New 5 year Plan

Why do you think it is we aren't building now though? Cortese expected promotion back in September. He's done the studies and we all know how amazing our attendances were in 2004/05 when we were rubbish.

As I said survival is a must this year. I cant see us actually expanding if we get relegated in the first year. Planning may happen regardless?

Why? Wolves have just been relegated and they are expanding. Their chairman is only worth £200m or something, ours is worth £3b. We already get bigger crowds than Wolves.

We get bigger crowds than them though. As pointed out we will be one of the top 12 supported teams in the divison and could have more than Everton if only we had a ground big enough. Why aren't we expaning right now? All the evidence is there and has been presented by our "intellegent posters"

Forgetting the detail for one minute, anyone who doubts NC's determination to lead Saints into the top half of the Prem and potentially beyond must have been living permanently in a secluded cave for the last three years. The five year plan remains - individual targets will have been moved by necessity. I have no doubt SMS will be expanded or a new stadium built (from the horses mouth) - the timing of this will not be apparent until we have performed in the Prem with the revitalised squad decided over this summer. Planning may start as early as January 2013 if things look really encouraging - but we'll not know of course until the construction starts or it's announced on the OS.

I agree with this. There are quite a few people on here who have put forward a number of reasons as to why we should expand right away. Yet Cortese isn't despite no Idoubt also being aware of the fact we sold out against Bolton in 2005 and Wolves expanding and averaged 30k in our relegation season. These self titled "intellgent posters" are clearly doubting Corteses ambition because we are not expaning now despite all the evidence they have to support it. What is evident is that Cortese shares the view of the "retarded logic" posters. Who maybe want to see if we can sell out every week first in the premier league.

You said you agreed with Saint Fan CaM when he said he thought they'd wait and see how we perform in the Prem before making a decision.

Not sure why you are quizzing me on this?

We don't need to expand in the championship. If we stay in the Prem then we do IMO.

No we don't. According to Turkish, if a stadium sells out then every single person who wanted a ticket got one. So if 36000 want a ticket, as long as they all try very very hard they will all get a ticket within St Marys despite it only actually holding 32,500.

But that's neither here or there because Turkish knows that only a few people actually miss out on tickets when we do sell out. He knows this because he doesn't know anyone who hasn't been able to get a ticket and his wife worked at the ticket office 7 years ago and told him so.

It's only since our relegation to league one we have suddenly now need a huge, massive stadium for when we get back to the premier league to cope with this demand that is going to appear from Man U fans in Epsom and 5,000 new fans in Trowbridge that weren't there 7 years ago.

I know you are being sarcastic and probably agree with me on most things regarding the expansion but its just unfortunate for Wolves that they have a expanded their stadium ready for year 1 in the championship. Notice how they have abruptly stopped the second and third phases of their expansion plans now that they are relegated though. Prem survival is paramount IMO and NC seems to be waiting to see if that can be achieved for us first.

7 years ago we were a side that had been in the top flight for 28 years and had lowe in charge. This season we will see Prem football for the first time in 7 years after back to back promotions and have NC in charge. Surely that might make a difference to sales? Come August/September we'll see if we are selling out every game, I think yes.

However, its still not worth expanding for one season in the Prem.

This is of course correct. Turkish's response is I'm sure aimed at the likes of MLG and co who have consistently stated the need for a much bigger stadium, right now. MLG himself has previously stated that now is the right time to get building a new super stadium, and even that it should have been built to coincide with the start of our first season in the Premier League. Most people recognise the need to prove demand first and get a really good idea on what the level of demand actually is. And most people won't rule out a bigger stadium in the next few years if the level of support justifies it; they're just loathe to doing it right now and relying either on spurious figures that are 10 years old as evidence, or a leap of faith that "build it and they will come".

IMO the only point of discussion is how much we need to expand by. I think around the 38K mark should suffice. I'm not saying we will sell out every week but for big games we should sell out a stadium that size.

Any business which turns customers away has an opportunity to expand. You can pick individual games in isolation but the fact remains that we did regularly sell out St Marys when we were last in the prem......yes not every game, but alot.

