Ian the Red Posted 5 May, 2012 Posted 5 May, 2012 Last night we went to the Players Awards dinner but unfortunately our friends were unable to go as their 8 year old son was admitted to hospital during the afternoon. They asked us if we could get Danny Fox, Ben's favourite player, to write a get well message, which we thought we would be able to do. When we were talking with Danny he said no problem and was delighted to write a message. When we explained the situation he was genuinely concerned and said if he can do anymore just let him know. Later in the evening we started talking to Danny again and he remembered our earlier conversation and again said he would like to help and prehaps visit Ben in hospital. He gave us his mobile number and after a few texts this morning Danny contacted our friends and arranged to visit Ben on Sunday. Much to everyones surprise Danny turned up this afternoon to see Ben together with Adam Lallana and a signed shirt. It really was a lovely thing for Danny to do; our friends are needless to say, very worried and Danny's and Adam's visit lifted everyones spirits. Ben is doing very well and hopefully everything is moving in the right direction. Just thought it was worth posting to show that our players do have caring side and are willing to try to help others. Top bloke Danny Fox!!
wightman35 Posted 5 May, 2012 Posted 5 May, 2012 A lovely story. Hope that the little one makes a good recovery. Well done the players.
Give it to Ron Posted 5 May, 2012 Posted 5 May, 2012 That is brilliant stuff from him and shows not all footballers are total cnts
trousers Posted 5 May, 2012 Posted 5 May, 2012 Thanks for sharing this heartwarming story Ian. Thoughts are with Ben and his family
doughnutman Posted 5 May, 2012 Posted 5 May, 2012 That story bought a smile to my face. I hope that the club continues to bring in characters like this
ooh it's a corner Posted 5 May, 2012 Posted 5 May, 2012 that's brilliant to hear. I'd like to think that "The Southampton way", extends to behaving like this. Good job chaps abd hope Ben is on the mend.
beatlesaint Posted 5 May, 2012 Posted 5 May, 2012 What a great thing for the players to do. Lovely story. Get well soon Ben.
St Chalet Posted 5 May, 2012 Posted 5 May, 2012 What a nice story. Very proud to support a club that has such genuine players. Hope Ben gets well soon. Thanks to the OP for sharing.
sotonjoe Posted 5 May, 2012 Posted 5 May, 2012 All this from the bloke who was waving his willy around in the street last Sunday evening. What a guy.
doddisalegend Posted 5 May, 2012 Posted 5 May, 2012 (edited) Fair play to the bloke nice story....I won't tell my kids though they'll start feigning injuries and asking to go to hospital hoping that Rickie Lambert and Jack Cork show up bring saints gifts... Edited 5 May, 2012 by doddisalegend
Alright Dave Posted 5 May, 2012 Posted 5 May, 2012 Excellent to hear! I really think we have a great group here. Hope your friends lad is on the mend and back home soon.
hamster Posted 5 May, 2012 Posted 5 May, 2012 Kindness costs nothing and means everything. Nice touch.
THEVMAN Posted 5 May, 2012 Posted 5 May, 2012 Kindness costs nothing and means everything. Nice touch.Totally agree two normal blokes doing something that they know would mean so much to someone else.Get well soon Ben.
kwsaint Posted 5 May, 2012 Posted 5 May, 2012 It's stuff like this that make me think that Southampton Football Club is the best in the world. May be a bit biased though. Anyway, get well soon Ben. Top Stuff
farehamsaintpete Posted 5 May, 2012 Posted 5 May, 2012 That explains why I saw them in the Saints shop in West Quay earlier buying a shirt..........and last Saturdays match day programme. Well done to both and hope their visit has helped young Ben.
Nigel=God-Poyet=Sod Posted 5 May, 2012 Posted 5 May, 2012 Lovely story. Just shows that, despite what some may think and say, not all footballers are greedy selfish people. Good honest guys at our club. Lovely gesture from decente people. Hope Ben is on the mend.
Asaint4ever Posted 5 May, 2012 Posted 5 May, 2012 Legend! Love the bloke! Hope the lads gets well soon x
Under Weststand Posted 5 May, 2012 Posted 5 May, 2012 Well done to both players & especially Danny fox for making it happen. I hope that Ben makes a quick recovery, he will be so made up from the visit, and will be a big boost for him & his family.
dubai_phil Posted 5 May, 2012 Posted 5 May, 2012 It really is beginning to sink in that this club and those within in it really seems to be becoming something quite special. What a great story, well done guys
RobM Posted 5 May, 2012 Posted 5 May, 2012 My best wishes to Ben and his family. A cracking gesture from both Danny and Adam, true Saints for sure. Simply writing a message would have made Ben's day I'm sure - as it would most Saints fans - but to go out of their way is just brilliant. Huge respect.
miserableoldgit Posted 5 May, 2012 Posted 5 May, 2012 It is a heart-warming story and testament to what NA is trying to do with the players that he brings in. The attitude is as important as the ability. Long may it continue. It is "The Southampton Way!". I really hope that the lad gets better. I know how I would feel if it was one of my grandchildren.
BadgerBadger Posted 5 May, 2012 Posted 5 May, 2012 What a lovely touch, well grounded non prententious players. Hope the nipper bounces back to health quickly, thoughts go out to the parents.
Lazlo78 Posted 5 May, 2012 Posted 5 May, 2012 Nice story, thanks for sharing. Hope it gets a happy ending!
saints-cris Posted 5 May, 2012 Posted 5 May, 2012 Fair play, amazing gesture. Good to see we have genuinely nice people playing for us
Wilf Posted 5 May, 2012 Posted 5 May, 2012 Get well soon Ben, Well done to Danny & Adam for a fantastic gesture.
Delboy Dave Posted 5 May, 2012 Posted 5 May, 2012 They bought the shirt too? This story gets better and better. Top top stuff lads, awesome!
paulwantsapint Posted 5 May, 2012 Posted 5 May, 2012 Tell Ben to get well soon Top result from Danny Fox & Adam Lallana to go out of their way to make a young fans hospital stay a less bad experience It's this type of small gesture by players that make a massive impression
Fitzhugh Fella Posted 6 May, 2012 Posted 6 May, 2012 Good story - my opinion of Fox has just gone up a notch or two
CeeBee Posted 6 May, 2012 Posted 6 May, 2012 What a heartwarming story. Fantastic gesture from Danny and Adam. Best wishes for a speedy recovery to Ben.
Saint_clark Posted 6 May, 2012 Posted 6 May, 2012 A great story, but when I read this... Danny turned up this afternoon to see Ben together with Adam Lallana and a signed shirt. ...I thought you were going to say that Fox got annoyed Lallana had stolen his thunder.
LeBenali Posted 6 May, 2012 Posted 6 May, 2012 Great story, really nice to hear the players do things such as this off their own back & not just for publicity.
