fareham saint phil Posted 19 May, 2012 Posted 19 May, 2012 Although I'm really glad we weren't in the lottery of the play-offs, it makes you wonder that is winning the playoff with the Wembley appearance, walking up the steps, lifting a trophy to your fans etc "the best way" to go up Nothing can be guaranteed in football but winning at Wembley (as we all know) is an amazing feeling and something that can't be taken away from the players Having said that Losing at Wembley is ****e too!!
Saint_Ash Posted 19 May, 2012 Posted 19 May, 2012 Nothing makes me happier to know we're promoted and we can sit back and watch the other teams that weren't good enough scrap it out. Saying that I bet whoever wins the play offs will probably say it's better than boring automatic promotion. I wouldn't swap our place for either west ham or.Blackpool though.

No....because I wouldn't have been able to go today.
Wurzel Posted 19 May, 2012 Posted 19 May, 2012 Put it this way. How would you feel if you had the winning lottery ticket but to claim your prize had to wait 3 weeks, then go up to London and take a 50/50 chance of the prize with another ticket holder in front of millions of viewers. Give me the quiet, here is your cheque, go and change your life straight away option anytime
Jesus Reigned Posted 19 May, 2012 Posted 19 May, 2012 The 'high' of winning the play-offs would be massive but so would the 'low' of losing it, not to mention the two weeks of hell leading up to the final. I don't think this site could have handled it, what with the disproportionality high number of fannies we appear to have. So no, give me automatic promotion any day of the week.
saints-cris Posted 19 May, 2012 Posted 19 May, 2012 3 weeks in which our players have had a chance to rest, get boozed up, go on holiday and plan for next season. Dont think I could deal with a playoff final, and this forum would certainly implode.

My thoughts: What a fantastic job Nigel Adkins and the squad have done. Where were Reading last season - Championship Play Off Final, West Ham - Premiership, Blackpool - Premiership. And Southampton - Division One! To repeat what a fantastic performance. Thank whatever God you look to that we and the Players do not have to go through the Hell of Today!

Thank whatever God you look to that we and the Players do not have to go through the Hell of Today! Summed it up beautifully. I keep thinking to myself what the last 3 weeks might have been like building up to today. I've treated meself to a Terriers v Pigs ticket for the L1 final next weekend. Would love to see Hudds go up, they so deserved to go automatically last season, running us all the way to the line.
Steeleye Saint Posted 19 May, 2012 Posted 19 May, 2012 I don't think this site could have handled it, what with the disproportionality high number of fannies we appear to have. The expressions 'fannies', and more often 'wet fannies' seem to be used frequently on this forum as insults. I'm wondering why? In my experience the wetter the fanny the better.

Dont think I could deal with a playoff final, and this forum would certainly implode. This sums it all up. I'm glad I'm not there today. We've probably got several new players lined up already.
Steeleye Saint Posted 19 May, 2012 Posted 19 May, 2012 To quote a cricket expression "I am not keen on a sticky wicket" which is an extremely wet fanny but what ever floats your boat Nah - not wet enough to float a boat - please!
John Boy Saint Posted 19 May, 2012 Posted 19 May, 2012 The only slight tinge of disappointment was there was no second place trophy for us to cheer on the final day, although if that the size of the cup you get in the play off second place cup must be huge!! The way we did it was so much more comfortable.
Lord Duckhunter Posted 19 May, 2012 Posted 19 May, 2012 I always thought winning the play offs would be the best way up, but after the Cov game I've changed my mind. Nothing could come close to that feeling, and waiting another 3 weeks would have hospitalised me............

Ohio Saint Posted 19 May, 2012 Posted 19 May, 2012 Let's see. Saints started against Coventry with a deserved advantage (Not necessarily needing a win) Wham started today with no advantage, despite having earned one for the whole season. I'll take fairness over unnecessary trouser browning any time!!!
