lordswoodsaints Posted 2 May, 2012 Posted 2 May, 2012 Will we finally see the £4m signing on fee paid for delap finally be surpassed now that we are back in the premier league?
Armchair Posted 2 May, 2012 Posted 2 May, 2012 I bloody hope so!! Delap was utter garbage and I still find it cringeworthy that he is still our record buy. I think we will only break the 4 million barrier once this summer though.
sambosa75 Posted 2 May, 2012 Posted 2 May, 2012 Yes, without a doubt. Not by much and perhaps only once but I am confident we will. Gary Hooper could still be the one. I am of the thinking we still need one more forward.
saint_jas Posted 2 May, 2012 Posted 2 May, 2012 Would hope so but better quality. Although still one of the best overhead kicks....
Bearsy Posted 2 May, 2012 Posted 2 May, 2012 That was such a long time ago you've got to factor in the inflations! I bought a double decker chocolate bar today and it was like 45p or something. Now I can't remember when Delap signed or how much double deckers were at the time but let's say they were probably about 30p. I'm no mathematician but by my calculations that means the transfer record is actually £4m plus 15 pence (i.e. original transfer fee plus the cost difference Double Decker 2012 less Double Decker 2002 or whatever).
Miltonaggro Posted 2 May, 2012 Posted 2 May, 2012 We will resign him for £5 million and Tommy SP Forecast...
Give it to Ron Posted 2 May, 2012 Posted 2 May, 2012 I was listening to Durham on the way home last night and he couldnt believe Stoke had given hom another year on his contract. He has had a bad season.
doddisalegend Posted 2 May, 2012 Posted 2 May, 2012 I Imagine so inflation means even average PL players are going for 4-5 million these days.
Leicestersaint Posted 2 May, 2012 Posted 2 May, 2012 I thought Delap was OK - but it was a long time ago now.
opthomps Posted 2 May, 2012 Posted 2 May, 2012 I was listening to Durham on the way home last night and he couldnt believe Stoke had given hom another year on his contract. He has had a bad season. Considering he wants regular football so am I. Imagine he will go out on loan if a decent offer comes along. He wasn't as bad for us as some make out, but yeah, he isn't a worldbeater.
Chez Posted 2 May, 2012 Posted 2 May, 2012 Decrap looked like an inspired signing at the time, but it turned out that he preferred to hoof it over his shoulder rather than be brave, control the ball and pass it deliberately to a Saint. Took the easy way out time after time, as Wotton did several years later.
sandwichsaint Posted 2 May, 2012 Posted 2 May, 2012 I'm not sure Wotton took 'the easy way out'? His first touch and his positional play were so poor he often took the only way out! He was a player of his times, Lge one and his legs had gone, right signing, wrong player! I loved his commitment (Southend away, Watford away, JPT final etc), I enjoyed the journey, I'm sure he did too, I wonder if he still worries about us as much as we still worry about him?
Chez Posted 2 May, 2012 Posted 2 May, 2012 I'm not sure Wotton took 'the easy way out'? His first touch and his positional play were so poor he often took the only way out! never thought of it like that, brilliant.
sussexsaint Posted 2 May, 2012 Posted 2 May, 2012 I predict we will make several significant and surprising signings, as said 'undisclosed' , but we are back, and as Cortese has already said as we are ahead of schedule re the 5 year plan the funds will be avaliable. If rumours were to be believed if hooper had come in January that would have smashed the Delap record ' sometimes he's good , usually cr*p'
