Saint Lindford Posted 17 May, 2012 Share Posted 17 May, 2012 The M4 and most of Cardiff was turned Yellow. Great day out and as was said at the time the best fans to have gone to Cardiff for a final.
Big_Bald_Si Posted 17 May, 2012 Share Posted 17 May, 2012 Great day out. Even though we got battered the whole game, I'll always remember the whole of the Saints end applauding the team off the pitch. Tear in my eye, I must say.
Frank's cousin Posted 17 May, 2012 Share Posted 17 May, 2012 We can't have been Lindford, did you not see all those is colours and jester hatted kids and 30,000+ enjoying themeselves and showing sporting ideals through staying to clap the winners as well as our own? Or hear the wall of 'Yellows' against drowning out waht little squeaks came form the Gooners until they scored? We have been told that this sort of thing makes us an embarassment to football... The9 Posted 17 May, 2012 Share Posted 17 May, 2012 (edited) I saw a dog in a Saints kit outside the Capitol Centre in Cardiff, for which I will be forever grateful. Edited 17 May, 2012 by The9 Edited for awesomeness.

alki_in_korea Posted 17 May, 2012 Share Posted 17 May, 2012 i remember bourding the minibus about 7am and the bloke we were going with had made an extra seat out of wood. I remember trying to drink drink for drink with a lot of people older than me and being completely wasted. We went into the wrong spoons at first before we arrived in te prince of wales. Arsenal fans were not pleased to see us in the first pub. I remember claus foul on pires and thats about it just remember being really proud and was an amazing day

Even though we got battered the whole game, I'll always remember the whole of the Saints end applauding the team off the pitch. Tear in my eye, I must say. We didn't get battered for the whole game. They had a good go at us early on and probably should have had a penalty but we slowly got ourselves into the game and could've nicked an equaliser late on. At least we didn't conceed 6 like we did against them in the league a week before. Now that was a battering!
BadgerBadger Posted 17 May, 2012 Share Posted 17 May, 2012 Singing 'shall we sing a song for you' to the Arsenal fans after the match had finished. It was one of the few songs that the whole yellow end got going together - spine tingling stuff

The 30,000+ providing a vivid display of colour and a wall of noise is far more entertaining than the dullness that was served up a couple of weeks ago with no colour, no noise, no real singing of Abide with Me and the booing of the National Anthem. Gemmel Posted 17 May, 2012 Share Posted 17 May, 2012 I loved Strachan, but in our two biggest matches we never went for it and think he bottled it to a certain extent. 1) The FA cup final, "Battered" probably isn't the right word, but Arsenal had another 4 gears to go up, if we had shown any signs of a fight. They controlled the game and we were happy keeping the score line respectful. I would rather have conceeded another 1 or 2 goals in exchange for really pushing forward and moving the game up a pace or two, throwing a littel caution to the wind. 2) Away to Steaua. We needed to score, but we played as if we wanted a draw - Never understood the tactics, shape or motivation for how we played that night,

As they showed the week before that game when they humped us 6-1, they would've punished us if we played too openly. We kept it tight and nearly snatched it at the end with Seaman making a wonder save and Cole clearing off the line. Turkish Posted 17 May, 2012 Share Posted 17 May, 2012 I thought we played it perfectly against Arsenal. As they showed the week before that game when they humped us 6-1, they would've punished us if we played too openly. We kept it tight and nearly snatched it at the end with Seaman making a wonder save and Cole clearing off the line. Strachan alluded to that after the game. People forget just how good Arsenal were in those days, ljundberg, Pires, Henry and Berkamp in their prime were as good as an attacking 4 there has been in English football. Strachan wanted to keep the first hour tight keep them in touching distance and then use our fitness and power to push on in the last 30 minutes. It nearly worked as well but for a goal line clearance and great save from Seaman. If we'd have attacked them and played them at their own game we'd have lost 4 or 5-0. This Charming Man Posted 17 May, 2012 Share Posted 17 May, 2012 that team tuned out to be the invincibles...one of the greatest teams in english football We were so close to putting an end to that invincible run at Highbury. I was absolutely gutted walking out of Highbury after they'd levelled in the 5th minute of the 3 minutes injury time that was allocated.

I was there for that, stood in front of a couple that had put £100 on us winning at 10/1 (or longer), it was going to pay for their ST's the following season!
