Kingsland Red Posted 14 May, 2012 Posted 14 May, 2012 If ever there was an example of a player prolonging his career by ambling leisurely around the middle of a football pitch, this man is it. He probably smokes a pipe and has a colley dog by his side these days, but all credit to the boy,he is in the Sweden squad for the Euros having knocked the Argies out all those years ago (2002?). http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/18061706
Colinjb Posted 14 May, 2012 Posted 14 May, 2012 All that time under Strachan obviously taught him a thing or two about longevity. Seaweed sarnies anyone?
Hatch Posted 14 May, 2012 Posted 14 May, 2012 I really like him, miles better than the players around him, and they dragged him down to their level. Would have excelled in a better team than ours.
La BoIS Saint Posted 14 May, 2012 Posted 14 May, 2012 Decent wife (or ex wife now I think) http://www.google.co.uk/search?tbm=isch&source=mog&hl=en-GB&gl=uk&client=safari&tab=wi&q=anders%20svensson%20wife&sa=N&biw=320&bih=356#i=6
Yate Saint Posted 14 May, 2012 Posted 14 May, 2012 I have Sweden in the sweepstake at work. Go Anders!!!!
kpturner Posted 14 May, 2012 Posted 14 May, 2012 I have Sweden in the sweepstake at work. Go Anders!!!! Don't hold your breath!
Saint Stimp Posted 14 May, 2012 Posted 14 May, 2012 126 caps, incredible achievement. 2nd most capped in Swedish history. And here's that goal..
saintedwill Posted 15 May, 2012 Posted 15 May, 2012 sadly, the managers we had didn't know how to use him effectively.
svetigpung Posted 15 May, 2012 Posted 15 May, 2012 really nice guy as well. Quick feet, neat passing, good vision, usefull payer....he would have been much better suited for saints 2012 as opposed to the team 2002.
Smirking_Saint Posted 15 May, 2012 Posted 15 May, 2012 No john guidetti, strange that is IMO considering the glittering form he has had in Holland
St.Patrik Posted 15 May, 2012 Posted 15 May, 2012 He´s used as the defensive midfielder now for Sweden in the diamond shaped midfield and even if he´s getting old (for a footballer) he´s doing a really god job in that position. Sweden vs England - really looking forward to that game : )
St.Patrik Posted 15 May, 2012 Posted 15 May, 2012 He´s injured - otherwise he would have been in the squad. They did a test here in Sweden yesterday and his injury will not be OK in time for the Euros.... No john guidetti, strange that is IMO considering the glittering form he has had in Holland
sussexsaint Posted 15 May, 2012 Posted 15 May, 2012 Wasnt Anders still with us at this time ? at the time of the free kick - yep

Sounds a little bit like Redknapp pushed Svensson out the door..
This Charming Man Posted 15 May, 2012 Posted 15 May, 2012 Always liked him as a player. Shame he never really got to show us what he was capable of though as his style didn't really suit WGS style.
Greenridge Posted 15 May, 2012 Posted 15 May, 2012 Always liked him as a player. Shame he never really got to show us what he was capable of though as his style didn't really suit WGS style. Redknapp seemed to make it his number 1 priority to rid the club of the Scandinavians at the earliest opportunity. Other than Hreidarsson at Pompey this appears to be a common theme throughout his managerial career.
stev2001 Posted 15 May, 2012 Posted 15 May, 2012 (edited) Redknapp seemed to make it his number 1 priority to rid the club of the Scandinavians at the earliest opportunity. Other than Hreidarsson at Pompey this appears to be a common theme throughout his managerial career. Technically Iceland isn't part of scandinavia in the strictess terms so the above statement is true.. We definitely missed a trick with Anders. Unfortunately for what ever reason he never seemed to play as well for us as he did with Sweden. Edited 15 May, 2012 by stev2001
