Radio solent goal jingle

Does anyone have a file of the old solent jingle (early/mid 1990s) that was used to signal a goal had been scored- before the days of live commentary of our games.

Trying to track it down for something and wonder if anyone has any bright ideas.

I remember I used to go round a mates flat on Saturday afternoon and we'd drink some beer and get ready for a night on the town. Whilst doing this we'd listen to the game on Solent. That jingle used to strike fear into our hearts. They should bring it back.

Oh that brings back memories. The crowd noise is still used now - if there's ever a radio advert or kids TV thing that needs a football sound effect it will be that same sound.

As Alpine says, always had the fear when it came on. Or you'd sit there listening to Huey Lewis willing it to come on if we needed an equaliser.

Unlike Alpine I wouldn't be drinking beer. Being ten.

Remember I would run down to tell my Dad the score while he was pottering in the shed. Happy days under Chris Nicholl.

You can keep your live streaming.......

Exactly: that one jingle put the fear in me as a nipper. Definitely a case of less is more. Even then there was only a 1/3 chance the goal would be at our game which just added to the terror and suspense. Probably why certain generations of saints fans turned out the way they have ;)

Anyone remember they started doing second half commentary but couldn't say what game until five past three or something. "And we can now announce we will have second half commentary from The Dell..."

Presumably to maximise ticket sales. Not quite the way now.

Yeh, similar memories. They do use that jingle now days, though without the synthy bit at the end and the way Solent used to blend it seamlessly into whatever track they were playing so that it crept up on you - that was different class.

Don't recall the jingle at the moment, although I'll probably wake up at 3AM and it will come to mind.

I do remember at an earlier stage , Solent used to use the Freewheelers TV theme on their sportsday, is it possible that they used a snippet of that ?

'Music' by John Miles has also been disected at various times since the 80's to give a brief musical interlude, might be worth listening to make sure it hasn't been borrowed from that.

Despite not being from Hampshire, on my oft family holidays to the area (Hampshire and Dorset) I used to love listening to Radio Solent - especially this song they used to play on match days. Loved the song ever since.

I remember it clear as day, and was only born in 88. You'd always wait for the final bit before ****ting yourself, but as soon as you heard "this goal comes from the prmeiership, at the dell"...that was that!

I always remember going with my dad in mid 90's and solent and in the dell they always used to play Blondie-Maria.... Everytime i hear that song, i think of being in the dell, waiting for the teams to come out... Anyone else?

Well probably the ref and linesmen and a few hangers on. Maybe not the ubiquitous, indentikit PR girls that always seem to be there nowadays though.

Funnily enough, I couldn't remember the jingle either but that posted worked!!

The thing I hated was that it all lasted about five bloody minutes in perceived time! :x

I have the goal jingle on an old cassette from when Saints won 4-2 against Charlton on new years day 1990. Now finding the cassette could be the problem as i have it either buried in my shed under loads of junk ( bikes fishing gear and all bloody sorts! ) OR its up in my loft somewhere.

You did well given that song was released in 1999!

Aaah, remember those days well. Sitting in my bedroom as a young teenager on a saturday afternoon with my brother, listening to Grant Coleman playing lots of Beatles songs and willing that jingle to come on, then feeling the hairs on my neck stand up when it did with the anticipation of which way the goal had gone.

What was the other tune they used to play once all the results had come in? Was it ELO or something?

They also played this at The Dell during the 90s a lot before the game. Takes me back there just hearing the opening.
