Turkish Posted 4 May, 2012 Share Posted 4 May, 2012 Not that you'd know it. As a kid was the highlight of the year and in many ways more important to win than the league. Always seemed to be a hot day and the last day of the season. Look at it now, shoved to a 5.15 kick off 2 games before the end of the season. Almost been forgotten about. Its a bloody disgrace. Hatch Posted 5 May, 2012 Share Posted 5 May, 2012 hardly registers any more. I could name all the winners from 1970 to about 1989. I havent got a clue who won it last year.

Badger Posted 5 May, 2012 Share Posted 5 May, 2012 As you say, its a disgrace that a game that used to be the pinnacle and showpiece of the season is now just a minor detail. I didn't know until yesterday that it was being played today, but then again our time out of the Prem has allowed me to try and ignore the Liverpools and Chelseas with their overpaid mercenaries. The fact it is such a boring fixture does not help, always better with a Wimbledon, Saints, or Sunderland than two predictable juggernauts going through the motions yet again. Presumably it will be on ITV with Adrian - rubber faced Brummie **** - presenting it, so well worth giving it a miss. All this has been brought about by the FA prostituting the Cup, and ITV's crap coverage.

ecuk268 Posted 5 May, 2012 Share Posted 5 May, 2012 It was a big day when I was a nipper. Hardly any live footy then so we avidly watched the build-up from about midday. The FA's killed it by playing it during the season and letting every man and his dog play at Wembley for all sorts of less important games. bpsaint Posted 5 May, 2012 Share Posted 5 May, 2012 It's only this year it's being played during the season It was played on the same day as Prem fixtures last season too. With the exception of the 2005 final I always find it a boring game, usually a 1-0 as both teams are so edgy.
Big John Posted 5 May, 2012 Share Posted 5 May, 2012 Not been the same since they started playing it in foreign soil, even worse when they let a foreign team play in the final. a final i might add that in might book is null and void for that very reason. hate the idea of foreign teams in english leagues. i would replace one of them with berwick rangers for a start. Playing the semi-finals at Wembley was always going to devalue the spectacle of the final. How the FA doyens (or dickheads) could not see that is beyond me. Leicestersaint Posted 5 May, 2012 Share Posted 5 May, 2012 The FA is absolutely hopeless and run by silly old men who are motivated by money and greed. What has happened to the greatest cup competition in the world is a national disgrace.

saints_is_the_south Posted 5 May, 2012 Share Posted 5 May, 2012 Agree with all of the comments on here. If the FA want to put any value back into FA Cup Final day then they should: A) Ensure it is the last domestic game of the season. B) Make it a 3pm Saturday kick off. C) Not allow Premier League, or any other domestic matches to be played on the same day. D) Not play the Semi Finals at Wembley. Move them back to Old Trafford and Villa Park. Or even the Emirates could be used now. But they won't, sigh.
Mattio Posted 5 May, 2012 Share Posted 5 May, 2012 (edited) That opening was horrendous, Hard Fi droning away with some weird dancers with red clingfilm on their face... in 10 years football will have 4 quarters and two teams, one for attack and one for de-fence Edited 5 May, 2012 by Mattio

Also when are they going to stop with Muamba stuff zzzzzz The bloke is an absolute helmet. His sole qualifiction for being a football presenter is that he claims to be a West Brom fan. It's not like he is even any good at it.
toofarnorth Posted 5 May, 2012 Share Posted 5 May, 2012 Well we shouldn't be too worried about having to play teams like Liverpool next year. They really are a cautionary tale for reckless spending on useless players

Another item to bring back the "magic", is to have the draw on a Monday lunchtime again. Nothing beats a full days guessing and thinking about the possible draw to build up the excitement. Now of course its done by two low grade celebs, and the ****s on tv think we are going to be impressed.
