Now we are a premiership team could Ricky or Lallana get an England call-up?

With Rooney guaranteed to miss out on Englands initial matches could the new England boss be tempted to take a 'punt' on Ricky? Lallana has also impressed at Championship level but is less likely to be given an opportunity due to age and experience of others that may get the nod ahead of him.

Lambert needs looking at due to the shower of ****e we have available.

Then again I'd say he's good enough for Barcelona = sentimental biasness (if it's a word!)

Posted

No chance....even if they finished top joint scorers in the PL next season they wouldn't be fashionable enough for the Press/FA/England fans to get a call up.

Plus I rather they spent their efforts on saints....how f ucked off would we be If Rickie ,by some miracle, was called up for England friendly and then got injuried?

done to death, and the answer is you newer know, but probably no.

How can this have been done to death? Saints only got back in to the Premiership On Saturday! Also Hodgson only got appointed yesterday

how many prem games have they played so far?

I'd love to see them play for England but the thought of Rickie and Lallana surrounded by those pr1cks turn me completely off the idea, selfish I know but part of me wants them to stay away from the squad until the "golden generation" are finally ousted

If Holt, Graham, Pilkington and Bennet haven't got calls up - after their decent seasons, then Lambert and Lallana will need to rip up the league to stand a chance.

Posted
Lambert said on Twitter recently that he is "not allowed" to play for England due to the fact that he hasn't been registered in the national pool.

He's not on twitter, that's a spoof account.

Lambert is 30 and hasn't kicked a ball in the top flight. He's in the situation that Grant Holt was in at the beginning of this season. If Holt doesn't get a (deserved imo} call up, then I don't hold out much hope for Lambert. I think he is good enough, but I doubt Woy would want to compound the grief he's already getting from the media by taking someone who most would consider a risk. Unless he has a really thick skin and intends to stick two fingers up to them.

We are not a Premiership team, we are a Premier League team. The competition changed its name in 2007, so that's only FIVE YEARS AGO.

Both easily good enough IMO. But we are Southampton, we will have to wait until they've banged about 20 goals in each next year before they get a chance at England B level.

just listen to the radio this morning..

hyping up jermaine defoe for england..and when Holt got mentioned (the 2nd highest english scorer behind rooney)....it was like...err, well he has done well to adjust to the prem but this is too soon

Jay Bothroyd was 'good enough'.

Andy Carroll, Kevin Davies, Bobby Zamora, Jay Bothroyd, David Nugent, Carlton Cole, Fraizer Campbell and Emile Heskey have alll had England caps - Hardly the pinnacle of English players. The problem is that unfashionable players either aren't given enough opportunity to impress or aren't called back if they do impress. Bothroyd only got a 10 minute cameo. No big loss as he's **** anyway, but people wouldn't be too happy if he was good. Kevin Davies did enough imo to get a second call, but never did.

Fair enough be pedantic, but everyone understood what BristolSaint meant so it's your own time your wasting.

Personally I am celebrating our recent promotion from the second division - and I don't give a flyigg fudge what you fink!.

It would be interesting that for everyone who said "no, he isn't good enough" which four strikers they would want to see playing in the Euro's (in addition to Rooney) and then thinking about whether those four strikers are actually better than Lambert, or offer anything different.

England managers in recent years have had a good knack of picking players regardless of their current form based ,it would seem, purely on their name and which club they play for. As much as we all love Rickie he has never kicked a ball in the PL the number of players called up to play for England in a major tournement from outside the top division must be a very small and exclusive club.

Posted
Hodgson tried to take Adam to Fulham ar one time didn't he? Think he's a fan.

Most managers are a fan of Adam, Wolves wanted him more than most though.

It probably comes as no suprise to you, but I was told that our most saught after player is Morgan.

Posted

we probably only need to take 4 out right strikers as hopefully we will play 433 with young and walcott/or oxo either side of the striker.

I would take Rooney, Crouch, Defoe, and Bent if fit, if not Carroll.

Correct but he's been in some French papers today (or yesterday) saying he has no reason to leave and no wish to either.

It's in French but here's the link anyway:

don't u know the rules fir national selection?

u get called up as a promising youngster, then cement ur place in the squad with some average performances and never fulfill your true potential. if u don't fall into this category u play a handful of games, play better than the rest if the team and lose ur place when the former group regain natch fitness.

