saint lard Posted 29 June, 2012 Posted 29 June, 2012 Really quite like both. will prob go for the home one. simple, classy and just enough to be a different saints shirt.
manji Posted 29 June, 2012 Posted 29 June, 2012 Like them both. Not that I will buying either never wear replica kits. Plus its far from true we have always worn stripes.
CanadaSaint Posted 29 June, 2012 Posted 29 June, 2012 Given the vast array of red and white striped shirts from different eras worn by the fans, it makes big commercial sense because it outdates all of them. However, it's a massive "f*ck you" to the club's tradition.
Crazy Diamond Posted 29 June, 2012 Posted 29 June, 2012 people saying "its not a southampton kit" eeer, it is now The wish is the father of the thought on this occasion...
saintmatt Posted 29 June, 2012 Posted 29 June, 2012 For what it's worth I think its smart. What I don't get is what we'll wear away to Sunderland or Stoke? Third kit maybe?
Colinjb Posted 29 June, 2012 Posted 29 June, 2012 people saying "its not a southampton kit" eeer, it is now Thank f**k it's just for one season.
niceandfriendly Posted 29 June, 2012 Posted 29 June, 2012 blimey they're bloody beautiful. want them both. away kit especially.goo d question about what we'll wear to stoke and sunderland? 3rd kit on the way?
doubleonothing Posted 29 June, 2012 Posted 29 June, 2012 Jordan Sibley @jordansibley You can take a closer behind the scenes look at the new home and away kits on Saints Player now. #saintsfc #redandwhitearmy
wireframebox Posted 29 June, 2012 Posted 29 June, 2012 Pleasantly surprised by how much I like this kit. Has an air of freshness and class about it. It's by no means a traditional Saints kit, but I think that reflects the recent changes (for the better) in the club.

It's by no means a traditional Saints kit, but I think that reflects the recent changes (for the better) in the club. What do you mean changes for the better? We've changed the colours we play in. That isn't a Southampton kit.
Saint Billy Posted 29 June, 2012 Posted 29 June, 2012 I love both tbh, I have never really liked the stripes and I bet a bit of psychology is involved in the choice. Brave choice by NC and gang as it is bound to upset many traditionalists but it pleases me if knowone else.
trousers Posted 29 June, 2012 Posted 29 June, 2012 No shot of the back of the shirt in the Saints Player video....this is as close as we get to a rear shot....(oo-er missus)
CWD Posted 29 June, 2012 Posted 29 June, 2012 What do you mean changes for the better? We've changed the colours we play in. That isn't a Southampton kit. No we haven't, its still red and white. Just has less white on it this season.
The9 Posted 29 June, 2012 Posted 29 June, 2012 I've just seen it. And The9 ITKness is completely wrong! Or not. But who looks like a complete bell-end now, all of 20 minutes later ?
ponto1963 Posted 29 June, 2012 Posted 29 June, 2012 Well that saves price of 3 kits for this year. HATE the strip we are red AND white not red!!!!!
doggface Posted 29 June, 2012 Posted 29 June, 2012 @the 9 - yes the home strip has one grey and one white pinstripe
Saint J 77 Posted 29 June, 2012 Posted 29 June, 2012 Well at least the picture demonstrates that there's nothing wrong with Tadanari Lee's leg! Looks good in this shot for some reason
The9 Posted 29 June, 2012 Posted 29 June, 2012 No shot of the back of the shirt in the Saints Player video....this is as close as we get to a rear shot....(oo-er missus) The home shirt definitely has pinstripes on the back, dunno about the away.
Matthew Le God Posted 29 June, 2012 Posted 29 June, 2012 Have we "done a Cardiff"? Although as we were a red and white team anyway, a change to all red isn't quite as dramatic. Note Japan international Tadanari Lee as the key figure in the home shirt promotional photo...
The9 Posted 29 June, 2012 Posted 29 June, 2012 @the 9 - yes the home strip has one grey and one white pinstripe Cheers, can't tell from anything posted so far.
saintmatt Posted 29 June, 2012 Posted 29 June, 2012 Awful. Worst home kit since Dimplex? first comment I read on Facebook was "best home kit since Dimplex"! I suppose the world would be a boring place if everyone agreed
The9 Posted 29 June, 2012 Posted 29 June, 2012 what colour are the squad numbers on each? Guessing white on the home and... either black or red on the away.
thefuriousb Posted 29 June, 2012 Posted 29 June, 2012 The thing I like least about the home shirt is, once again, the sponsors logo. It looks far better, yet again, on the away kit. I'd like to feel the quality of the shirt first, mind. Without repeating the same point I have already made, last season's away shirt was far and away better all round than the home 'red and white stripes' effort.
The9 Posted 29 June, 2012 Posted 29 June, 2012 first comment I read on Facebook was "best home kit since Dimplex"! I suppose the world would be a boring place if everyone agreed That might have been sarcasm, given how hated the Pony tick kit was.
Avenue Saint Posted 29 June, 2012 Posted 29 June, 2012 Looks quality. Away not so much bothered, but the home one looks very nice.
doubleonothing Posted 29 June, 2012 Posted 29 June, 2012 billy sharp @billysharp10 Yep I was surprised when I saw the home kit was expecting it to just be the normal red and white stripes,I'm sure we will get used to it.
