I saw the shirt for the first time last night, a bloke in the pub was wearing it. I still think its very meh, but the quality of it seems pretty poor as well. The logo looks as awful as I thought it would, but the pinstripes don't join up properly at the back. The seam is at shoulder level, the pinstripes angle inwards from the top but bear no relationship to the pinstripes on the back.

In short, it looks cheaper and more naff than I first thought.

But the OS says its on course to set records for level of sales......

Katalinic will know as he was ITK about the shirts in the first place.

I quite like the shirt but share your views on the quality. Check out the picture of the training top on billy sharps twitter account- the logo looks soooo much better on those tops.

I was looking through the team photos from previous years on here http://www.saintsweb.co.uk/showthread.php?38841-Saints-Team-Photos and it has confirmed, to me at least, that we really look best in plain red and white stripes, without any embellishments. (see 1970-71 season http://www.teammead.co.uk/saintsfc/1970.htm) It's a strong identity and against it this new one looks dull and uninspiring.

I hope this is a one season wonder and we can get back to being us next year.

Is it going to be a new strip every season from now on?

I expect so. It's pretty much standard practice these days for many teams. When was the last time we had a two season kit? It's a few years ago now.

Received my shirt in the post this morning. I would have preferred traditional strips but looks much better in hand that it does in photos.

Gets a thumbs up from me.

I've not really had a strong opinion on the new kit up til now but I took my 12 year old lad down to St. Mary's to buy him the new shirt yesterday and he's chuffed to bits with it. I think it looks great (both on display in the revamped megastore and when worn).

At no point did my son say: "this is great dad but I wish it was 'proper' red and white stripes". I guess his cynic gene doesn't start developing for a few years yet.... (at which point I'll obviously get him to join the forum)

I'm still in the much frowned upon "it's only a kit FFS" brigade but I'm happy we've gone for something different (from a Saints perspective) this year. It just feels 'right' somehow. (a new beginning in the Premier League and all that philosophical malarkey)

Contrast the innocent exuberance of my son to the grumpy old sod in the queue in front of us as he said to the cashier: "hmmpf....not enough white...grumble...not happy..." as he handed over his £42 quid...I'm sure there's a Carlsberg phrase that covers borderline irony.... ;-)

Now I know where SW11 Saint was yesterday. (Morning, Dan.)

I've been buying the home shirt every season for the last 12 years. I went to the store yesterday to get the new one, tried it on but had to walk away. I just don't like it and I'm not willing to pay £40 odd quid for it.

People will know us by the home kit so I'd prefer to wear one that people will recognise but the away kit is nicer and more like a home kit.

I've still not decided what to buy...

Same with me. I might get the away kit instead.

I'm not usually one of those who tells people what to do or whatever, but that seems very odd to me.

Proper job:)

Well proud of my top and will wear it with pride on Saturday:p

Happy to go back to stripes whenever and until then.....this old boy will be wearing his shirt to all games..

The daughter is getting the away shirt on Saturday , so we will be red and white stripes when sitting together at St Marys..

Im the same, arguably the home kit is not as recognisable this year, the away one looks more like our 'normal' type of kit, plus i think it looks better.

Yep the away kit should really be our home kit tbf

Just seen a advert on the side of a bus stop thought bit strange (by central train station just opposite subway), it was picture of red & white Saints shirt with premiership badge with something like 'together we stand' (although wasn't those words can't remember what exactly).

Just thought odd they had a picture of a red & white strip instead of the new one with premiership badge.

That's the Barclays "welcome back" ad they brought out once we won promotion

I would never be seen dead in a football shirt tbh (unless I was playing football), not even at a saints match. But my son won't wear anything else. He loves it, so that's good enough for me.

Its unique and it has an 80s feel. The 80s is cool again atm

@officialsaints: Both teams now out on the pitch. #SaintsFC are in yellow and blue, while the home side are in red-and-white shirts with black shorts.

Well, that answers the '3rd kit' question then....or does it...?

Away kit hasn't been formally launched yet, so probably holding it back for that.

Although it is a little tip that the club are holding onto the third strip and not binning it all just yet.

Edit: What he said above.....

The kits for my kids finally arrived this afternoon with my aunt.

My reaction ? Didnt think the quality was too bad, tbh, maybe the shirt is a bit thin (except the part with the sponsor logo, which rivals the belt armour on the battleship HMS King George V for its thickness). Still very "meh" over the scheme though.

A bit p*ssed of with the name/number printing though. There are no "." between the first name initials and the surnames. Is this the way its done now ?

Couldnt think of another surname with a "." In but A.Cole does have a "." In it

Got one for my son who is six on saturday - it arrived yesterday and looked fine - I then turned it over and noticed the 6 on the back was actually an upside down 9!! No difference you cry apart from the lion being on his head...anyway i phoned and hassled them saying this is crap - i have 2 days to get my sons present changed - fair play they shipped a new one yesterday and it arrived this morning in good time, even without me returning the faulty one -which is being posted today...

I know they get loads of crap and screwed up in the first place, but they sorted this in under 24hrs and all is well, so fair play to the megastore.....

You should have kept the other one.

Well said , maybe they do nappies in traditional stripes? alls not lost for some.

You have to understand that tradition means a lot to many supporters. Just because you're not bothered what colour Saints play in doesn't mean that others share the same view. It's your club colours that mark your identity.

Over 50% of fans don't like the new kit. That's a big number! You're making it sound like anybody who has complained about the new kit is acting like a big baby. That's not the case. People are just voicing their opinion. My personal view is that it's just a marketing scam. Another signal that the people in charge don't really give a toss what the fans think. If people don't like it they should show the club by refusing to buy it. Financial impact seems to be the only way to make people sit up and listen these days.

Got mine for my birthday today. Not bad. Didn't realise the small white stripes actually consist of a grey one and a white one.

Should have read the 5 or 6 times it was already mentioned in this thread then - including a month before the kit was actually revealed.