Lambert won't ever play for England, lallana will only play a 7 times despite getting 4 goals and 2 MoM awards

Adam has an outside chance if he has a couple of good seasons in the Premier League, but as good as we think he is, I think a pacy winger would be chosen before him. Someone like Moses or Zaha. (Edit: Just remember Moses switched allegiance to Nigeria...)

Having players in the England squad has been a curse, look what it did for MLT, Armstrong and BT. They were never quite the same afterwards

Yes we've been here before... BUT I think Capello (like Eriksson before him) " inherited " a squad... from the FA and the football media.**

Eriksson tried a number of fringe players in an effort to get a squad together, hence most of his "defeats " were friendlies when he tried 18 or more players per game.

Roy H. has managed a number of " fairly ordinary Prem. sides" quite well ..all things considered - and I count Liverpool in that comment during his time there.

I get the feeling that calm, quiet Roy, is not the sort of manager to be dictated to and having got the job...he will be his own man.

He may have a different opinion than the above** and I wouldn't be surprised to see a few " surprise names" pop up.

and I do think that Hodgson must be aware of their existance, and their potential.

With Rooney out for the first 2 games. Bent still injured ANY forward line looks a bit thin on paper.Defoe (maybe).Crouch(possibly)but who else?

It wouldn't surprise me to see Lambert - on the bench at least - and then... who knows ..?

Much as I appreciate Lallana as a midfielder, I think he'd be last on any short list of MF players. (at present)

no thanks to the people who were managing England at the time.

quite right The 9, but to be pedantic (!) ..we are not even a Premier League club YET...

we are a Championship side that has qualified (by promotion) to play there next season.

However, like others on here, I also get stuck on calling "it" - the Premiership sometimes, as that's what it was known as the last time we played there.

Anyway, its too long to type every time. I've used the " Prem." for some time now.

Liked this bit: « Le président nous a affirmé que nous ne jouerons pas le maintien la saison prochaine. Il va investir pour nous permettre d’intégrer le Top 10. On le croit sur parole. »

Good article (haven't read the second yet) and a good photo showing how he plays with his head up - something we get shouted at in training too! Notice how they comment on the size of the crowd and the reaction in the city and Morgan's smile...

Theo Walcott got selected to play for England before he'd kicked a ball in the Premier League. Just saying.

Thanks to the Sun..or was it the People or the News of the Screws.

Sven was such a knob,News of the Screws probably had the drop on him :scared::scared:

Can't Lambo just be in the squad for his penalty taking abilities. He might not be good enough to play on the field but could stop England going out again on pens. Never understood why le tiss wasn't taken to cup comps for this reason.

Posted
Still I'd expect they themselves would prefer that they did..go that is.

No doubt, but with our team this year at least they'd only be away for a short time !

Posted

While I agree that it'll likely never happen, I don't think Rickie for England is mental. His stats have been off the charts this year, the best player in the Football League. He has scored and created goals consistently through the season. Last year, we were all wondering if he'd even make the grade in the Championship. No one is in any doubt now.

Ok, he hasn't played at Premier League or international level, but he's fitter than ever, in the best form of his life and seems incapable of missing penalty kicks. Gamble? Defo. Mental? Possibly, but I'd back Rickie to continue what he's been doing - exceed everyone's expectations by a country mile.

Posted
Are you mental? They won't even be in the GB squad.

And yet England seem to be desperate to get Darren Bent fit for the Euro .Bloke hasn't kicked a ball for months, still recovering form ankle ligament surgery and yet he seems to think that he still has a chance of selection, we (England that is) must be desperate then.

Posted

which bit? the only never in there is the full potential bit ;-), so name one recent England player who has been consistently as good or better than his club performance?

but as much as I want it to happen, I honestly don't think Lambert will get a call up. if Holt hasn't managed it I can't see it happening, but then again I have faith in hodgson. well, untill I see his first squad selection and team sheet. if Holt gets in the euro squad, maybe Lambert might sneak a game, but wots the point in giving someone a run out in a qualifier if they aren't realistically going to play a role in the finals. Lambert will be 32 by then.

so, never... but I'll be happy to be proved wrong.

Precisely. Lambo is "Saints fit" :)
