aintforever Posted 13 May, 2012 Share Posted 13 May, 2012 Anywhere past the Watford gap is North IMO. It's good that there is more Southern clubs, we havn't seemed to have done that well up north recently. Loses to Blackpool, Doncaster and Boro spring to mind. My post wasn't directed at yours, but those further up the thread, however, from my perspective, the 'northern' teams in the Prem are Newcastle and Sunderland, and you are in the midlands ! This Charming Man Posted 13 May, 2012 Share Posted 13 May, 2012 Anything North of the Watford gap is the North. The Midlands is purely a term used to describe a region of the North. When asking for directions, you don't hear anyone say "take a left then head Midlands'. It's not North, South, East, West, Midlands. Therefore the Midlands cannot be anything else other than Northern. It's the North. FACT.

badgerx16 Posted 13 May, 2012 Share Posted 13 May, 2012 (edited) If you take a line running approximately due north from Southampton, running through Oxford and terminating at Berwick, the northernmost point in England, the line is 60 miles between Soton and Oxford, ( which is just about as far north as Watford ), and there is approx 270 miles between Oxford and Berwick. The halfway point, which presumably divides the nothern half of the country from the southern half, lies around Sheffield. I don't necessarily agree with all you say, lordswood - but I admire your no-nonsense approach to assigning geographical labels. Not sure my Weston-raised Dad would be entirely happy with the notion that he is a skate, or that Southampton City Council would be happy with this land you've just ceded to Pompey. That said, my fervent belief is that the best bit of Southampton is between the rivers - so you've got a bit of support here
