Joey Barton

I see that the papers today are saying that Joey Barton faces a ban of 'up to' 9 games for his antics yesterday.

By my reckoning, he displayed 3 separate instances of violent conduct: Elbow to Tevez, attack on Aguero and attempted head butt on Kompany. Unless the Premier league are running some sort of 'commit one offence, get two free' offer, surely his ban will be a bare minimum of10 games? 3 for each incident and one for it being his second red of the season. Throw in his continued aggressiveness when leaving the pitch and a disrepute charge for his subsequent idiotic Twitter comments and I think he'll be laughing if he only gets 9 games.

He's from Liverpool ?

Quelle Surprise.

Why don't you read the Jimmy Corkhill piece, Alps? Massively critical of Barton and his family.

Where did I get it? Funnily enough, from my Facebook feed - about 10 of my scouse mates have it linked.

Still, since we're assigning labels based on the accident of birth, you must be a scumbag as you grew up on the Flower Roads estate. As must I.

Classic. Pap's strongest rebuttal of criticism is to quote from the spoof twitter account of a cocaine dealing Brookside character.

Blimey Tim. You really are getting personal now, mate.

I think you need to get that checked out.

Legend. Sure he has issues -he's the first to admit he has- but the scumbag comments are way off. A strong sense of justice and dislike of hypocrisy coupled with a few demons and difficulty fitting in -that's all. Big deal - there's a lot, lot worse in the world.

What did Prutton get for his 'assault' and subsequent behaviour? Precedent? And how he has the gall to have a go at Shearer is beyond me, as a footballer he is not fit to clean his boots. lets face it if he couldnt play football he would be in jail like several others of his ilk. And as we know from SRL not all scousers are thugs so leave off.

I love how high and mighty you lot are about this. So what, I found it entertaining, and you know what, I've done for worse for someone (Tevez) doing far less to me. And I bet most of you lot would as well.

I was p*ssing myself laughing when it all kicked off. All helped add to one of the most dramatic Premiership games of all time.

Don't think too many are getting high and mighty, just stating he's a c*nt. Which he is, doesn't mean I don't find him funny though.

he knew he was going to get sent off and one of his teammates suggested trying to take one down with him! Excellent idea :D he definately went for it, nutting (or attempting), kicking anybody who was in the vicinity, and even those that werent. all of it made me guffaw

@GaryLineker do u wanna go there publicly "Mr Squeaky Clean" ? Think u should have a look in that vast closet of skeltons before u respond.

For the benefit of anyone who hasn't seen the tweets :D

This one about Shearer did make me laugh.

"I'd take it off Hansen and @GaryLineker but not from that bell, same fella that stamped on Neil Lennon, then threatened FA if they banned him"

There's no denying he is amusing.

Probably just the usual, sh*gging around and the like. The stuff that nobody really cares about but the media go ballistic over.

If i have heard this to be true, then surely the media have, so Barton will hardly be 'revealing' anything, the media have just chosen not to publish for whatever reason.

Mr Squeeky Clean soon shut up when Barton spoke of the skeletens in his closet.

Or maybe he just has better things to do with his life apart from swapping insults with a prat like Barton? Very hard to believe that Barton would know anything about Lineker that would not have leaked out in the media by now.

Has anyone seen anything to support Barton's excuse that Tevez hit him before he elbowed him? Can't say I could see any sign of that on the match of the day replays.

There was a shot from the dugout that showed Tevez taking some sort of a swing at him, so I'd expect him to have to face a violent conduct charge as well.

If the FA take each incident in isolation, Barton should be looking at at least 10 games on the sidelines. 4 for the red card (3 + 1 as it's his second of the season), another 3 for booting Aguero and another 3 for headbutting/attempting to headbutt Kompany. If the disciplinary panel were feeling particularly in the mood to throw several books at him, they might even add another game or two for failing to leave the pitch promptly and/or attempting to get involved in a spat with Balotelli as he was ushered away.

Didn't see that shot. Tevez should be banned too then.

As to Barton's likely ban -- will they add more for bringing the game into disrepute for his twitter comments about trying deliberately to get a City player to retaliate?

Not sure anyone's been banned before for Twitter comments, so would imagine anything to do with that would involve a fine of some description.

What do you think Shearer will get for his stamp on Lennon?

No surprise it seems to be the absolute dregs and brainless that like Barton.

What if you don't like Barton but find watching him explode amusing? Where does that place me on the league table of dregs?

If it is a tie by the way and you need some sort of goal difference to split us, I also found Cantona amusing, Collymore less though.
