Local and mayoral elections

I'd agree with this. I listen or watch a lot of political stuff, and it is so amazingly frustrating to hear one side of the argument repeated ad nauseam, even when Humphries or the like have repeatedly pulled them up on it. They're all as guilty at it as each other. The anchors are wise to it, the public are wise to it and I suspect we're all sick of hearing florid responses which fill air time yet say nothing.

This is why Boris is so popular and is being touted as a possible PM. I would vote for Boris - not because I share all of his political views, but because he actually seems real. All the blunders and gaffes actually make him more endearing and authentic. After all, isn't occassionally making an arse of yourself an essential part of being a Brit?

Exactly. To my mind, he is one of the only real politicians who is part of a mainstream party and he is very clear on what he stands for. His authenticity is one of his most appealing assets.

Oh, he says what he likes. But my point is the fool act is very valuable for him in gaining votes from elsewhere than the traditional base that he would normally get. I for example know people who have voted Boris today, and Labour everywhere else just because they think Boris is a laugh/funny, and nothing to do with policy.

Much of modern politics is about personality. Besides, if his policies were genuinely shocking then he wouldn't have won (if he has won) no matter what he was like.

Funny isn't it, in some countries people will queue for hours and risk their lives to vote. Here we are all sick to th back teeth of them and disillusioned with them all most of us can't be arsed to walk 5 minutes down the road.

So cute

This forum has history in bringing people together

A few years back on S4E, a female poster called slipped halo set me up with a work friend when I came home on leave. She was so nice (this friend) she even wanted my mate to share the love she had to give

@RobHarris: Boris Johnson quips "may the 4th be with you" ... Just seconds into may 5

So should that be "may the 5ith be with you?". Told you those Tories were nasty, trousers!

So in conclusion, good day for Boris Johnson and Ed Miliband.

Bad day for Ken Livingston and David Cameron.

BNP didn't do very well at all. Nick Griffin's Question Time appearance still doing the biz!

He was embarassingly bad. But at the same time it wasn't actually a debate was it, it was a hour or whatever of the whole audience and panel having a go at him.

Depends if you're looking short term or long term.

I would venture that the Tories will be privately happy with a few token Ed Miliband victories along the way as it increases the chances of him still being Labour leader cometh the general election in 2015.

The worst case scenario for Cameron is for Miliband to do badly in these mid-term elections thus paving the way for a triumphal return to the helm of David Miliband.

That said, I'm hoping that Miliband wins the next election to pave the way for Boris in 2020! :-)
