Matthew Le God Posted 13 May, 2012 Posted 13 May, 2012 It would seem Cortese/Adkins are intent on prising away at least one star player from either of the Old Firm clubs, if not Gary Hooper at Celtic then why not the Rangers captain... http://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/football/spl/rangers/2012/05/13/premier-league-new-boys-southampton-keen-to-land-rangers-skipper-steve-davis-86908-23857658/

S-Clarke Posted 13 May, 2012 Posted 13 May, 2012 for £2m, he'd be absolute quality. He's done it in the premiership with Fulham and Vila before, and he did a good job too. He's stuck out like a sore thumb in the SPL as he's clearly too good for that level. Would be a brilliant start to our business.
This Charming Man Posted 13 May, 2012 Posted 13 May, 2012 I watch Rangers quite a bit and I'd certainly hope we're setting our sights slightly higher than him.
Saint Fan CaM Posted 13 May, 2012 Posted 13 May, 2012 Take it or leave it TBH - I don't think he's too much better than Morgan, but he has got some experience on his side. s-:
Sour Mash Posted 13 May, 2012 Posted 13 May, 2012 The thoughts of Rangers fans... http://forum.rangersmedia.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=219958 Mixed views from the Rangers fans on there. At least they're a bit more respectful about Saints than some of the Celtic lot.
farawaysaint Posted 13 May, 2012 Posted 13 May, 2012 I'd take him in a shot at 2 million pounds, and it's Steven by the way not Stephen MLG

S-Clarke Posted 13 May, 2012 Posted 13 May, 2012 OK....... I've always rated him tbh, I remember watching him at Villa and thinking he was a decent player. Didn't do too bad at Fulham either. Goal scoring midfielder, experienced in the premiership, 26 years old.....£2m. Deal.
This Charming Man Posted 13 May, 2012 Posted 13 May, 2012 OK....... He's a good player but no better than what we've already got. One player of theirs we should be looking at is Sonny Aluko. Very skilful winger who also scores a few, he's good on the ball, English and he's young. He also went on trial at Juventus before signing for Rangers this season, so must have something about him for them to take notice.
Matthew Le God Posted 13 May, 2012 Author Posted 13 May, 2012 He also went on trial at Juventus before signing for Rangers this season, so must have something about him for them to take notice. Iago Falque is a former Real Madrid, Barcelona, Juventus player and is currently at Tottenham. Saints only felt he was worthy of a 56 minute appearance.

Davis has been one of Rangers most consistant players for the last 2+ years! Was worth £5m just last year when other PL clubs were sniffing about! Id take Davis, Naismith and McGregor happily

Not IMO.

Sonny did absolutely nothing at he dons, hes found some temp form but he's 100% not PL quality

skintsaint Posted 13 May, 2012 Posted 13 May, 2012 Will probably end up at Villa again, with his old manager. He is better than Hammond though and for 2m depending on wages would be a welcome addition to the squad.
itchen_dan Posted 13 May, 2012 Posted 13 May, 2012 Maybe this adds substance to the 5m + CM for Jay Rod rumour? If one of our CM's is included in the deal then it makes sense to bring another one in?
pingwing Posted 13 May, 2012 Posted 13 May, 2012 So long as he passes the personality test he ticks pretty much all the boxes, right sort of age, price and doesn't have the biggest ego (probably). Just hope he would be content to fit into the wage structure.
Glasgow_Saint Posted 13 May, 2012 Posted 13 May, 2012 (edited) Kelvin Davis Curtis Davies Mark Davies Stephen Davis Yes!!! Kevin Davis And Ron too Not forgetting ex captain and SWF hero Andrew Davies Edited 13 May, 2012 by Glasgow_Saint
kpturner Posted 13 May, 2012 Posted 13 May, 2012 Didn't he used to play Centre Half for us before moving to Burnley?
sir woody Posted 13 May, 2012 Posted 13 May, 2012 One good game in 4, not really what you want in the premiership.
SuperSAINT Posted 13 May, 2012 Posted 13 May, 2012 Not to worried what Rangers fans think to be honest. Celtic fans told us Hooiveld was shocking.
SaintAndy14 Posted 13 May, 2012 Posted 13 May, 2012 Would be a very good addition for £2m. I remember Man Utd sniffing around when he was at Villa - perhaps hasn't fulfilled his potential but would be a decent signing.

