dune Posted 3 May, 2012 Share Posted 3 May, 2012 http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-17940539 It's all very well saying they're gonna refund me, but what about my airport parking that i've paid for?
dune Posted 3 May, 2012 Author Share Posted 3 May, 2012 Oh FFS, it gets worse, I ring up and get through to an Indian call centre, and when I asked to be put through to an English office was informed that the Derby office doesn't have a telephone. Un-****ing-believeable.

CHAPEL END CHARLIE Posted 3 May, 2012 Share Posted 3 May, 2012 Well think how much worse it would be if your airliner was going down. Then you'd really have something to moan about ..... if only for a few minutes as you plummet earthwards.
RonManager Posted 3 May, 2012 Share Posted 3 May, 2012 Just pare it back to where the split is, re-fit the connector, tighten up the re-positioned jubilee clip and you're away again.

dune Posted 3 May, 2012 Author Share Posted 3 May, 2012 Right, that's new flights booked - 420 quid FFS, and airport parking cancelled. Who's best for airport parking at Gatwick (sensible answer please you muppets)?

buctootim Posted 3 May, 2012 Share Posted 3 May, 2012 (edited) North Go to purpleparking.com and select Meteor Meet & Greet - they meet you at the terminal and take the car away, and on return call them from the baggage hall and they meet you outside. Its about £10 more than the usual long stay but worth it for less hassle imo. If you dont want valet parking then the official long stay one is the next best option. The short stay is hideously expensive and most of the independents are miles from the terminal. If you really want to save cash there are some nice quiet residential streets about a mile from the terminal. Ive done it once, just park up and call a cab, Edited 3 May, 2012 by buctootim

Who's best for airport parking at Gatwick (sensible answer please you muppets)? Just a point, as it is Gatwick, what about the Train? Guess it depends where you are based but I actually had to use the train last summer from the Airport to near Portsmouth and booking online it was surprisingly cheap and frequent

Lighthouse Posted 3 May, 2012 Share Posted 3 May, 2012 Last time I went from Southampton to LGW I used the train. I only went one way but it was £10, no changes and I avoided the M25 etc. Much cheaper and easier. Bit late for that now I guess.

Good choice - I always choose the official long stay at Gatwick and have never had any kind of hassle or delay

Kingsbridge Saint Posted 4 May, 2012 Share Posted 4 May, 2012 If you're in the long stay car park at Gatwick and over 6ft 6in you will need to duck when planes come in to land.

The Cat Posted 4 May, 2012 Share Posted 4 May, 2012 Nah... drive to Hassocks, park outside some locals house for nothing and catch a train up to Gatwick. Easy. Yep. Why pay for airport parking when there are roads to park on for free? I always do that at Bristol, just park in the nearest village and walk 10 minutes up to the terminal. dune Posted 4 May, 2012 Author Share Posted 4 May, 2012 (edited) Just rang them up and remained calm with the pidgeon english speaking call centre dimwit despite him not understanding the letter B (is that V for violet, no it's B for Banana you f/cking idiot...). He informed me that i'd be automatically refunded, so I said shouldn't he at least check and it turned out they'd only cancelled the return flights. Not had any email confirmation or anything. I doubt they've even done anything because from experience foreign call centres are a waste of time. Really poor service considering IAG own BMI and they are the owners of BA. Who's best for airport parking at Gatwick (sensible answer please you muppets)? Sounds like you're sorted but for anybody else I usually stay the night before at the Moat House and then it's £6 per 24 hours in a covered car park with cctv. Don't often pay over £60 for the night and it's a relaxing start...not great if you've got a night flight I suppose and there are better hotels but the package is good.
