st marys to expand?

I think I heard/read that if we stay up next year, then we'll add 3 extra tiers in the close season. That to me seemed somewhat ambitions though, that would leave something like 8 weeks to build 3 new stands...

If we stay up and consolidate, it will happen. That doesn't mean we're destined for CL football though ;)

Well seeing as we're bigger than Man City, Man Utd, Chelsea, Arsenal and Liverpool - it would make sense that our ground is bigger than theirs to truly reflect that.

It would be embarrassing having Champions League football in a poxy 32k seater stadium, plus we need the additional room to house the thousands of Japanese tourists that will flock to watch us after we play a friendly over there.

true, but we cant pass up the chance to improve, unlike after 2003 cup final lessons must be learnt

You're going to get a lot worse than that on this thread. You're going to get 10 pages of deluded drivel from the usual suspects.

And can you please write your responses to the quotes underneath them. It's much more pleasing on the eye. Ta.

We will improve the stadium if we stay in the league, I'm sure of that.

It's all about evolution really. We don't want to run before we can walk....but as has been their remit from the moment they came in the door, it was to rebuild this club in a steady and structured way. So it's a logical step to make if we establish ourselves back in the league.

Stadium expansion is a good talking point, as Swansea have also filed for permission to increase their capacity to 30k+. Wolves also did the same but may live to regret that decision....

It's all about striking the right balance but I think we need to establish ourselves back before we commit millions into expansion. Cortese will make the right call whatever though.

This is very funny. You're always very funny. Without you and Turkish this forum would be terribly humdrum.

I'd love to see the two of you on your own TV series on BBC3, it would probably be the best show on the telly ever.

On the basis that this thread is actually serious, can you take a look at your opening post and clarify the question so it is clear what we are all being asked? "We're" and "were" mean different things by the way.

would just like to know what saints fans like myself feel, undr last owners/halfwits when under wgs we really had the chance to push on, dont want our club to make the same mistake again, not intrested in flippant remarks just honest opinions from saint loving fans, thats all

You just know it. Still can't work out exactly what the O/P is asking though.

Seems quite simple, are we going to expand (1) now or (2) next year? Answer, (1) probably not and (2) possibly if we stay up.

Oddly enough it would probably have made more sense to do some work this year because we have a longer break due to the Lympics.

The answer to are we going to expand now is a bit more certain than "probably not" isn't it? Unless they're sneaking a few cranes and bulldozers into St Marys as we speak? Edited by Sour Mash

Ignoring the pointless, endless expansion argument itself and focusing on the practicalities, I somehow doubt they'd have spent the money upgrading the turnstiles in the Northam before the Reading match (I assume they've done it everywhere else in the ground as well but haven't checked) to use the new smart cards if they were going to replace it within months.

What personal stuff? I don't even know you to write anything personal about you. Your opening question wasn't clear to put it mildly. Are you asking if we are going to start expansion work now?

Sorry mate. Didn't mean to go off topic. Incidentally, your humility is positively inspiring. We should meet up, I'd love to buy you a pint. Plus I'd get the chance to learn how to be more like you.

Back on topic..... Consolidation then construction.

I'm sure I read a quote from Nicola Cortese saying that it would be more cost effective to build a new stadium than expand the existing one.

But yes, I'm sure if we stay in the PL that we will have a larger stadium one way or the other. I see no reason why we wouldn't sell out, seeing as we used to pretty much every league game when we were in the PL previously.

Could you do it for me? Please? You're my favourite poster on here.

I'm really thrilled at being your favourite poster. I don't post much these days because of all the ****s on here who ruin it for everyone. If only there were more inspiring individuals like yourself who could set an example to those others.

But I shan't be reading aloud for you; that's your Mummy's job, isn't it.

Ah gutted! I do agree though, so many *****s that ruin it for the rest of us! Why can't that add interesting, well thought out contributions to threads like you have with this one?

I think we should actually knock St Marys down and build a much smaller stadium that only those who have been to every game for the last 10 years can go. That way we will never get to the CL will get less income worse players and quickly drop down the leagues maybe get sold to a group of fans never produce good kids because we cant afford the academy and then finally end up in the blue spuare south.

At least then certain people would be happy cos no point in doing anything remotely positive with this club as the real fans couldnt handle it.

And to top it all off we could play the skates every year. Happy days.

All I can do is try and learn from the more senior posters like yourself.

Your input on this thread has been quite motivational for me. In particular, the respectful way that you asked the OP for clarification as to his question and the sensitive manner of your subsequent follow up points. Have you ever considered putting yourself forward as a potential moderator?

I believe that it has been made public that we ARE expanding the Stadium during THIS close season.

Well, The Corporate is being "Revamped" so by definition IF they add just one more seat in just one of the boxes, then the capacity has been increased

I'm always getting approached to become a mod, but I prefer to remain simply "one of the people". I'm very humble like that.

Why the abuse and anger? I simply asked to clarify the question, was it really that much to ask?

sorry if already posted, but are we going to increase size of our ground now were promoted, or do we see what happens next season?

in other words , do our owners go for it now?

Would have thought it's in our interest to do it soon if we can get the go ahead. I though we had the stadium built so that it could be extended to 48,000 if required. The only issue I could see is potential traffic gridlock and oarking problems.

which i did, you have not even said anything about the post, ie should saints make st marys bigger, ur more intrested in taking the mick out of others because you have nothing sensible to say, i asked a decent question to be debated, but fools like you would rather try and be a keyboard king.

i actually feel sorry for you

I think you'll find if you can get over your anger, that I am one of the few posters to actually answer your question (see post 19). If this is your reaction to someone asking you to clarify your question, then I'd hate to see your reaction if someone actually took the p**s out of you (which I'm also happy to do, just to be clear).

Anyone mentioned our gigantic catchment area yet?

Granted half of it is seawater and another third is a forest but the rest of it is the biggyest most massivest catchment area in the whole wide world and everything.

And yes, I am including Shepton Mallett.
