Going to Dubai for 4 days come the end of the month and was wondering if anyone could give me any ideas/tips on what to do out there (within reason of course in terms of money!).

Will be doing a brunch on friday and looking at drinks at the 7-star hotel along with a meal at the restaurant up 123 floors in a relatively tall building there.

Cheers!

Rolla Residence Bur Dubai??? Oops that'll be fun ;) (Nice rooms used them a lot for visitors back in the days)

MOST IMPORTANT THING TO DO! AFTER IMMIGRATION and BEFORE leaving the Baggage Hall - Go to Dubai Duty Free and buy BEER and any other BOOZE you want for your 4 days. You will NOT be able to buy it in a shop so you can't have a couple of tinnies in your room!

Directly opposite is Imperial Suites Hotel and (I think Staying Alive) Nightclub entrance to the left of the hotel entrance - probably the second biggest HOOKER BAR in Dubai!.

One of my mates knew the club manager from yonks ago in his Dj days so we go there on annual bad taste tours. It's a laugh but the Legendary Seaview Hotel is only 5 minutes away with Mariners Bar and THE Filipino Band. (Note most of us go to those places but NEVER bother with a Chinese Takeaway, Apart from the fact that you need another one 20 minutes later, Rolla are a "Family" oriented place so UNLESS you have booked a DOUBLE room (at extra cost) you will not get any guests past security)

7 Star Hotel - Burj Al Arab. You HAVE to make a reservation at a restaurant and they charge AED 200 (35 quid) straight away on your credit card per person to even get in. You won't get in without an booking there is no "Bar per se" They DO have an amazing Brunch up on the flat wide bit at the top - real OTT Fois Gras, Best Seafood in the world (10 different types of Oysters sort of thing and great wines but you will not get much change from 200 quid a head.

Burj Khalifa - Armani hotel downstairs 10 quid for a single Johnny Walker Red Label Prive Club - that's where some Russian Dude ran up $200,000 CHampagne bill on New Year's Eve. FAR better for a mere mortal is Nero's on about 35th Floor of the Address Downtwon (note NOT Address Dubai Mall) Nice cocktails for a tenner and a stunning view of the Burj AND Dubai Fountain.

You MUST do Desert Safari

Bad Taste Tour of one of Staying Alive, Yorke Hotel or because the music is REALLY good Mariners

Skiing in Mall of the Emirates

Gold Soukh (The proper old one in Deira not the new fangled in door rubbish)

And you simply MUST have a Chicken Handi, Mixed Grill and Roti at Ravis Palace restaurant in Satwa (10 quid for two best damned food (curry) on the planet)

As you're too tight to pay a fiver go find Dubai Saints on Facebook and ping a message, One of us lot will pick it up and be happy to help with more info

Thanks DP.

Going with a couple of friends who have worked out there and one of them gets a good deal on the Rolla hotel. I think they know more of the tourist areas but hey-ho. Has to be done.

And yep, I am too tight for full membership considering I'm more of a lurker these days than a poster so shall look up the Dubai Saints FB page.

Ohio - I wish there were magic carpet rides there!

Dude, if you'd been here last weekend you could have had a lift home from Sandance (Travis, Zane Lowe & Fatboy Slim with me & Eric. We are so sure that's how we got home)

2nd the Gold Soukh (The proper old one in Deira not the new fangled in door rubbish)

Also try the river crossing on the boats, very caotic and funny.

River crossing on the boats hey? Sounds like an idea.

And DP, I sent what you wrote on to my friend and his reply was, "he knows the crack."

Ha ha, quality!

Do you actually live in Dubai? It's just you don't mention it very often.

Yawn.

So don't come then, we won't miss you.

Now, what was that about Slave labour, I guess the UK wasn't built on it either then prior to 1833, and today you don't buy any Sports Goods never kick a football or buy any Apple devices?

ahh 1833, those were the days. although it was a hundred years before any of my family lived in the UK. but I feel u can be British and not support ideals like this.

and no I don't buy apple products, and I make an effort not to buy stuff that's been produced in certain countries, although it's hard these days. but other than that ur defence of slave labour is pretty flawless.

although in real terms money is worth more than thousands of Indian lives so in ur shoes I'd think differently too.

  • 1 month later...

JPT - I've had this conversation before with Phil.

However you have to question the agents in India/Pakistan/Africa etc that sell folk down the river. Plenty of locals in their own country acting as agents saying its great in the middle east, willing to take money upfront and then not caring a jot when reality is a lot different for those that move over.

Anyhows - Dubai!

I think 4 days/nights was the right amount of time to stay there.

Went to a Friday brunch at Warehouse in Le Meridian near the airport. £60 all in, I thought the buffet was very good. A fusion one of Thai and English food. Lots of fresh fish and cravery! Had loads before realisign that we could order main meals and dessert!

Stayed there till ten before hitting Barsti, although I didnt find that place that good - could be tiredness by that point.

Had a look around the Dubai Mall, went to the Burj Khalifa - much better to go to At.mosphere rather than the observation deck.

Burj Al Arab was a little different but good again for pictures and cocktails.

Missed out on the Gold Soukh but did do some sisha in the deira late at night.

Desert Safari - well worth the money. Definitely something to do when there.

Also went to Cavalli and Sensation nightclubs....full of women of the night!

And Phil, I never made it across the road to Staying Alive!

But did go to an Irish Pub called Fibber Macgees!
