Viking Warrior Posted 15 May, 2012 Share Posted 15 May, 2012 I think he is here for a very long while but I have heard unfounded rumours that the scousers are after him as are villa . I'm not concerned at all and he has a squad coaches and chairman who are working as one . So basically these spurious. Rumours are just that

Viking Warrior Posted 15 May, 2012 Author Share Posted 15 May, 2012 I'm in the pub writing my post kraken. Just trying to stimulate debate . This Liverpudlian was saying he would be their ideal manager . I told him politely not an effing chance .
Thedelldays Posted 15 May, 2012 Share Posted 15 May, 2012 Why no chance. He may well leave for villa. He was happy to leave scunny for us. Villa are a much bigger club and Lerner might offer a bigger transfer budget
The Kraken Posted 15 May, 2012 Share Posted 15 May, 2012 I thougt today that Villa's statement of intent for a new manager had NA written all over it. Young, vibrant and someone who will transform the club. Now we're in the Premier League, the more successful we are the much greater risk there is of losing him. Paul Lambert is already being talked of as managing at another Premier League club to Norwich this season; a fact of football for clubs our size, I'm afraid. Possible - but maybe NC is thinking along mre contnental lines where the 'head coach' is there to shape and mould, but the continuity is delivered by others? LVSaint Posted 15 May, 2012 Share Posted 15 May, 2012 I'd give it at least another season before possibly losing Nigel. So he goes to a bigger club now and risks failing, he'd have to start all over again. I'm sure he'll be happy here with the challenge he's got next season. Got Norwich to PL from L1 and wasn't going to step away in his first season. Did the hard work to get there and wanted to see his side perform well, and they have. However next season may be different for him, and the season after, potentially us.

The backup team are in place to help him do his job.
Pilchards Posted 15 May, 2012 Share Posted 15 May, 2012 We are in a win win situation with Adkins. If we start off badly in the first 15 games then Cortese will sack him and replace with a premiership proven manager that will take our 5 year plan forward. If Adkins does well then he will stay as he knows we are onto something big here, IMHO I trust Cortese to do what he has to do for us to reach the very top. Cortese is not someone that wants to be part of the premiership, he wants to be the premiership.
doddisalegend Posted 16 May, 2012 Share Posted 16 May, 2012 I love us to have a long serving manager taking us forward as a club Nigel would be perfect for that. However managers in the modern game walk a very thin line if we start to look like relegation candidates next season I have no doubt NC we will wield the axe...He's done it once already and got good results. Then there's the rumours about all not being well between NA and NC...
dune Posted 16 May, 2012 Share Posted 16 May, 2012 Potentially he'll be the best manager we've ever had, but he'll have to a) cut it in the top flight, and b) be a loyal servant.

IF there is any truth in these rumours, its probably no more than NC being a bit ****ed off that 'only' finished second - I believe he sets and expects the highest targets and standards, andhas probably already told Nige what he expects next year at a time when NIge probably wants to take a breather.. but suspect its all rumour/gossip ******. Afterall no owrking relationship is ever 100% smooth all the time.

Rumours are just that Too early for Liverpool ... but if NA proves himself at prem level then I guess this would be his dream job. As for Villa, I think he would do a great job there but I really think they are after a bigger name. Chances of either ... slim. Bookies latest odds for NA for the Liverpool job are 50/1 and 20/1 for the Villa job.

I reckon NC was annoyed we didn't win the championship but so was Nigel. So there wasn't much to not agree on there anyway.
Ken Tone Posted 16 May, 2012 Share Posted 16 May, 2012 I'd have thought that the (50% or so?) PL clubs that are inherently 'bigger' than us will not want to risk Nigel until he's proved he can do it in the top division. My hope is a) he will indeedprove it, but b) Cortese will then convince him that Saints are on the way to being as big as many of those other clubs anyway, with, by then, definite plans to extend the stadium and more investment in the playing squad. If a) and b) both happen, then only the top 4 or so clubs will be a threat, and they mostly want really big names as managers, which Nigel won't be until he's taken us into Europe a few times. conaero Posted 16 May, 2012 Share Posted 16 May, 2012 The reason he left Scunny for us was that he had taken the club as far as he could have. What we have here is a different scenario. He still has a lot to prove and he is a descent man to boot. Maybe he will leave but not now, no way, next season, maybe.

Cant see him going to Vile or West Bum. We will always be victims of our own success; there will be loads of rumours about our manager and players over the summer. Its going to be a long one for Saints fans...
Raging Bull Posted 16 May, 2012 Share Posted 16 May, 2012 Considering Carl Robison (apparently) is on Liverpool's short list I don't at all think Adkins going there is a long shot.

Lord Duckhunter Posted 16 May, 2012 Share Posted 16 May, 2012 Having listened to Lambert's interview after the last game of the season, I'm pretty certain there's been some unofficial contact from Villa. When asked if he would be Norwich manager next season he paused before saying "we will have to wait and see". Norwich fans were getting their knickers in a twist over losing him to Villa during a phone in, until someone pointed out to them that they had done the same thing to Colchester. It's the same with us, he came to us because he felt we were a better option that Scunny. I hope we dont complain and call him traitor if he moves on. Hopefully that will be many years away.
