Joey Barton

What if you don't like Barton but find watching him explode amusing? Where does that place me on the league table of dregs?

If it is a tie by the way and you need some sort of goal difference to split us, I also found Cantona amusing, Collymore less though.

Exactly. Can't believe anyone doesn't find him at least a bit entertaining even if they think he's a cock.

Barton, Cantona, Di Canio, Ballotelli, Savage - they're all characters that you can't help but find amusing, IMO. There is no denying that they can and have acted like kn0bs but at least they're entertaining, unlike; Roy Keane, Collymore, Marlon King and the like who are just kn0bs.

I wish the backroom staff hadn't got between Barton and Ballotelli.

That is something I would loved to have seen.

I thought exactly the same thing, although I did hear that this may be on the under-card of 'The Shame in West Ham' fight between Haye & Chisora.

No surprise it seems to be the absolute dregs and brainless that like Barton.

Did you see his interview on Newsnight - even Paxo warmed to him.

His thoughts on the state of football in this country were certainly more interesting than your war-and-peace digressions on here....

Could be a 15 game ban.

3 for initial red (plus 1 for 2nd red of season.)

3 for Aguero kick (plus 2 for 3rd red of season.)

3 for the headbutt (plus 3 for 4th red of season.)

That would certainly be my take on it, he's basically comitted 3 red card offences in one game.

As for the Prutton incident, they threw an extra 9 games on top of his 1 match ban for a second yellow, so there is a pretty harsh precedent here. I'll bet you anything Barton gets less than Prutton though. My guess, 8 games.

The linesman got it wrong, Tevez hit Barton, so should have been sent off first. Barton retaliated and also should have then been sent off. I think if both of them had been sent off, Barton may well have not been so incensed by the unfairness of the one sided decision, and not kicked off. This poor decision may well have decided the result, consequently the championship.

Totally agree with this.

QPR's Joey Barton has been charged by the FA for two acts of alleged violent conduct, following his behaviour at Manchester City on Sunday.

He was sent off for an incident involving Carlos Tevez but faces the two charges following clashes with both Sergio Aguero and Vincent Kompany.

As Barton had already been dismissed, both incidents fell outside of the jurisdiction of the referee.

Barton has until 18:00BST on Tuesday, 15 May to respond to the charges.

the linesman was too far away to see all of the incident.Sneaky feckers like Tevez know how to hit opponents without anyone

seeing without the aid of technology. 2 red cards merited and should have been given. This is what I said yesterday, Barton was set up yet again and none better to do that than Tevez.

Does anyone have a vid of the Prutton sending off? I couldn't find one online. Would be interesting to compare the two.

Concerning Joey Barton, I thought the Aguero incident should be a lengthy ban in itself. To be honest with his history he should have a serious ban, meaning years.

You are mental to suggest this for two reasons:-

1) Why deny yourself the entertainment?

2) At least if Joey is playing you know where he is for 90 minutes a week, sometimes more*

*International weekends excepted.

He got on well with Hughton at Newcastle, probably end up wherever Chris stays/goes. The incident was probably the result of his personality, City winding him up and the importance of the game.

He seems like quite an intelligent bloke (watch the Newsnight interview above for proof of that), but he's got that side to him which is completely unpredictable. He can lash out, and he's pretty handy so can do some damage!

Wouldn't want him here though.

This.

Can you imagine the media scrum if that had happened? Balotelli should probably have been booked, he was clearly inciting.

Agree though that they should have just let Kompany and Barton go at it ice hockey style...

He has acted like a prat/idiot on numerous occasions... like we all do, thankfully wthout the spolight of the media trained on us. Whilst you cant condone his behaviour on the pitch, I cant satnd the girly whinging, crying, rolling about these 'med' do. Its pathetic. Its also cheating. had Tevez stood his ground and gone face to face, fair enough. I know many on here like to laugh at the egg chasers, but there you get a ouple of swinging arms, its calmed down and everyone gets on with the game. Can you imgaine that kind of girly antics going on on Rugby field and the stick they would get... Barton, is an unlikelable character, but he nudged a couple of players - and suddenly its outrage....

Do you know of any 'sportsman' other than Barton, who has stubbed out a cigar in the eye of an 18 year old youth player at his club? He's a bit worse than the usual run of prat/idiot. People react like they do when he does things like this because, in between such incidents, we have to listen to him and whichever manager he's conned lately, bleating on about how he is now a reformed character....again. No, Barton is just a thug. (Tevez on the other hand is a prat/idiot !)

:D Good point - although a ban opens up the possibility of a reality show...

You are right, but my thoughts are in respect to the 'moral outrage' at the events on Sunday... not about his overall character and idiocy/thuggery?

I refer the honourable gentleman to the answer I gave previously ----

That's why the moral outrage IMO. I mean he is QPR's captain for god's sake!

Fair points - and yes you ahve to view the actions in the context of the rules and 'culture' in football versus other sports, but in general dont you find the 'reaction' to players doing this kind of thing a bit OTT? Its not an 'assult' or racist insult, but a roguish prat who was wound up?
