Lord Duckhunter Posted 17 May, 2012 Share Posted 17 May, 2012 I saw this article on another web site and thought it deserved a thread on here. Loved the stories, especically the Cricket one "Steele was then introduced to a burly stranger. “The guy proceeds to knock back eight or nine pints of ale, then stands up and says, ‘see you, Steeley. Nice to have met you’. I asked Ron where he was going. ‘He’s going into bat,’" Apoligies if it has been posted before because it's quite old. http://www.heraldscotland.com/sport/more-scottish-football/balls-of-steele-1.1028014

Redondo Saint Posted 17 May, 2012 Share Posted 17 May, 2012 One of the good old boys for sure. I remember seeing him and Channon drinking at the Southampton Part hotel many times early Saturday evening. Who is the author (Bryan Cooney)?
alehouseboys Posted 17 May, 2012 Share Posted 17 May, 2012 Cracking read. Needless to say, the time I started watching Saints. I know some that shared a lock-in the night before a game a few times. I was too young at the time, shame. Good times.
Trumush Posted 17 May, 2012 Share Posted 17 May, 2012 Spent many a happy Saturday night in the company of Jimmy Steele and Eric Martin. Their coach trips to the England v Scotland games at Wembley were, shall I say interesting as well !!!
marc_saint Posted 17 May, 2012 Share Posted 17 May, 2012 Jim Steel now owns and runs a pub in the Cotswold town of Moreton-in-the-marsh and well worth a detour on the way up when Saints are playing in the Birmingham area. There's loads of football memorabilia on the ways (including '76 cup final bits and pieces) and every time I've been in there Jim is always behind the bar and more than happy to talk Saints. Top top bloke. http://donnington-brewery.com/pub_blackbearinn.php
