Miltonaggro Posted 3 May, 2012 Posted 3 May, 2012 Good work S-A, an interesting read. We are indeed rabid...
manji Posted 3 May, 2012 Posted 3 May, 2012 We are more rabid than Brazilian fans. I wonder if the felt hats and face paint will undermine that reputation ?
doddisalegend Posted 3 May, 2012 Posted 3 May, 2012 quite hard to read but got the idea ....he is happy and we're a great fans
saintscottofthenortham Posted 3 May, 2012 Posted 3 May, 2012 What a really good read. I suddenly like Guly (a little bit).
Lallana's Left Peg Posted 3 May, 2012 Posted 3 May, 2012 William Raymundo del Prado, known as the Land of Queen Guly
austsaint Posted 3 May, 2012 Posted 3 May, 2012 Good man; good player. Played a blinder on Saturday and NC and NA seem to love him. He'll get his chance in the Prem.
Fozzybear Posted 3 May, 2012 Posted 3 May, 2012 "Remind the party". Love it! Straight out of the Fast Show, 'heth theth theth theth, queth theth theth theth, Chris Waddle'.
mikee Posted 3 May, 2012 Posted 3 May, 2012 Good article and I am expecting Guly to be more of an attacking midfielder next season. It is his preferred position and he showed on the last game how motivated he is to play there.
dubai_phil Posted 3 May, 2012 Posted 3 May, 2012 I've spent the morning up to my neck in Legal Papers, documents and contracts. Thank fook for that interview, it was Sooooooooooooo much clearer.
syd_barrett_saint Posted 3 May, 2012 Posted 3 May, 2012 In addition to thinking that the fans love him (he obviously doesn't read this board, thankfully), he also thinks that we were Champions last year, always had 30,000 crowds in league 1, AND that when we play away we always have more fans than the home team. Still, nice interview all the same.
jonjapan Posted 3 May, 2012 Posted 3 May, 2012 What a positive attitude! Thanks to his Serie A time in Italy etc is Guly our player with the most top major league experience?
ericb Posted 3 May, 2012 Posted 3 May, 2012 That article is good read and it's nice to see our player talk of the access. Nice to see he has club in heart and journeys to bridge with fans he love.
doddisalegend Posted 3 May, 2012 Posted 3 May, 2012 What a positive attitude! Thanks to his Serie A time in Italy etc is Guly our player with the most top major league experience? I didn't think Guly actually got to play in Serie A? I thought he helped to get his last team promoted to Serie A and then they got rid of him to us before he ever got the chance to play in the top flight.
Saint_clark Posted 3 May, 2012 Posted 3 May, 2012 In addition to thinking that the fans love him (he obviously doesn't read this board, thankfully), he also thinks that we were Champions last year, always had 30,000 crowds in league 1, AND that when we play away we always have more fans than the home team. syd_barrett_saint Posted 3 May, 2012 Posted 3 May, 2012 I'd wager all of those are down to mistranslations. Nope, I read the original in Portuguese :-) (spent 6 months living in Brazil)
ericb Posted 3 May, 2012 Posted 3 May, 2012 I'd wager all of those are down to mistranslations. Not quite, the champions bit was a mistranslation but he did say we always sold out 30,000. The bit about loving him is less clear as he says that we like him a lot here (which to be fair a lot do) but that he's to humble to answer the question properly and he's not the king of the team. He also says he's happy that we respect him enough to allow him a private life but still know his name
egg Posted 3 May, 2012 Posted 3 May, 2012 He's a good player and his heart is in it. Many people judge a player by his work rate. If that was the correct way then chicken George was twice the player mlt was. Guly has played within himself whilst with us and consequently looks lazy and disinterested at times. In contrast chaplow runs around like a blue arsed fly but he's an inferior footballer. I'm sure Guly will excel in the prem.
shurlock Posted 3 May, 2012 Posted 3 May, 2012 Guly has an amazing work rate when he tracks back - its no surprise that NA threw him on at the siege of Elland Road notwithstanding an injury to provide a bit more cover and graft. The impression of laziness stems more from the fact that he tends to hold his run or check back when attacking.
scotty Posted 3 May, 2012 Posted 3 May, 2012 I've spent the morning up to my neck in Legal Papers, documents and contracts.. Just pay her off phil, it'll be easier in the long run
egg Posted 3 May, 2012 Posted 3 May, 2012 Just pay her off phil, it'll be easier in the long run Ignore him, keep feeding the lawyers
Kingsland Nick Posted 3 May, 2012 Posted 3 May, 2012 I didn't think Guly actually got to play in Serie A? He was too busy running Italian soccer
syd_barrett_saint Posted 4 May, 2012 Posted 4 May, 2012 Not quite, the champions bit was a mistranslation but he did say we always sold out 30,000. The bit about loving him is less clear as he says that we like him a lot here (which to be fair a lot do) but that he's to humble to answer the question properly and he's not the king of the team. He also says he's happy that we respect him enough to allow him a private life but still know his name The champions bit was not a mistranslation, unless my Portuguese is failing me. He said: "quando subimos (de divisão) e fomos campeões" Which means "when we went up a division and were champions". I think Billy Sharp also made the same error, but then he wasn't here for that season. You are right though, he does say that we like him a lot, not love. He continues to say that we appreciate him, which in general, I think most fans that I speak to don't, unfortunately.
adrian lord Posted 4 May, 2012 Posted 4 May, 2012 Guly has a laconic style on the pitch that hides a cultured, skilful player, who uses his brain to deploy effort efficiently. I remember away at Coventry when we won 4-2, he was instrumental and crucial to the win, but in a subtle manner. Trouble is, UK crowds just want to see players charge around the pitch all afternoon at full pelt..because it shows "passion" and "playing for the shirt" and ****e like that.

toofarnorth Posted 4 May, 2012 Posted 4 May, 2012 If he can become more consistent he can play a big part next season. The goal compilation showed how well he started the season.
kelkel31 Posted 4 May, 2012 Posted 4 May, 2012 i dont know any portuguese so cant comment on translation but anybody who has seen enough games at st marys will know that gulys name is one of the most frequently sung names so this forums contempt for him is probably not a good representation of the fan base as a hole on this matter
doddisalegend Posted 4 May, 2012 Posted 4 May, 2012 bloody good player and a top guy imho Your constant man-love for Guly is cringeworthy...he is not fit to make Nigels tea FFS* *not really
Lazlo78 Posted 4 May, 2012 Posted 4 May, 2012 "Also, did 11 goals this season, some in important games, and cover several positions on the field when the coach needed." True that! He has been used at right midfield, forward and in the tip of the diamond midfield. Always great to have versatile players in the squad even though their problem often is that they are up against specialists for every position in the lineup. He'll have a part to play in the PL. Good man, Guly!
