepers over 35, and that's giving you 5 year leeway.
saint_bert Posted 19 May, 2012 Posted 19 May, 2012 What about Samir Handanovic? Very good by all accounts and only 27 (but that might put him out of our price range) Also the fact that he signed a new contract last season and Udinesse have qualified for the CL might put him out of price ranges Top GK though. Great at PK's. This is one that won't happen I'm certain of that
View From The Top Posted 19 May, 2012 Posted 19 May, 2012 Joe Hart is 25 and played 126 times for Man City and is head and shoulders Englands number 1!! Strong argument for being the best keeper in the world as well.
Badger Posted 19 May, 2012 Posted 19 May, 2012 A couple of Dutch GK's were mentioned on a thread the other week after NA & a scout were thought to have returned from Netherlands.
Dr. Kucho Posted 19 May, 2012 Posted 19 May, 2012 A couple of Dutch GK's were mentioned on a thread the other week after NA & a scout were thought to have returned from Netherlands. Only Velthuizen (who,s personality could be a problem) and Zoet are worth looking at. Got my Dutch mate keeping a close eye on the rumours in The Netherlands, any news will be posted.

I think that was one of the names that stood out, an U21 keeper, loaned out by his club (PSV ?), possibly surplus to requirements there ?

PSV signed a goalkeeper at the start of the season and loaned Zoet to RKC Waalwijk, I think Zoet would definitely want regular football after the season he has had, so we might have a chance. My mate reckons we could have been talking to Ajax,s nr 3 goalkeeper Jeroen Verhoeven who has just been released;) Would be a challenge to get him Saints fit
Chez Posted 19 May, 2012 Posted 19 May, 2012 I suggested Gordon several months ago and still think he would be a good fit. He's over his injury. I'd go for Buckland too.
View From The Top Posted 19 May, 2012 Posted 19 May, 2012 Joe Lewis perhaps? He couldn't even get in the posh team.
Turkish Posted 20 May, 2012 Posted 20 May, 2012 He couldn't even get in the posh team. Think that wase because he didn't get on with duck lips. Think he's one of them that might be alright be a bit of work.
eelpie Posted 20 May, 2012 Posted 20 May, 2012 Joe Lewis perhaps? Aren't keepers meant to punch the ball, not the nose?
Clifford Nelson Posted 20 May, 2012 Posted 20 May, 2012 He will be young, probably early 20s, with plenty of potential, ready to start pushing KD from day one, but bought with the plan to be a natural replacement one, probably before KD has stopped playing. Anything else will not meet the clubs ambition. I wouldn't be surprised if he is dutch or at least is playing in Holland. We can forget tried and tested keepers who never quite made it.

I see that Fabianski is leaving the Arse, we will need to bring in a Pole, otherwise the local support may drop off with Bart leaving :-) Now this is an idea. Erect a lightweight, springly pole in the goalmouth and have a defender twang it occasionally - would be particulary effective for penalties and would enable a 0-1-10 total attack option.

dvaughanwilliams Posted 20 May, 2012 Posted 20 May, 2012 Tomasz Kuszczak would be a good signing in my view. He's now third choice at Man U behind Lindegaard and desperate to leave. Also Ben Foster is due to go back to Brum from WBA now his season long loan is up. Pretty sure Brum can't afford his wages and will look to move him on again. Of course you can't rule out a keeper coming in from the continent who turn out to be brilliant, like Vorm.
skintsaint Posted 20 May, 2012 Posted 20 May, 2012 or maybe a new number one coming in and Davis going No2....?
