Saint Charlie Posted 14 May, 2012 Share Posted 14 May, 2012 (edited) Most likely out on Friday according to Solent. Think a few will be released. Anyone got a full list of those out contract? Off the top of my head: Harlee Dean (Said on twitter he hasn't been offered a deal) David Connolly Lee Holmes Bart Bialkowski Ryan Doble Radhi Jaidi There might be a couple of others. IMO need to be ruthless. None of these players are up to the Premier League so I expect to see them all released, with maybe Jaidi coaching in some form with the youth setup? Bart is most likely to be offered a new deal but lets be honest...he isn't good enough and should get some regular games elsewhere. Its a shame for him, and if he somehow agreed to be 3rd choice maybe he will stay, but he isn't a good enough second choice keeper in the Prem (see Fulop yesterday) and I think we will being another keeper in anyway. mcjwills Posted 14 May, 2012 Share Posted 14 May, 2012 (edited) As we can only have a 25 man squad you can bet that wingman Tommy Forecast will not get named as one of the 25. Think Forte may be moved on as well possible on a free or an undisclosed fee. Edited 14 May, 2012 by mcjwills

Well that will depend on if Bart's knee is recovered enough for him to pass a medical elsewhere won't it. He's been out of contract before, had some sort of trial with Sporting Braga but failed the medical.Guess he had few options but to return to us and accept a no-doubt very poor contract. Possibly. Would be nice to see a decent addition competing with Davis and then a young promising keeper to be signed as third choice who we can loan out for experience like Brum have with Butland. Had this discussion the other day, with some Saints fans and neutrals. The neutral opinion was that it would be massively harsh to not have Davis as the no. 1 keeper for the Prem. The Saints fans (including me), while recognising his contribution were of the opinion that we need a really top keeper from the start of the season, and someone who is more accomplished than Davis at command of the area and distribution. I equated it to when we signed Niemi. Jones was a decent keeper and gave us good service, but Niemi came in a took us onto a whole new level with some of his brilliance. The Kraken Posted 14 May, 2012 Share Posted 14 May, 2012 There was a post a while ago that showed the number of players the three promoted sides signed last summer. I was quite surprised, Norwich and Swansea both signed around 9 or 10 players. QPR more. With that in mind, assuming we do the same, we're going to have to leave a lot of the current squad out of the list of 25 we submit. As we can have as many U21s as we want, I'd suggest the following will be replaced: Bart Forecast Seaborne Jaidi Harding Holmes Puncheon Connolly Barnard Forte Dickson I think, despite their efforts to date, Chaplow and Hammond may also be under a bit of pressure. Wouldn't be surprised either way if they got kept on or released.
sammysaint Posted 14 May, 2012 Share Posted 14 May, 2012 Harlee Dean ? has he not been performing well for Brentford ? i would of offered him a new deal and loaned him out again to a top league one team this time, hoping he can be part of a promotion winning squad then review it next season, because should we go down and we lose a few players i reckon he would do a job in the championship same as Martin. After getting rid of players like Forecast,Forte,Dickson,Holmes and older players like DC and RJ who i hope both can stay with us as coaches, we should be then focusing on getting young players like Martin Stephens Ward Prowse out on loan, then sign a few players who can add quality like a RB and RM. S-Clarke Posted 14 May, 2012 Share Posted 14 May, 2012 (edited) I don't think we'll be too ruthless, sometimes I think you can be. Look at Pardew's second season with us for example. In that summer we released 14 or 15 players IIRC, our retained list didn't contain many retained players...put it that way. It took us a while to get going again after that, and we never really had the depth after that either. So, steady as she goes. The out of contract guys will go, but I'd be surprised to see players like Harding, Chaplow or Hammond let go. Butterfield also recently signed a new contract, so he will still be part of the plans here next year. As people keep saying, it's about evolution - not revolution. Too much change will make us very vulnerable. This team ethic we have at the moment is excellent, and I wouldn't want to see it ripped apart at the expense of some mega-premiership stars on $$$$$$. And as has been said, a team will get you more success than a collective of individuals. Edited 14 May, 2012 by S-Clarke

SNSUN Posted 14 May, 2012 Share Posted 14 May, 2012 Add Hammond and Butterfield, and that list seems to make a lot of sense. Didn't Butterfield recently get a new deal? Perhaps Adkins sees another year out of him as back up until Stephens is ready to come in. As for Hammond, I'd actually be very surprised if he left. We need some modicum of consistancy and while we don't think Hammond is Premier League quality, he shows fighting skills and has been our captain for three seasons so Adkins could see him as a decent back up player. Norwich kept Lappin for instance, who's not Premier League quality, and Swansea kept Tate and Monk which people would perhaps have thought were not Premier League quality. If we go up and get relegated after one season, we'd potentially lose the Lallanas and Morgans of the world too, and Hammond would become invaluable to us. The Kraken's list is about right, with question marks over Harding perhaps.

Nidger Posted 14 May, 2012 Share Posted 14 May, 2012 My views on our out of contract players are: David Connolly - Released Lee Holmes - Released, and will probably sign for Swindon on a free transfer Bart Bialkowski - Offered new contract with a view to loaning him to a Championship team for next season to get him some much needed regular 1st team football Ryan Doble - Released Radhi Jaidi - Will join the coaching ranks to help develop the impressive array of young talent coming through our academy Some others who I think may leave are: Forecast - Please can somebody take this sponger off our wage bill! Seaborne - Potentially loaned to a Championship team for the season to get him regular 1st team experience (which he unfortunately missed out on last season) Puncheon - A potential makeweight in any cash + player deal for either Matt Phillips or Wilfred Zaha Barnard - Potentially loaned to a Championship team for the season to get him regular 1st team football, especially if we add another top striker to our ranks Forte - Sold, most probably to Notts County Dickson - Has dropped down the pecking order to 3rd choice left back and with the emergence of Luke Shaw (potentially next season), he doesn't seem to have much of a future at the club

Blandford saint Posted 15 May, 2012 Share Posted 15 May, 2012 I noticed when all those players that Swansea and Norwich signed were listed on the thread the other day that lots of them had hardly made a first team appearance. Also noticed that when Norwich changed their team around the other week after a defeat that they went back to the core of a very familiar team that we played in League One. We've made that mistake before of signing a huge volume of squad players, so I hope we sign quality players that are automatic first choices and better than we already have. Otherwise if we want squad players, we are better off keeping the likes of Hammond and Harding.
BotleySaint Posted 15 May, 2012 Share Posted 15 May, 2012 I've spoken to a few Brentford supporting friends and they are really pleased with Harlee Dean. Pat from Poole Posted 15 May, 2012 Share Posted 15 May, 2012 A top notch goalkeeper is worth 15 points a season, as Niemi proved. This is so true, I think it's a massive reason for Swansea's success this season, Vorm is superb. Similarly Krol at Newcastle. Absolute fair play to Kelvin for rejecting West Ham 3 years ago and for everything he has done for us, but a top-quality keeper is a must if we are to make an impact next season. I was hoping we would just terminate the rest of his contract. Paying him off the reminader of his time. I thought we have done that before for other players we no longer wanted and that they had been added to the list of out going players for this time of year. Wayne Thomas springs to mind, didn't he have a year left when we released him? I suppose we won't here about any out going players today now anyway cause apparently Nigel's currently in Boston for some reason
