pap Posted 14 May, 2012 Share Posted 14 May, 2012 Surely got to be in the running for worst Premiership manager of all time. Got Brum relegated, was given the job at Villa and managed to turn a mid-table side into genuine relegation candidates. Might be a harsh assessment, as he won a trophy at Brum and I get the feeling that not all is well at Villa. Still, there's no way he can look at his work there and say that they're in a better place now than when he started.
Window Cleaner Posted 14 May, 2012 Share Posted 14 May, 2012 Surely got to be in the running for worst Premiership manager of all time. Wouldn't stand a chance against real thoroughbreds like Steve Wigley, that bloke currently at Blackburn and Vilas Boas. Not to mention Paul Jewell
saints_is_the_south Posted 14 May, 2012 Share Posted 14 May, 2012 Shame really, as I quite fancied him to take Villa down next season.

Window Cleaner Posted 14 May, 2012 Share Posted 14 May, 2012 villa got 1 point LESS than brum last season with arguably a better squad.McLeish just doesn't know what he's doing that's the fact of it.He could get Man Citeh relegated. He's used to Scottish football and Scottish standards, unfortunately that has nothing to do with today's modern game.

S-Clarke Posted 14 May, 2012 Share Posted 14 May, 2012 To be fair, he was put into a pretty difficult situation and the chairman never gave him a chance. He was plucked from local rivals Birmingham, so was already at a disadvantage. He was then asked to take control of an aging and degrading bunch of players, and he wasn't really given the scope to change much about. So Randy Lerner needs to have a look at himself too, and ask himself where is the club going? They can't keep selling Downing, Milner, Young etc...and not replace them, what do they expect will happen? They need to invest and rebuild that squad, but unless a new manager is given the scope to do it then he's in for a very tricky time.

View From The Top Posted 14 May, 2012 Share Posted 14 May, 2012 The Villa fan I share an office with renewed his season ticker as soon as he heard the news. Renewals were down by nearly 40% and it's that that has focused the mind of the owners.
pap Posted 14 May, 2012 Author Share Posted 14 May, 2012 Martin O'Neill is a tough act to follow. Who will replace Alex McLeish at Aston Villa? (Guardian) Their rogues gallery is Hughton, Curbishley, Lambert, Martinez and Bob Bradley.
jjsaint Posted 15 May, 2012 Share Posted 15 May, 2012 Their rogues gallery is Hughton, Curbishley, Lambert, Martinez and Bob Bradley. Don't understand how Bradley's name keeps coming up for such a big job. Did I miss him taking USA to the semis last World Cup? I mean, he's not a bad manager, but a higher standard than McLeish? Not sure.
