Thorpe-le-Saint Posted 7 May, 2012 Share Posted 7 May, 2012 Afternoon, Has anyone gone through the process of trying to claim back their PPI payments? If so, any tips etc? Cheers
bridge too far Posted 7 May, 2012 Share Posted 7 May, 2012 My SiL has finally got his paid back after months and months of hassle. He claimed directly from Lloyds and they didn't pay up within their stated time frame. So they paid him an additional (generous) sum in compensation. Don't go to one of those companies that advertise on TV though - they're a rip off.
Depressed of Shirley Posted 7 May, 2012 Share Posted 7 May, 2012 Look at sites like moneymadesimple or money madeclear. They will have instructions and wordings for letters to complain to your lender. As above, you do not need a PPI claim company to do this.
andysstuff Posted 7 May, 2012 Share Posted 7 May, 2012 Any ideas how long you can claim back for?
Saint-scooby Posted 7 May, 2012 Share Posted 7 May, 2012 As stated above the PPI companies are a rip off, do a search of the above, plus moneysupermarket its all there.

sunrise Posted 7 May, 2012 Share Posted 7 May, 2012 I sent my claim off last week, the form is fairly straightforward to complete, mine ran to 8 pages, but a fair few were multiple choice questions - i.e tick the answer most applicable to your situation. At the end, you had to a sentence or 2 why you feel PPI was misold to you. There was something on one of the news channel last week about the PPI reclaiming companies, apparently they are no more successful in reclaiming PPI than an individual doing it themselves. After all its your money, why should a middleman gobble some of it up.
SOTONS EAST SIDE Posted 7 May, 2012 Share Posted 7 May, 2012 http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/reclaim/ppi-loan-insurance - How to do it yourself.I used MSE for my example letters, and got £4300 back from HFC who were stalling, till i told them i was sending a list of the phone calls and copys of their correspondence to the Financial ombudsman. They quickly paid out!!!
hamster Posted 7 May, 2012 Share Posted 7 May, 2012 How does someone know if they have had any ppi's? Whenever we've had any loans, cards, mortgages etc, we've declined. Is the main issue that people weren't even aware that they've been paying for it?

Is the main issue that people weren't even aware that they've been paying for it? I think a lot of people were told that they could only have their loans if they took out PPI. And yet PPI wouldn't have been valid given their circumstances. e/g/ my SiL was a student so illness or redundancy wouldn't have applied to him. Also, if you had other insuranceds or good sick pay, PPI wouldn't have been paid out because they never paid out if there were other arrangements in place