SuperSAINT Posted 13 May, 2012 Posted 13 May, 2012 Rangers fans i know ALL rate him What kind of central midfielder is he, Glasgow?
funkymojo44 Posted 13 May, 2012 Posted 13 May, 2012 I've not seen him for rangers but I've seen him this season for NI at Windsor park. he's a talented player but I believe this season he's been really poor for rangers in what is a terrible league. I'd say he's a good premiership player but nothing special - and I'd agree with others would he really be much better than Morgan? perhaps as a potential squad player with hammond. If we got him for 2m it would be a solid buy and hopefully he could regain form.
Thedelldays Posted 13 May, 2012 Posted 13 May, 2012 What kind of central midfielder is he, Glasgow? easily one of the best players in glasgow
Glasgow_Saint Posted 13 May, 2012 Posted 13 May, 2012 What kind of central midfielder is he, Glasgow? Hammond type i suppose - just better
saintstr1 Posted 13 May, 2012 Posted 13 May, 2012 IMO he is definately no better than what we got , Morgan , Cork , Chappers & Hammond are all better and living in Scotland I see him most weeks on the telly matches, We need better. Now Gary Hooper that is a different Proposition
Saint Garrett Posted 13 May, 2012 Posted 13 May, 2012 If we are going to bring in players then IMO they need to be first team players who are considerably better than what we have. No point bringing in players who aren't going to automatically be first teamers as the team spirit we have currently will play a huge part next season IMO.
Red And White Barmy Army Posted 13 May, 2012 Posted 13 May, 2012 This is exactly the type of player I DON'T think we need. We can't disrupt the squad by bringing 5/6 average signings - we need to be very careful and bring in the best players we can get in 2/3 select positions, i.e. RM and RB + either a GK or CB or striker if one come's available. I think Cork, Morgan and Hammond all do a very similar job to Davis.

We need to strengthen in CM, Chaplow and Hammond are not Premiership quality ultimately and Morgan/Cork need better quality competition. He excelled at Villa and only got pushed out due to managerial instability. Would be a solid signing at the very least.

Need that kind of experience in our squad. hmm good point but i don't think norwich and swansea have had that much 'experience' in their squad. qpr have on the other hand and were the closest to going down. i think the spirit is more important. And although chaplow and hammond aren't prem 1st team quality, hammond is our captain and both seem quality lads who help to maintain our cohesiveness. I just don't think Davis would be inspired to help the club reach new levels - as you say, he's seen it all before. If it aint broke, don't fix it.
david in sweden Posted 14 May, 2012 Posted 14 May, 2012 We also thought Drogba wasn't worth £2m... actaully I don't know that the fee was a problem, but someone wrote Rupert Lowe didn't like Drogba - because he thought he had a bit of an attitude!
Ivan Katalinic's 'tache Posted 14 May, 2012 Posted 14 May, 2012 actaully I don't know that the fee was a problem, but someone wrote Rupert Lowe didn't like Drogba - because he thought he had a bit of an attitude! Thank god we got Delgado instead.
Lazlo78 Posted 14 May, 2012 Posted 14 May, 2012 I've always thought he was a decent player tbh. No way. Sh*t player whose 36k wages have contributes massively to Pompey's financial woes...

QPR are ahead of Norwich and Swansea since Mark Hughes was appointed - is this down to improved "spirit" or simply a better manager? I don’t buy all this "big names" means a bad team? QPR have been mid-table since Hughes came in!!

This Charming Man Posted 14 May, 2012 Posted 14 May, 2012 actaully I don't know that the fee was a problem, but someone wrote Rupert Lowe didn't like Drogba - because he thought he had a bit of an attitude! Well that's one thing Lowe called correctly. I could've lived with his attitude in return for 50 goals and a £30m sell on fee. Though saying that, Lowe would've sold him for £10m and they would've pay that in monthly instalments of £1.
alpine_saint Posted 14 May, 2012 Posted 14 May, 2012 I wasnt expecting Messi to sign but I was hoping our sights would be a bit higher than Sweaty Premier League players.
Turkish Posted 14 May, 2012 Posted 14 May, 2012 I wasnt expecting Messi to sign but I was hoping our sights would be a bit higher than Sweaty Premier League players. That's what people said about Hooliveld.

Dibden Purlieu Saint Posted 14 May, 2012 Posted 14 May, 2012 actaully I don't know that the fee was a problem, but someone wrote Rupert Lowe didn't like Drogba - because he thought he had a bit of an attitude! Not true, that was Adebayor. Drogba couldn't get a work permit.
Turkish Posted 14 May, 2012 Posted 14 May, 2012 Not true, that was Adebayor. Drogba couldn't get a work permit. Correct. I also recall Strachan saying he had a deal lined up for Saha and Malbranque from Fulham for about £12m and Lowe wouldn't do it because he didn't want to make a rival financially stronger. Thomas Rosiky was another one that we could have got and didn't happen.
