jawillwill Posted 5 May, 2012 Share Posted 5 May, 2012 Seeing as it's FA Cup final day (yeah, I only just realised this morning too!), what are your favourite Saints-related FA Cup memories? Obviously, pretty much everyone is going to refer to either '76 or '03 finals, so for the purposes of this thread we will assume these 2 matches don't count. So, what are your faviourite FA Cup non-final memories? For me it has to be Crouch's last minute penalty v Pompey.
saints_is_the_south Posted 5 May, 2012 Share Posted 5 May, 2012 Two from the 2003 run to the final for me. 4-0 win against Spurs at St Mary's, we gave them a proper footballing lesson that night and arguably Saints best ever performance at St Mary's to date. Kevin Davies 89th minute equaliser against Millwall in the 4th Round, you could sort of feel that maybe it was our year for a cup run when that went in. sfcsfcsfc Posted 5 May, 2012 Share Posted 5 May, 2012 Yes, although still only a worthy runner up to Moran 1984. only if you would rather beat pompey than actualy win the FA cup but both goals stand out for me, not forgetting wee Bobby Stokes effort
Badger Posted 5 May, 2012 Share Posted 5 May, 2012 (edited) only if you would rather beat pompey than actualy win the FA cup but both goals stand out for me, not forgetting wee Bobby Stokes effort The original post did say most memorable other than the finals of 1976 and 2003, hence no mention of "..Stokes, he's onside...one -nil" as David Coleman described it. As for Hugh Fishers equaliser, you can only really judge the moment as it was at the time, not in hindsight. So unless you had the benefit of clairvoyance in the 92nd minute of the match v Villa and knew instantly where it would lead, it was at the time a great equaliser in stopage time. Moran on the other hand, at Fratton..last kick of the game.. Fishers goal was quite memorable for me for private reasons, as my late father was a big fan of Hugh Fisher (if only to cause healthy debate in our house about the more illustrious members of the side I banged on about, ie Channon,Osgood, Steele..). batterseasaint Posted 6 May, 2012 Share Posted 6 May, 2012 Spurs away, 1990, 3-1 win, great day This. Thoroughly enjoyed that day and if I remember rightly, it was Venables' birthday which was ruined my Matty and Jimmy Case, who put in an imperious display in midfield. My favorite individual moment was the goal that sealed it for us v Watford at Villa Park, and the realization that we were off to the final. In my appraisal at work that year, my boss actually commented on my lack of performance at work for about a month, and he openly said he thought the reason for this was my pre-occupation with Saints' cup run. He was a lifelong Fulham fan so he kind of understood.

I loved teh build up to, but watching buses leave sw anky hotels ...well it was scraping the barrel somewhat in terms of what made facinating viewing? saints triumph Posted 7 May, 2012 Share Posted 7 May, 2012 Blackburn away fa cup. Was live on tv and I decided to go to the game as I was living in Blackpool at the time. Thought I would be 1 of a hundred or so hardy Saints soles there, but to my surprise and delight there were nearly 3000. And to make it all worthwhile Armstrong got the winner in a 1-0 win. Also the televised away game at sheffield wednesday when 10000 Saints fans watched a 0-0 draw.
