South-coast pendulum swings Southampton's way

Good read. Do any other rivals always have such consistently contrasting fortunes?? We never seem to both be doing well/badly!

Helps make the games more special as they don't come around to often....I suppose if we had to South coast games every season they might lose a bit of the fun (or maybe not).

Still proper order in the universe has been restored with us back on top.....for what looks like some years to come.

Erm... Some guy in the Saints Picture at the top of the article has an Arsenal phone cover....

What the ****!? Glory-Seeking c*nt.

Yep that has been pointed out...funny how the picture of our fans is all kids, scarves, flags and face paint and pompeys is a load of blokes giving it large....

"Ultimately, both these south coast clubs have enjoyed similar highs at different times in their recent history. The difference, perhaps, is that when they were rocked to their foundations, Southampton's building blocks proved sturdier."

By implication the fans.

And in our fans' photo, there is some kid with a red and white wig and face paint.

This is disgusting. He is letting down the whole club. I am proud of my club, but rival fans will be laughing at us. I am ashamed to support a club with such fans. ;)

I do not see this, I can see 2 kids in the Southampton pic and 1 in the skates one! But we are a family club, and the club with a bright future!

and look at their reputation in the media as the most passionate fans in the country. So there is some truth in it. Thanks for proving the point.

Its trivial stuff, the writer has missed the point that Saints were bought by a straight dealer of integrity and Portsmouth fell into the hands of as succession of criminals, nothing similar in that

So that is youyr ambition to be classed as a most passionate fan....ok you can dress up as Westwood then next season...or alternatively make your way down the M27 ...if you have a tenner you could be their owner by next week as well.

So often these "articles" turn out to be a few sentences that a 10 year old could put together in 5 minutes. Standard of "journalism" on the BBC and elsewhere is so poor these days with people trying desparately to fillsports web pages and blogs. Given the author couldn't even be bothered to find out how to spell Markus it just shows how pathetic it is.

The difference between the clubs is that whilst we have had the odd clown running us Pompey have been devoid of decent ownership for more than 40 years.

I honestly can't ever remember a time when Pompey was run by a competent person, the club has always been operated on a short term take-the-money-now basis and it's finally caught up with it.

Although Lowe tried his hardest the club came through admin and now finds itself with a decent stadium, a superb academy, a strong fan base and a long term strategy.

Pompey are at least a decade behind us IMO.

A pendulum swings back and forth. How is that relevant when we dominated for decades then they sacrificed their future to temporarily steal the limelight and ensure we'd dominate for decades more?

ironic....their big cup win that the pro redknapp are championing array for england over...was done by dubious circumstances

If you don't have a memory going back farther than 2001, then yes, the pendulum swings back and forth.

I'm well aware pompey fans like to dress up and look stupid...I just wondered why they used those two pictures in the article and not, for example, the bottom picture in your selection?

Well a reason for not using one of Gemmel's pics is that the second one features 4 people in Crystal Palace training kit...

Can't quite believe the utterly vapid nature of that article. "Can you write something quick, sh11t and pointless with absolutely nothing of interest in it about Southampton and Portsmouth?" "Yes boss."

Doesn't a pendulum normally swing on a regular basis? I think that Mr Husband didn't want to offend anyone (i.e. pompey fans) with this article, hence it was pretty dull and pointless.

I notice he mentioned building blocks but didn't mention Saints average crowds in League 1...

This. What in incompetent article that really is. It SEEMS like it's praising Saints, but actually it reads to me like the guy is trying to compare Pimpley with Saints - well that's not only absurd - it's a ******* disgrace!!! They cheated their way to short-term success, robbing charities, their fans, other teams etc etc. on the way. Saints did what? Invested in infrastructure and then underinvested in the 1st team - completely different! Makes me blood boil. ):

It's articles like this that the UK football fans read and think "Oh, poor Pompey" - completely oblivious to the reality of the cheating, stealing and robbing that has been evident over the last few years.

The reality is that nobody cares except us....and HMRC ...and the creditors....and the 60% of clubs that have gone into admin....on second thoughts, crap article.