If the club has more of an ambition to do more than just survive every year then the potential is even greater.

Stay up over the next 2-3 years and I can see expansion being viable, as do the club, as do many fans.

The funny thing is the only FACT we have about this is 'we are not going to expand right now or anytime soon'. This is because planning applications are on the public domain and no such application has been submitted. So even it went in tomorrow someone quite right has already said it could take months for it to be granted.

And as I say, that's the point. Right now, knowing what we know at this point in time, it would be madness to expand the stadium. Could we get more people into the ground on matchdays? Probably. Do we have any accurate idea right now as to how many more we would consistently attract? No, unless you use numbers from 10 years ago as facts. All we do know is that we were 6,000 short of capacity last year and that the lure of the Premier League will likely take that number upwards, potentially towards the levels perviously seen in that division, potentially more, potentially less.

Unfortunately that has been rather difficult to accept for some who have clung to the belief that a vague statement or two from the CEO is evidence of the fact that the builders are on their way without performing any form of due diligence.

We don't even need to guess the reasons why NC hasn't already got the plans in, its just the fact he hasn't tells us that he is only assessing the issue. And we know he is assessing the issue because he has publically said that he'd like to expand in the dinners and we dont see many other chairman saying that who have no intention of expanding.

NC is a businessman and it does seem as though he does want to see some Prem action before making up his mind (makes business sense).

"NC is ambitious so he must have done....."

To be fair, I'd be massively surprised if he hasn't at least looked at what is feasibile in terms of stadium expansion and just how big the stadium could be allowed to go under current planning regulations (especially so as St Mary's was designed with potential future expansion in mind).

Not if they are a Liverpool fan!

But I don't see why we shouldn't aim and indeed plan to become bigger than clubs like Everton. Our potential fan base is massive. I'm particularly looking forward to the sons (and daughters) of current PFC fans coming to watch us as they grow up, with PFC 2013 ltd playing in non-league.

Lol good luck with that - Designers of High Speed 2 will blow you if you can get them permission within 13 weeks. Good Lords. You are either and amazing troll or an overoppinionated no nothing. A football stadium is not a house. They have to consider the extra 10-15k people that will be flooding southampton which can't handle traffic for west Quay as it is, let alone when a large crusie ship is in. There is not enough parking, policing is an issue. Noise levels. How does it fit into their development plan for the city since developing St Mary's comes after the exisitng 20year plan.... My god, I mean, do you imagine that the Hindhead tunnel was submitted and approved within 13weeks? ARE YOU FOR REAL? High speed 2 - Hi guys, we are just gonna put 20 trains an our 50metres behind you back garden fence, you don't mind do you? You do? well that is unlucky... Its going to be approved in 13weeks and your house price just went down 90%!!! Enjoy!!!!!

Once the plans are submitted...it takes 13 weeks for the committee to make a decision.

No, no, no you just don't get it do you!? We have ambition now which we've never head before. We've never had top 2 finishes, european tours, cup finals and wins and long periods in the top flight. We've also never had the chance to mop up fans from all over the south coast of england and possibly France.

What we have for the first time in our history is ambition and resources. I will say it again so you understand, ambition AND resources.

That means we have potential to grow that we have never had before, that's POTENTIAL to grow.

That is the point some are trying to get across to the dell brains. We can be bigger than we were before.

Are you seriously comparing a stadium expansion in a single unitary authority with a major national infrastructure project that goes through about five separate counties and a decent wedge of green belt?

How much ambition, resource and potential to grow did we have when we finished 2nd to one of the best sides this country has ecer produced. when we signed the European footballer of the year, England goalkeeper and best one in the world and almost signed Trevor Francis who was the most expensive player of his era?

We were still limited by the Dell though, if we had billionaire owners then we probably would have won the league, at least once. And that stadium on Western Esplanade would have been built.

Understand now? Ambition AND resources.

Once upon a time.

Somebody asked a hypothetical question.

Is it possible to make the owners of Man Citeh look stupid? What would it really take?

Strangely, they did not bother to ask that question of a fans forum.

But they did ask an awful lot of people.
