Ignore lists

who uses them? I've never put anyone on ignore nor would i ever, it's only an internet forum FFS. Do people really take it so seriously that they feel the need to ignore people? It's a little bit odd IMO. So ignore lists, good idea and worth using or a sign of a pompous moron with a massive sense of self importance who really needs to lighten up a bit?

It'd be sweet if the mods could publish league tables of who is getting most ignores and who is doing the most ignoring! They probably won't do cos the mods never do my ideas. That's why i've got them on ignore.

If everyone could pm me lists of who you is ignoring i will compile the league table myselfs! If you can't pm me cos u have me on ignore u can post it on here instead and i will try and come back and read laters!

Edit: Unless i've got you on ignore i won't be able to read it so you'll have to pm pap instead.

Totally pointless anyway. For a poster to get onto an ignore list he needs to p*ss you off somewhat, to do that he(or she) will probably be abrasive, self opinionated or controversial,so someone will always quote the posts when replying and you get to see them anyway.

I actually think the mods have got me on ignores! That is why they is not doing my suggestions like when i suggested SainticonsTM Ltd and when i suggested improvements to swear filters. As a test yesterday i called Hamster a d!ckwad and i got clean away with it and didn't get infracted or anything!

It's actually pretty sweet! I am above the law! If anyone wants to call anyone a d!ckwad but is too scared of getting infracted send me the name of the person by pm and i will call them d!ckwad on your behalfs! The dumb mods will never know!

As we keep being told - Teh Innernetz is Serious Business.

In fact ignore lists are like those red buttons on Pelican crossings, they're just there to give the punter an appearance of control.

When they first appeared in Bitterne High St half of them weren't actually connected, you could push the f*ckers all day long but the lights were on a fixed sequence timer anyway. Read somewhere yesterday that having any control of the vast majority of things affecting your life is one of the great illusions of our time.

I tend to work on the principle that if I am perusing a website such as this, then everyone else is entitled to do the same irrespective of their views !

Sure there are wums and w.ankers in abundance, sure there is drivel heaped upon drivel but if I didn't want to be involved I wouldn't bother !

The ignore function IMHO is a total nonsense because if you don't want to read what somebody has written the just don't read it, the name of the poster is in bold letters at the top of their posting so it's hardly difficult to make a judgement on what you select to read !

So, in answer to the OP's question, yes people do need to lighten up a bit !!

Dont you think it's a bit nobby, to not only put someone on ignore but then to constantly tell them they are on ignore? It smacks of a massive sense of self importance to me.

Who started this thread?

Seriously though, what happens if a thread is stared by someone you have on ignore? Do you not see it until someone replies and then have to guess what the 2nd poster is replying to?

i was wondering that as well

surely if someone is a complete d!ckwad (good word Bearsy!) rather than ignore them isn't it better to see what cr@p they post & laugh at them?

putting them on the ignore list is just like a child having a hissy fit & putting both fingers in their ears shouting "not listening, not listening!"

Have to say that's exactly how I see it.

If you want to ignore someone, then scroll past them or if you can't trust yourself then use the ignore feature, but don't go announcing it. It's as bad as announcing you're flouncing off and retiring from forums FFS.

Using an ignore list is basically admitting that you don't have the ability to moderate your own replies. I'm with Turkish on this one.

Besides, ignoring people also deprives you of the ability to laugh at them.

I had at 5 or 6 posters on ignore for a while, just because every single post annoyed me. However curiosity got the better of me and one by one I removed them from the ignore list.

Same story here - had 3 on ignore but have since un-ignored them. Thought it was important at the time but now I'm more in line with Turkish's view. It's just a forum for exchanging opinions...

Don't use the ignore function myself, I tried it once fleetingly a few years ago but found it more irritating than the purpose I used it for so undone it within a few hours. Although the poster in question at the time went on a post ranting frenzy he did also offer valid argument. It wasn't until I couldn't see the posts and only the responses that I realised it's always worth reading each and everyone's post to see the overall perspective and opinion. Even the most irritating posters can still offer decent contribution to a thread at any time!

Comments on various threads I don't agree with may annoy me from time to time but never felt I've needed to use the ignore function any further, after all I came to this site for opinion and discussion, even if I don't like what I read or the response I may get from time to time!

Yep. Have used it and currently have one person it. The person posts so much drivel that it is a complete waste of time reading it and if I can save a few microseconds by not have to check who is posting and then scroll past it then I will. Of course I still see the odd post when it is quoted by someone else, but the posts don't really irritate me, I just want to avoid them where possible. If I ever see someone quoting something useful from that person then I'll probably unblock them. :)

If people want to ignore certain contributors, its cool with me. And I am probably one of the people that feature most frequently on ignore lists.

I dont understand it though; I keep being cited as being on ignore for posting drive or posting negativity, but for me there is something wrong with people who shrivel when faced with the written word. It indicates some sort of insecurity issue.

In addition to this, posting pleas to stop quoting someone because you then see their posts again, or posting that you have a specific individual on ignore, is some of the most ridiculous and pathetic attention seeking that ever has "graced" this site.

I do have one person on ignore; he did managed to get up my nose with his pompous bigotry a while back, but I often have a sly goosie at his posts and simply cannot be bothered with the effort of deleting him from my ignore list.

I am glad you are not on my ignore list as this shows remarkable insight - you surprize me constantly

I refuse to use ignore, even the worst of contributors can sometimes post something worth reading.

I would rather we had the ability to rate individual, with posts attracting too many negative votes needing to be expanded before they can be viewed. Additionally scores could be accumulated by posters, meaning the number next to your avatar could represent the quality rather than quantity of your posts.

I'm totally aware that the ignore button is irrelevant.

Everybody ignores me all the time automatically

My ex wife ignored everything I ever said

My ex Boss and my current boss never reply to emails

My sister ignored me on my last trip "don't stress Mum out about her Grand Daughter's wedding" Oh no off she went on one telling me how to get somebody onto an airplane

You lot ignore me

The girls at the Checkout counter ignore me

The idiots at the Bank ignore me

Hell, even FMDP ignores me (Hon I am awake at 6am because I need to do my residence visa renewal today, I TOLD you that 5 times this week already, NO I cannot come to the Dentist with you)

I tell you what.

I farking LOVE it.

Everyone Ignores me so I Do what I want.

NOt sure a rating is a good idea, one person's bad is anothers good... and it becomes a popularity contest. I know loads dont read what I post and many who like to think its over blown self important nonsense, who cares, I don't. Opinion is one thing and its all well and good. Anything racist, bigotted (whether cloaked in respectibilty or not) or extremely personal when aimed at family etc is the only thing I would ever report - the rest is down to arguing your case/POV... give as good as you get and dont let the cyber bullies, WUMs etc have th last word;)
