BlakeySFC Posted 1 May, 2012 Posted 1 May, 2012 It seems like a new symbol of Premier League wealth to have the electronic advetising boards at your stadium. QPR, Swansea and Norwich all installed them in time for the start of the PL season...so will we install them too? Does anybody care either way? I personally feel if we don't install them then SMS could feel a bit dated to the new PL Sky audience.

I have always thought that they were supplied by the advertising company and not the club. I hate the things, even though my business is based on something similar.
westofshannonsaint Posted 1 May, 2012 Posted 1 May, 2012 it maximises revenue, I would be very supprised if we dont put them in. as a sky/tv viewer i find them annoying.
Red And White Barmy Army Posted 1 May, 2012 Posted 1 May, 2012 We used to get them put up for televised matches only. Not sure if they are still doing this which is why it looks like everyone has got them, or if everyone has actually got them permanently now. But I agree, it does modernise the stadium's look a little bit.
Turkish Posted 1 May, 2012 Posted 1 May, 2012 Along with the bar code scanners this will send out a message to the rest of the premier league we mean business. I'm all for it.
Hatch Posted 2 May, 2012 Posted 2 May, 2012 I love watching Lallana charging down the wing being overtaken by a Toyota Yaris
SNSUN Posted 2 May, 2012 Posted 2 May, 2012 I wonder if we get them, whether advertising would have an effect on our chants? "He plays on the right, he plays on the left, Adam Lallana thinks Pepsi tastes best."
Amazingstoke Saint Posted 2 May, 2012 Posted 2 May, 2012 I'm currently travelling in the US and Canada and whilst staying with friends have been grateful for their sports channels as every Premier league game is shown live as well as many of the Championship games. When I've been stuck in a motel, I've been glad of firstrowsports.eu that has carried many games. It's the TV advertising that drives it - but the only Yaris' in California have a boot! A 12:30 kick off when you're 8 hours behind is a killer! But the reward.... COYR

dune Posted 2 May, 2012 Posted 2 May, 2012 Once those boards are installed we'll all know that we are back.
paris Posted 2 May, 2012 Posted 2 May, 2012 Any other changes coming for the stadium apert from the ticket system ? , someone mentioned the stadium seats ..
sandwichsaint Posted 2 May, 2012 Posted 2 May, 2012 A steward told me we were going to have 'greener grass' next season, and he's been right more often than some on here.
Shroppie Posted 2 May, 2012 Posted 2 May, 2012 I don't see them as a status symbol. They're a bloody nuisance. Agreed. They make my eyes go funny. Please no.
Thedelldays Posted 2 May, 2012 Posted 2 May, 2012 what about the car bucket leather type seats in the dugout..?
Patrick Bateman Posted 2 May, 2012 Posted 2 May, 2012 The fact this question has even been asked shows what football has become. Sadly.
Whitey Grandad Posted 2 May, 2012 Posted 2 May, 2012 I love watching Lallana charging down the wing being overtaken by a Toyota Yaris Rather a Yaris than a snail on a cold day.
The9 Posted 2 May, 2012 Posted 2 May, 2012 They come free with the heated leather dugout seats. QPR only have them for the home team, bunch of JCLs.
lizardking365 Posted 2 May, 2012 Posted 2 May, 2012 I'm sure it is mandatory now in the pl I'm 99% sure this is true
Flyer Posted 2 May, 2012 Posted 2 May, 2012 It's the law in the Prem. So is having undersoil heating, will that have to be installed at a huge expense or will Saints be denied entry to the PL?
Mattio Posted 2 May, 2012 Posted 2 May, 2012 So is having undersoil heating, will that have to be installed at a huge expense or will Saints be denied entry to the PL?We have it... on half the pitch. Looks like we'll be in the 5 a side leagues instead...
BlakeySFC Posted 3 May, 2012 Author Posted 3 May, 2012 I've done a tiny bit of self-research and found that every PL club does indeed have the electronic advertising boards. Some have them on just one side of the stadium that the camera sees, but most have them around 3/4 or all of the stadium. Also, I've looked through the PL handbook for last season and I can't see any precise rules that say you have to put the electronic advertising boards up for TV audiences, or that they'll be erected by Sky for their live TV matches. So presumably, every PL club or their sponsors just like them to have them up? Would think it was very likely Nicola would install these as they provide incredible revenue for the club from sponsors. Just 1 minute of advertising costs on average £3,500-£6,000 during a live PL match.
rooney Posted 3 May, 2012 Posted 3 May, 2012 We may have hot water for the wash basins in the toilets now that we are in the Prem?
Whitey Grandad Posted 3 May, 2012 Posted 3 May, 2012 We may have hot water for the wash basins in the toilets now that we are in the Prem? And enough paper towels to last until half time? Can we afford all this???
This Charming Man Posted 3 May, 2012 Posted 3 May, 2012 Will they be advertising 'Southampton FC Soccer Schools in China'? You can't say we've made it until we've achieved that.
Thedelldays Posted 3 May, 2012 Posted 3 May, 2012 Will they be advertising 'Southampton FC Soccer Schools in China'? You can't say we've made it until we've achieved that. or....an advert pops up that is actually written in chinese
Flyer Posted 3 May, 2012 Posted 3 May, 2012 We have it... on half the pitch. Looks like we'll be in the 5 a side leagues instead... Obviously I was joking as theres no way that would happen, Im sure they would be given a year to get it working. As for the boards, I think they have to cover at least 3 sides and I think it is a rule as all 3 promoted clubs got them this season. Loftus Road was already tight but now theres about 1m from the touchline to the boards now.
This Charming Man Posted 3 May, 2012 Posted 3 May, 2012 So is having undersoil heating, will that have to be installed at a huge expense or will Saints be denied entry to the PL? Everything needed is underneath the pitch and ready to go, it just needs to be connected up and we're good to go. Though when your stadium is in Costa Del Southampton, it's not needed.

Though when your stadium is in Costa Del Southampton, it's not needed. I thought they only installed some ducts under the pitch and the works to complete it is actually quite costly and not just a case of connecting up! Anyone know how many games have been called off at St Marys due to a frozen pitch?

Whitey Grandad Posted 3 May, 2012 Posted 3 May, 2012 None. Didn't we have a waterlogged one, or is my memory playing up?
Lets B Avenue Posted 3 May, 2012 Posted 3 May, 2012 Didn't we have a waterlogged one, or is my memory playing up? Yes. Palace in Nov 06, an evening game when the heavens oponed up at about 4 pm and it was called off at 6pm. Cant blame the lack of undersoil heating on that one.