Bearsy Posted 29 June, 2012 Posted 29 June, 2012 I phoned my dad earlier and was telling him and i said yeah the new home kit is red with white stripes and the away kit is white with red stripes. He said shut up James that's about the stupidest thing you ever said! (he calls me James cos dat is my name)
The9 Posted 29 June, 2012 Posted 29 June, 2012 Looks like a standard pub team kit you'd get from a catalogue. Why change the shorts and sock colours? Controversial! I will boycott the Wigan game to show my displeasure. Actually they haven't changed either home or away socks colours from last season. This thread is amusing me now, there's not a single thing been said since the launch that wasn't said before it so far !
The9 Posted 29 June, 2012 Posted 29 June, 2012 An extremely good point. That was also made a month ago when we were just guessing the away kit was white !
Chin Strain Posted 29 June, 2012 Posted 29 June, 2012 Bloody horrible, since when do we play in all red. Really not happy about this, what is wrong with RED & WHITE STRIPES FFS... rubbish rubbish rubbish... if i wanted a Liverpool kit i would support them I hear what you're saying, but you don't really choose the team you support based on the colour of the kit do you. If Saints had been wearing brown when I was growing up, I'd still be a Saints fan. Personally, I like the kits, I'm just not convinced that it's close enough to red and white stripes that we've had for 40 or so years.
rickylambert Posted 29 June, 2012 Posted 29 June, 2012 http://www.saintsfc.co.uk/page/NewsDetail/0,,10280~2827440,00.html Plain,Boring,But not too bad.
lloydie Posted 29 June, 2012 Posted 29 June, 2012 I think the kit looks good, a lot of 'bed wetting' reactions on here as expected. 1.We havent always been red and white stripes for starters (imagine what the uproar was like then when we introduced them without the internets?!) 2. Theres still white stripes on the red kits, therefore its still red and white stripes, just smaller for christ sake.(remember guys, size doesnt matter its what you do with it, or what rickie does while playing in it, that matters!) 3.to the reaction 'its not a saints kit' well seeing as its just been announced as sfc's new kit, kinda invalidates that response. 4. to the reaction of, 'we look like liverpool' id rather have just that one club (or forest) than people come up to me in london asking me if im a stoke, sunderland or even more frequently an exeter fan! Oh and 5... If we do well in it, and get a cup run etc, id imagine a lot of people will change their tune.
Matthew Le God Posted 29 June, 2012 Posted 29 June, 2012 There is a 28 page thread about it here... http://www.saintsweb.co.uk/showthread.php?37736-New-Kit
lloydie Posted 29 June, 2012 Posted 29 June, 2012 Cheers for the heads up! Was totally oblivious that we had a new kit out!
Matthew Le God Posted 29 June, 2012 Posted 29 June, 2012 I hear what you're saying, but you don't really choose the team you support based on the colour of the kit do you. If Saints had been wearing brown when I was growing up, I'd still be a Saints fan. Personally, I like the kits, I'm just not convinced that it's close enough to red and white stripes that we've had for 40 or so years. We didn't have a standard red and white striped kit for the entire 1980's. Which included the most successful period in the clubs league history.
Frank's cousin Posted 29 June, 2012 Posted 29 June, 2012 I phoned my dad earlier and was telling him and i said yeah the new home kit is red with white stripes and the away kit is white with red stripes. He said shut up James that's about the stupidest thing you ever said! (he calls me James cos dat is my name) As we have a thread of grown men being a bit...lets say 'emotional' about the club's new kit, it is good to see the Bear Wit take centre stage and bring some much needed perspective.... so tell us Bearsy what's the craic from the creatures in the woods on this one?
wireframebox Posted 29 June, 2012 Posted 29 June, 2012 Are the people in the back rows just generic faces? If not, who's stood behind Jack Cork and Danny Fox?..
Benali Saint Posted 29 June, 2012 Posted 29 June, 2012 Horrible kitsHome is a Forest cast offAway is similar to an old Skate shirt only red pin stripes instead of blue ones
bowers-sfc Posted 29 June, 2012 Posted 29 June, 2012 Anyone else notice our new signing on the left? our pitch announcer matey steve bennett
The9 Posted 29 June, 2012 Posted 29 June, 2012 I love how every season there are people saying "I've heard the Rank Xerox kit is coming back" bollix!! It'll be red and white stripes, that's what we wear. I've been waiting since May to quote this...
Crazy Diamond Posted 29 June, 2012 Posted 29 June, 2012 We didn't have a standard red and white striped kit for the entire 1980's. Which included the most successful period in the clubs league history. Difference is, some of them were nice.
The9 Posted 29 June, 2012 Posted 29 June, 2012 Horrible kitsHome is a Forest cast offAway is similar to an old Skate shirt only red pin stripes instead of blue ones To be fair, that is at least an original criticism. Congrats. I don't think "white with red pinstripes" is that similar to "white with blue pinstripes", though admittedly it would be a colour clash.
St.Jeweller Posted 29 June, 2012 Posted 29 June, 2012 Is Kelvin wearing skins this season for us then?
