From a TV show a while ago, but it doesn't portray Owen in a good light if we want him to mentor young Saints strikers...

Michael Owen "Yeah, get in there!"

Neville Southall "Well done, he's 13"

Looking at that it was probably about 10 - 12 years ago....I suspect he may have matured

@adlallana1: RT @mattletiss7: @themichaelowen maybe the warmer south coast should be your next destination mate better for your muscles :-)

Not exactly tactful or confidence building for a 13 year old was it? Neville Southall doesn't seem to agree with you.

You really are a mong

And please stop embarrassing us on Twitter

I reckon he'll go off to somewhere in the UAE. Pick up a monster wage and combine it with his love of horse racing.

You forgot to add that he is a damned fine golfer and loves the courses down here.

He also buys rounds of beer after golf ;)

How am I embarrassing "us" on Twitter? Merely supporting the same 11 men running round a field doesn't mean my actions represent you or any other Saints fan.

A Football Ramble classic.

It does

It so very does

What subject do you teach ?

He managed to go round the keeper without putting himself out for 6 months so there's no way it was from after he left Liverpool.

How does it? Neither of us are employees of the club, we just happen to support the same club (probably through fluke of birth), my actions should not reflect on you in the same way yours don't on me.

I'm not in Winchester but can confirm that I won't see him when I am back home there later either...

What if he fancies some sustainable food ?

It's going to be a lot harder now for saints to find players that are PL quality, but without the prima donna attitude that comes with it.

I don't think it will. There are plenty of players outside the Prem with the right attitude and ability to prove themselves. Look at Pilkington and Bennett for Norwich. Besides, Sharp's got all the tools already, Lee can develop himself physically with a Saints preseason, and who knows how Guly might fare... :?

He's just the type of attractive name player and super sub player to replace David Connolly at the club. Just think of his effect on the Academy lads. We have long been a club to sign up players based on long standing injuries. What's Delgado doing these days? :)

Retired in 2010 to run his home-town club.

Really hope we don't sign Owen. Would probably want more money than the rest of our strikers combined, just to sit in the physio room. Having a big time Charlie come into the club and get paid more than the rest of them, whilst contributing nothing really wont be good for morale in the dressing room.

"If he gets fit he will be great" - If my auntie had a kn*b she'd be my uncle. All 'ifs' and not going to happen.

He wont settle for the right wage and in any case he's the very sort of over the hill injury prone luxury we don't want,,,Tandari Lee has the future

The injured Tadanari Lee?

;)

I also have a feeling that Lee will be great in the prem - and certainly hope so!!

Owen has far too many interests up north for him to come here, his vast stables for one,his love of horse racing outweighs his love of footbal.....football pays the bills, horse racing takes up most of his time.

He comes at a price, not just financially and I don't think we should pay it.

I see the Owen to saints bandwagon has started rolling

John Roberts‏@gingeybabes

Owen to Saints would be perfect. Lambert's touch and ability combined with Owen's movement and finishing would be deadly. #bbcsportsday

Lets lobby the club and make this a reality ....after all with Lee Holmes and (most likely) David Connolly leaving the Medical room needs a new occupant....

As if we need a 32 year old to play 18 matches in three years. Bonkers:facepalm:

Wouldn't mind having Owen to be honest but only if we can coax Teddy Sheringham out of retirement as well.

I think we've got more chance of getting Shearer back. After the latest 'twitter feud' I'm sure he'd love an opportunity to stick his size 10s between Joey Barton's ears.

Although he's class and only 2 years older than Ricky he's a liability regarding injuries and would want a tonne of cash so no for me.

Maybe he could sign up for the blue few as long as he's OK with being paid in nectar points?

Owen has lost his pace one thing that helped him stand out from others, IMO finishing wise im happy with Sharp, we really need a quick striker who can be a impact sub, like defoe has done for spurs, i would like someone like rodallega from wigan can play wings or upfront plenty of pace and proven to score a few goals at a poor club.

Anyone that thinks the addition of Michael Owen,on the correct contract, would be a bad thing, would be mental.

On the correct contract it's a no brainer, but the worst thing you can do with a player liek Owen is get all excited and offer him mega-bucks on a 2/3 year deal.

a pay as you play 1 year contract....then see how he gets on. We won't break our wage structure so he'd need to take a serious drop. I just don't know if he's lost his hunger or not...

Growing up he was my favourite player, absoloutley loved him when i was at school. Was a hero to look up to after 98.

He isn't even a footballer anymore - he never plays. After spending time on the treatment table, commuting in his helicopter from up North, attending the races, he has no time left to sit on the subs bench or to collect his 40k per week wages. Keep well clear....this guy has no desire left for the beautiful game.

Posted

Obviously Owen is a class player when he is injury free. The trouble is he will probably only end up in the treatment room most of the season. Plus his wages would be massive. If he did get on the pitch I would be worried that any tackle on him would either end his career or at least his season. I personally don't think he is worth the risk but I guess that's up to Adkins and Cortese to decide.

On what do you base the notion that his wages would be massive?? They may have been for the past few years, but as of June 30th he is out of contract so his wages will be zero ... unless he can persuade another club to pay him something. What his wages on any new contract would be, will be decided by what sort of market there is for his services. Besides us, the only other club I've seen connected to him as yet is Stoke, and they'll hardly be offering him ManU or ManC type wages, you can be sure!

The reality is, that Owen is going, one way or another, to be playing for much lower wages than he has been used to. Givenm that there will be no transfer fee, and the type of player he is, I'd think that teams like Stoke and Saints could make him, say, a 2 year offer at the high end of their respective wage ranges, and if he wants to play on for a while in the Prem (and he does!), then he'll look seriously at such offers.

Would he be a fit for us? Well, at the very least he could fill the David Connolly role: experienced senior player of spotty fitness, but who can score some vital goals off the bench or in a spot starter role. Worth a punt, I'd say ...
