I'm after some advise from any 80,s away travellers!

I am trying to find out what colour kit we used against sporting Lisbon in 1981 in the away leg

I know we used our blue away in

The home leg which is strange

But can't find out what colour it was at there's!!

Anyone with a good memory out there!?

European competition used to mean that the visiting side always played in the home colours if I recall. That was why we changed kits at home.

Howard Bowden and Alan Gibson state in their book "Saints in Stripes" that our usual home kit between Aug 1980 and May 1985 was made by Patrick. It was a plain red shirt with a single thick white stripe down the front, and a thinner white stripe running down under the arms. It had a red, white and black collar fearturing a black "V". The shorts were black with a white stripe down each side and the socks were white with 2 red rings at the top. The sponsors during that period were Rank Xerox, Air Florida and Draper Tools. The away kit at the time was identical, but in dark and light blue instead of the red, white and black. I hope this helps the memory recall!

black and white then:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

Home leg obviously, doesn't look like blue and blue though, more red and white with Lisbon in their traditional green/white hoops.

Can't see why there would be any change for the away leg really.

Saints definately were wearing Navy Blue / Sky Blue with sky blue shorts in the home leg, If it had been Red and White shorts would have been black which is possibly why they changed kit

didn't go away leg so not sure what colours were worn by i've got a couple of mates who went so I'll check with them

That's definitely the navy/sky away kit in the pic, the home shorts are black but those aren't, and the socks are too dark to be the white of the home kit as well. The away kit had light blue shorts and socks which match the broad stripe - and the colours on shirt shorts and socks all match and are darker than the white on Sporting's kit.

Given the evidence of people saying we wore the away kit at home, that teams always changed at home in Europe up til the 90s, and the pic showing Saints in their away kit at the Dell, there are plenty of reasons to think we'd have played in the home kit away, with Sporting changing.

tie was dead after 45 minutes

surprised anyone went away unless they went for the beer lol

We paid for the trip before the home leg, with a no refund policy. Flew from Bournemouth on the day of the game and came back on the Thursday. Good trip.

Lol so do you remember what colour we played in or was it that good you forgot?

I think that we played in blue, but can't be sure. Only about 200 there and no segregation in a 50,000 crowd meant we were concentrating on other things at times.
